Case 339: Waco (Part 3/3)

The standoff between the FBI and the Branch Davidians held firm for more than a month, with David Koresh and his followers refusing to surrender. RIP to the kids and good riddance to every adult that put them in that situation.

The arrogance of the authorities involved is staggering. I’m not condoning David Koresh or the Branch Davidians, but this could have ended very differently if more competent decision-making had been in charge.

Thank you for such a well-written, in-depth series. You offered me so much more insight into this horrific incident. Once again, Casefilers, well done!

This is probably one of my favorite multi-parters. Cults are so bizarre.

This was an excellent series. Absolutely loved it!

I lived in Lausanne, Switzerland while this was going on and remember it only as a lot of smoke and fire happening in a place that the Swiss news anchors were having trouble pronouncing. Since I was in a little group of foreign students taking French lessons, most kids I knew were from places like Bosnia, Somalia and the DRC (which was still called Zaire back then) which were on fire way more often. I do remember thinking that Janet Reno looked like Egon Spengler from Ghostbusters though.

This is an excellent series. One of the best I think. Thank you for all the detail in covering it!

The narration and content is superb, as always, the background music is intrusive and too loud

I didn't even notice it.

Fun fact, one of the Aussie dudes works at a factory near me. He still believes David is a prophet.

I’m always surprised when “survivors” of these cults are still believers after the fact, like Branch Davidians, Peoples Temple, Heaven’s Gate, etc. Like, maybe cut your losses and join a gym or something. Therapy, knitting, anything.

One of your best series you’ve made

Impressive account of Waco and Branch Dividians tragedy. This is the best one yet. An extremely complex story fairly recounted. Only Casefile could retell this imposing, embarrassing and sad story. Thank you!👏

I have so many thoughts on this one, but spontaneous birth due to trauma has to be one of the worst things a woman could go through. The only times I've heard it was this case and the Dardeen family murders

So awful, I gasped.

More proof that the feds will and can do anything in their power to kill civilians.

I always thought Whacko would have been a better name.

S
Suicide Sauce · April 26, 2026

the place was whacko before the massacre and it continues to be whacko to this very day

Me too. This has been a gripping description and insight into this truly horrific situation. I'm always fascinated by cults and their leaders/philosophy. My father came out of one, was excommunicated at 14yo with nowhere to go. He struggled his whole life with this brutal beginning. J

Could I ask for details about this cult?

B
Bob Trenwith · April 25, 2026

OK - I've definitely got into this one. But I'm really hoping not to get another multi-parter next week.

J

I love and hate the multipartes love how much it goes into it and how much we hear but hate having to wait a whole week
