Casefile Extra: Tina Herrmann, Kody Maynard & Stephanie Sprang

When 32-year-old Tina Herrmann didn’t show up for work on Wednesday, November 10 2010, her manager immediately alerted the authorities. Soon they found that not only had Tina vanished, but so had her two children - 13-year-old Sarah Maynard and 11-year-old Kody Maynard - and her best friend, 41-year-old Stephanie Sprang. To make matters worse, there were bloodstains discovered throughout Tina’s home. Soon, clues would lead detectives to a disconcerting scene - a rundown house filled from top to bottom with leaves…

Casefile Extra features bonus episodes exploring compelling cases, stories and topics beyond our regular weekly releases.

I came here solely because I heard Casey say there'd no longer be Premium episodes and knew people were gonna be screaming and staggering around clawing at their eyes like someone'd released a swarm of wasps at the sauna. I'll admit I'm a little bummed too, since the reason I came here in the first place was for the Premiums. BUT! Lucky for you guys, I'm not going anywhere. My own meager Patreon earnings pay for Casey's every month anyway :)

Yea this was a more recent Patreon episode that is being released to the wider audience as part of Casefile archives. Keep in mind the wider audience has not heard this episode before. We have to release it here again on the premium feed due to the overall set up and numbering and how the whole system works. We get it’s not ideal for Patreon and premium subscribers, but it has to be done to maintain consistency across all the feeds. How it’s going to work is; Two re records (already released). Two former premium eps. Two more re records. Two more former premium eps. Then brand new episodes for 2026 begin. As we have always said we will be back in early March with new content. (There will be the same amount of new eps this year as last year - beginning in early March). These archive releases are just bonuses.

So am I right in thinking this is how you’ll now release your premium episodes to the main feed?

This isn't a throwback. It was literally released like two months ago

1.. We know that Casefile is releasing the same number of episodes this year as last year, 2. Accordingly, it seems to make sense that all the episodes will be in-depth ones, 3. Often bonus episodes would then appear in the main feed - and sometimes only a few weeks later, 4. Consequently, I don't see a downside...most full Casefile episodes vary between very good to outstanding and testament to this is the fact that they often warrant more than one relisten. I've listened to some numerous times...for me akin to revisiting a good book after a year or so... 5. Re redux episodes are excellent. Feel free to disagree as this is simply my opinion, but I'm not disappointed.

Okay I say all of this as one of the biggest Casefile fans ever for 10 years strong, but It’s honestly a big bummer about losing the subscriber exclusive episodes. Like it’d be okay on its own, but on top getting fewer and fewer episode every year, it feels like when your favorite tv show goes from consistent 14 episode seasons to releasing 8 episodes every other year.

We’re not losing anything “exclusive”…the general audience always got the “premium” episodes later. The Patreon people always get “exclusive” access to the Behind the Files and Q&A and non-paying members don’t (and never will later, unlike the “premium” episodes).

I can't find this in the list of old episodes. Have you changed the title? What number was it originally?

It’s premium episode #39, released 27 September 2025… it’s not an old one so I’m slightly confused
