Ponce de Leon, Florida.
Does anyone know how the locals pronounce this? I have heard a few different variations now when trying to find it online and I am very confused. Thank you. Casey.
UPDATE:
Excellent. Thank you everyone. Patreon for the win again.
UPDATE TWO:
It seems like there are two ways it's said, both coming from people who grew up in/are from Florida. This is what I recorded https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UclKbLjl6TU This version had the most 'votes' so to speak. Thank you to everyone who commented.

Casey, if you ask Cuban Floridians, they will say “Pon-say, with a hard O, because it’s the correct pronunciation in Spanish. But it’s been Americanized to “Pahnse”
I grew up in Florida. It’s “pawnce duh LEE-on”
Exactly this
grew up in florida. "ponce" is 1 syllable the way they say it
I thought it was French, Why's everyone talking about Florida??🤨🤣🤷♂️
It’s not French—it’s Spanish. Google Ponce de Leon.
Ponshay Day Lyon.
pawnce-duh-lee-on
I say the locals sound like
In American, ponce day Lee-ON.
Pawnce-dah-Lee-on ….it is NOT Pawnce-day-Lee-on. There’s never a ‘day’ in the pronunciation
As a southerner, I can confirm the first comment is correct.
Pawn-Säday-Lee-awn

However the spanish say it i guess. Its named after juan ponce de leon, a spanish explorer who discovered and named florida.
This is not accurate for Florida.
Grew up in Southwest Florida. People around me (white suburbanites) said: “Pawnce day lee-own” Or occasionally “Pawnce-uh day lee-awhn” However I believe the correct Spanish pronunciation would be appropriate too!
Exactly how I learned it in southeast Florida
Here is a video of someone pronouncing it. I'm from Florida and this is how we say it! https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8ACqpRe/
Also from Florida and can confirm that this is how we say it: Pah-ns day-lee-own
Wife grew up in that part of Florida and says Ponce (1 syllable) "day Lee-on" emphasis on the Leon
It’s more ponce dah lee-on
Locals don't use the Spanish pronunciation, especially not of Ponce, they drop the e at the end. If you're familiar with the international phonetic alphabet, the transcription on Wikipedia is accurate to how the locals pronounce it.
I’d go with the way they pronounce it on the Seinfeld episode.
Ive lived in florida my entire life and there really only 2 variations but they are both very similar. The first is the white american version which is the standard: pawnz day lee-own or for the spanish speakers: pon-say de (like dead without the last d) le-own
happy to send a voice memo if needed casey
Pawn-say day lee on is what I say
This is the best patreon post ever Lance day leòn
Should sound like own not clown
