Fishy research

I've been asked to make media concerning the release of Shark Girl (coming in about a week! See what I did there) - and I think it's a fine idea. If no one ever asked me, I'd probably never promote anything, and live in a barrel that also was my clothes.

But media maestro I am not - so I had the idea to talk about the fish in the book, and the research, which I do find genuinely interesting, but also can only make a video in one long take on my phone. So here I am talking about fish and things, and imperfectly describing some thoughts, and also getting distracted by a shot of some birds.

I always need a tab open to for something to read as a break, and as I was YEARS behind on looking at these posts (I always think "Oh I 'll have time to really focus on it later") I finally caught up this spring, and I've saved videos for when I can listen. Can I just say, really truly, you have an A+ speaking voice.

This looks wonderful. The amount of research you've done adds so much to the book. I think Shark Girl would be a great companion with Kim Dwinell's Surfside Girls series which is also informed by regional maritime character (though in this case it is the Southern California Pacific Coast and more history than ecological focused, but its third book is entirely devoted to oceanography, marine biology, marine ecology, and surfing!).

Ooo... This one will do well with the marine biology / fisheries crowd here! Many conversations about those bottom trawlers and the impacts they're having on bycatch species.

Really nice to hear a familiar accent today - and all my friends' kids will be *aggressively* getting this book
