TIERS CLARIFICATION

Hi everyone,

We wanted to provide a quick clarification regarding tiers and premium content, as there’s been some understandable confusion following recent changes.

For Detective tier members, nothing is changing in terms of the amount of content you receive.

  • In 2025, Detective tier members received 32 brand-new episodes.

  • In 2026, Detective tier members will again receive 32 brand-new episodes.

The only change is to how episodes are labelled.

Previously, some episodes were titled as “Premium Episodes.” These episodes were always released early on Patreon and then later made available on the main feed as numbered Casefile episodes, typically 2 to 4 months afterward. "Premium episodes" were never intended to imply exclusive long-term bonus only content, and we were always transparent about the fact that these "premium" episodes would eventually make their way to the main feed as a numbered episode. But this naming and release structure has caused ongoing confusion both for listeners and for us as well.

To simplify things and make the structure clearer, we’ve decided to remove the “Premium Episode” label entirely.

Going forward:

  • Detective tier members will continue to receive episodes one week early and ad-free.

  • All content remains the same in volume and quality. Only the titles have changed.

  • The only difference is that main feed listeners will now consistently be one week behind, rather than having every fourth episode delayed by several months.

  • The archive series releases are completely separate from all of this and do not count towards the 32 new episodes you will be receiving. They are purely extra content to mark the 10th year of Casefile.

We understand how on the surface it might feel like content has been reduced, but we want to reassure you that you are not receiving fewer episodes. This change is purely about clarity and consistency.

It’s also worth noting that the premium episodes were originally intended to be shorter releases (around 15–30 minute episodes). Very quickly, however, they evolved into full-length Casefile episodes, which further blurred the distinction and added to the confusion.

For these reasons, we’ve decided to retire the “Premium Episode” label entirely and move forward with all episodes released as standard numbered Casefile episodes.

If anyone needs any further clarification, we are happy to answer any questions you have.

Thanks as always for your continued support. We truly appreciate it.

Casefile have you done this yet??

Hi Cristi, yes. This is how eps will be released moving forward, and how this year has started.

Hi, I'm very sorry but I'm still confused about the patron subscription. You recently have been releasing part ones of many older cases. Is it possible for me to access all parts of these cases on the patron level? If so how do I do it or do Ineed to upgrade? I am very technology challenged sadly. I have religiously listened to your content since your inception and have always appreciated your fair, well reseached and well narrated content. Long may you continue. Best regards Frances, Weymouth, UK.

This is hands down the best podcast out there! I will happily continue my subscription even with no perks! Can’t wait for the next season to begin!

I stumbled across Casefile in 2019 when I was looking for more information about "Mr Stinky" who had once resided in the tiny country town I was living in, Yarrawonga. It's been a whirlwind romance ever since. At that time I was very unwell and genuinely Didn't believe I would even be around 7 years later, still listening intently, frothing at the mouth for every new episode. So much has changed since 2019, including y'all, but change is inevitable, without change we cannot grow. Without growth we cannot remain in motion. (Also, please bring back the mental health/suicide warning, your last episode containing it was insanely triggering 😞)

I’m not reading all of that but it doesn’t matter I’ve been here for a while and I’m not going anywhere. Hands down my favorite podcast. I love the consistent quality.

Been here since case 20 and you’ve brought so much enjoyment over the last 10 years. Thankyou Casefile. See you in March

I’m consistently shocked at the negative comments on these posts. I’m a Patreon subscriber and would do it over 1000 times for the amazing show case file puts out. I pay for a story told in a great way without crazy 911 calls or distorted audio, or bizarre commentary from random hosts. Please never change.

I joined as a Patreon, to casefile just as they, went into their last break, this one does seem to be taking forever!!! , joined to support the show, but don’t know of any other true crime podcasts that take such long breaks. 🥲 But really love 💕 the show, and no adds, so for now I will be continuing to support. Role on March 🥳🎉 and keep up the good work ⭐️

Luke J Ellingsen · January 22, 2026

Stayed on a supported you guys during the break. As long as we keep getting these incredible cases ad free I’m in.

M
Madison Watt · January 22, 2026

Honestly I thought it was just about supporting the show and getting the episodes add free? Anything else is a bonus in my opinion, congrats on 10 years guys! You’re unreal 🫶🏼

Danna Stumberg · January 21, 2026

Honestly I am Patreon because of how much I love the show and want to support it. I feel like you're already giving us so much and such a high quality production. Thank you and please continue the amazing work! I'll always be here!

Runningmarbles · January 21, 2026

Thank you Casefile, as your team has said before no true crime story should be locked away behind a paywall. Love listening and supporting — cheers to 10 years!

Skippy From That Podcast · January 21, 2026

It's so weird how the consistently best true crime podcast can also consistently step on rake after rake when it comes to its own social media messaging.

S
Susan Carruthers · January 22, 2026

It's perfectly clear what was meant in the original message. Some people just love to complain

Lesley Fleming · January 21, 2026

This is the first time I’ve subscribed and looks like I’m on a rookie subscription. I don’t feel like that has given me any extra content and the locked episodes on Spotify are not unlocked. Could someone explain it to me? I feel like I’ve wasted my money.

C
Casefile · January 21, 2026

no problem, we have refunded that for you Lesley.

W
Wishy Lynn · January 21, 2026

I’m disappointed as I joined last year whilst on holiday thinking there were Patreon only episodes. I won’t be renewing.

C
Casefile · January 21, 2026

We can't refund you on Patreon as you have been a subscriber for longer than three months. But DM us and we can make alternative arrangements. Happy to provide a full refund.

B
Bob Trenwith · January 21, 2026

Thanks - this is the exact question I asked last week. Just checking though ... for the sake of that 32 episodes per year, do the multi-parters count as an episode or as multiple episodes?

C
Casefile · January 21, 2026

One episode per part.

S
Suicide Sauce · January 21, 2026

I'm also outside with the angry mob but just because I like to feel included

S
Serena S Witzke · January 21, 2026

Honestly…all I care about is “ad-free”. Anything else is nice, but that’s not what I’m paying for. I’m satisfied, whatever you call the episodes, whenever they are released, and whoever has access to them.

B
Bob Trenwith · January 21, 2026

That's pretty much all I care about. I have no interest at all in the other shows they do. But I have noticed in listening to old episodes that they introduce their ads, then immediately say 'thank you for listening to our ads'. Most of the ads have vanished.

R
Rosie Overell · January 21, 2026

Please keep doing what you are doing!

A
Amanda Perkin · January 20, 2026

Am I right in thinking the only difference is we get same as non payers just a week early? I'm still confused lol

C
Cristi Aikins · January 20, 2026

I’m thinking the same. I have listened since day one and been a subscriber on and off. I joined again recently. Surely you get access to patreon only episodes. Extra ones. Old archive eps as well 🤔

M
Mr Chips · January 20, 2026

Thanks for the clarification! I am happy to know I am not the only one getting confused with the "Premium" vs "Patreon Picks" vs Regular Release names and numbers. I think this will be a good change to prevent listeners from thinking you are releasing duplicates. Cheers!

C
Cristi Aikins · January 20, 2026

Do the rookie tier get access to patron only episodes?

C
Casefile · January 20, 2026

Rookie tier gets access to the Behind the files/q and a. Not to the ad free one week early releases.
