Ramble: Avatar: The Way of Waterpark

This video is 3 years old now, but I just have to share this thought I've been having ever since: an Avatar theme park should just be set several decades after the movies and say that the "village" is populated by humans AND the children of human and Na'vi couples. That way they can have actors who are human sized and have 5 fingers but are painted blue and look like Na'vi. They wear some more clothes because they've developed a beautiful mixed heritage culture, and they have this small human-sized settlement where things are built with human size and limitations in mind! The Na'vi are nearby, they just don't like to mingle with outsiders as much, but you can see them on some rides out in the forest and in those pictures on the walls. I feel like that would make the whole thing feel so much less weird. And you could even get creative with the looks of the "mixed" generations, not everyone has to be in full face paint, some of them you could just give a wig and some glow-in-the-dark freckles and call it a day.

Frankie Gallagher · July 25, 2026

Idea for the direhorse ride: you could have the lore of the ride be that it's a group of first-time navi, as if you all grew up and are in the same class. That could tie into the kiddie version of the ride; people would grow up with the first ride and when they hit the height requirement, it would be a kind of "adults only" thing

Ive commented something similar to this on like 10 ramble videos at this point but i listened to this while i was half a sleep in a feverish state and got a very vivid visual of how the tulkun lazy river would look and now im so upset its not real

A Tapirus is just a giant Tapir because Avatar is lazy as hell.

A
Audrey Lopata · December 7, 2024

So much of the Avatar design is wildly imaginative and elaborately thought out that when one does occasionally run into “lazy” things in the world/ lore it’s really funny. Like the Papyrus font title 😝

PurpleIsDebeste · October 25, 2024

my gut instinct says that the soul tree fireworks should have a paper lantern element but that also sounds a bit like a nightmare. but also disney might do a nightmare idea

P
PurpleIsDebeste · October 25, 2024

the rda base camp was so blatantly awful i wasnt prepared for how cool the dire wolf ride would be - both the kids version and the fast version!

L
Logan P · October 25, 2024

I don't think I can adequately express how much I want to go on the Direhorse hunt ride! I really like that point about the novelty of being alone at an amusement park - I feel like they're so often hectic, overstimulating environments, and that can make quiet ride moments feel so special, and the idea of having a little solo adventure is so fascinating to me. Especially when you don't actually know what to expect going in!

I've actually really liked all of the jenny's choice videos that have happened so far, since you'll pick a topic that you feel more excited about and it shows. (I also love that the first one was mlp collecting because that is an interest of mine, so the topic really worked out for me in particular haha)

the first 13 minutes were perfectly dull and ordinary and then she casually pivoted to sacrificing rowdy boys to the US military in exchange for funding this imaginary avatar the way of water park without skipping a beat, thats a 10/10 for me

A

I originally skipped this video because just the idea of waterparks fills me with rage. But then curiosity got to me and I watched it and now I feel silly lol Great video. Genuinely cool and horrific. I hate how the military bit sounds cartoonishly evil and fully plausible at the same time.

There's a theme park in the UK called Blackpool Pleasure Beach where they have one of those horse track rides, but they put the horses on a rollercoaster track, and it's honestly terrifying because you're only being held in place by a belt around your waist that you could 100% unbuckle at any time.

M

STEEPLECHASE!!!!! yeah it's insane that they were allowed to do that

L
Lauren Zhang · January 12, 2024

Just to come out here and defend the legoland horse track ride bc that was one of my favorites as a kid, it has this great moment where u bully a squire by riding through this rotating training shield that he’s holding onto (with your lance that is molded to the horse ofc) and he goes “oh no, not again!” In retrospect still pretty dinky but i thought it was fun when i was 7

EDIT: The waterpark OCEANA has burned down before opening!!!! There's a huge black skeleton of a waterpark left, and it's inside of the rest of the themepark! Will try to update more once themepark season has started again and my seasonally employed friend can report back to me on how it has affected the rest of Liseberg. Have you heard of Liseberg in Sweden? I believe it's Scandinavia's largest theme park (and just happens to be in my city, so let me know if you go!) well they just built a waterpark *within* their theme park called OCEANA which is set to open Spring/Summer 2024! 🥳🥳🌊 My best friend is a seasonal employee at Liseberg so I might be able to get one of the early tickets if I'm lucky. I know you've gone to theme parks in Europe before, so maaybe possible? 🤷🏼 Love, //Person who has watched your Pandora theme park video 5-6 times, and your Evermore one over 10

Jenny, as a patron who will intentionally not watch your uploads for a while so that I can binge several at once on a cozy day off, I want to say that I’ve noticed your increased anxiety around the quality of your content and the way it’s made you hesitant to post etc. Please know that your most casual, least-thought-out content is already better than pretty much everything else I watch on the internet, and that while I understand and will always support you holding yourself to a high standard, I hope that you are able to move toward doing that out of a love for what you do and not out of fear of our reactions. Does that make sense? Like… I believe you are an artist and you have every right to always be pushing your creativity to new heights. But it makes me sad to think of you stopping yourself from making things you want to make because you’re afraid of external negative feedback or because you’re worried about timelines of relevance. I think your specific content is the kind that need not concern itself with either of those things because what makes it so beloved is how niche and rewatchable at any time it is. I know I can’t possible understand how difficult it must be to shut out all the noise when you’re a public figure on the internet. But idk. Wanted to say something somewhere. I hope you’re getting support in your personal life to help you manage the understandable stress of your job and that you hear all of us who care cheering you on through the noise.

J
Jackson Lundeen · August 20, 2023

You gotta strategically place dire horse hunting party in the park so all the branching paths can visit the different attractions and areas. So like in one path you’ll accidentally stumble into an RDA rollercoaster building and a tank will lurch at you and you have to make a swift exit, or you’ll run around on a hill overlooking the lazy river. That way if you ride it once, as you’re enjoying your day at the rest of the park you’re seeing glimpses of where other paths can take you.

Also thank you for providing a great verbal explanation for why I'm so underwhelmed with the trackless ride system as a whole. The mechanics are way too routinely unreliable for the demand the Disney attractions get. I really hope it gets phased out because you're absolutely right with the scuffing issue making the actual "trackless" part borderline pointless.

T

re: the novelty of strictly single-rider attractions, this is exactly what I love about autopia. as an adult, I do wish the specific property of the ride was more themed or that the track had a better view of Tomorrowland. I voted for this topic but my only hesitation was that it was phrased “the way of water park” meaning I was afraid it wouldn’t be a water park if it were picked. Also I DO love water parks except for the teenage boys that created a blockade across the lazy river last time I was at one (two days ago) so corralling them away from me makes for a perfect park. So Jenny you have made all my patron dreams come true today 🥹

A lot of patrons seem okay with more "Jenny's Choice" (and I always enjoy the topics she chooses!) but it feels a bit unfair to Jenny really. When the vote doesn't produce a clear topic, she has to do this extra preliminary brainstorming step, so it's like we're creeping up the monthly ask without quite saying so. Choosing a good topic is hard, but patrons shouldn't shirk the job! And when in doubt, just ask for more theme park stuff, because this was great.

The “Jenny’s Choice” topic was mine, and my bad! I was feeling lazy and idly wondering if I could resurrect an old topic. That led me to wonder what old topic Jenny would choose, and I didn’t stop to question if that violated a rule. Whoops! All that said, this ramble was A+ amazing. I’m imagining the park was designed by Na’vi for Na’vi and humans, and there will be Na’vi characters walking around in little families going, “oh my, there are so many humans here today. Look at the little ones!” and then asking kids to take pictures with them and funny stuff like that.

M
Megan Onuma · October 1, 2023

Only partly related…. In Hawaii where I live there are many invasive species. There is an initiative to get people to eat non-native invasive plants, to decrease their abundance. Maybe the fiddlehead fritters are a similar initiative on pandora!

f
funkypenguin3000 · August 8, 2023

ok what if in the edu-tainment children's discovery museum section there was like a basic lab procedure. i'm thinking titration (so like the chemicals could be behind glass, but a kid turns a knob that pours the color-changing chemicals into the solution and they could turn different colors! and when they run out of chemicals the station could rotate around and a new titration would be there, and behind a wall there's a guy just refilling the same 2 titrations). this could be in the avatar-themed section of the edu-tainment building, so parents feel feel ok letting their kid hang out there because at least they're learning how to do an "experiment", and it would be fun for the kids and then people would want to hang out and learn about avatar-plants and avatar-animals and THEN they'll want to buy more avatar themed merch!

S
Steve Ray · August 8, 2023

The US military sponsors like 95% of all movies and TV shows that get produced, anyway, so some of these dreams have already come true.

D
David A Behlman · August 8, 2023

Getting the military to fund this is perfectly insidious and the thematic execution is ingenious for the results. So let's work out more details: We could have each of the branches recruiting at each of the rides. Army - Intamin LSM Launch Air Force - B&M or Vekoma Flying Dive Coaster Navy - Mack Rides Xtreme Spinner Marines - RMC Topper Track (or their T-Rex model) The names could basically be normal references to the Military or vehicles since the RDA isn't that different. With this small but robust line-up they will never leave (until the next war starts). I forgot about the Coast Guard, so they can have a spot in the almost themed shopping area just outside the park.

N

Funneling teen boys and low income guests directly to the military recruiters so that they keep giving the park money is such an evil genius plan

Jenny, if you are intrigued by indoor themed waterparks, you NEED to go to the Wisconsin Dells! It's "The waterpark capital of the world." Many of the parks are outdoors, but there are quite a few indoor ones. Also, it's just an incredibly kitschy tourist trap town. I highly recommend going or just looking into it!

E

As someone from southern Wisconsin, it is always bizarre to me when someone *hasn't* been to the Dells at least once. Many thoughts, trying to pick the best ones: 1) I love that not only has Jenny found a way to isolate the Coaster Bros, she's also made it a way to enlist them in the military and ship them away; 2) The obligatory dad-shirts were spot on, the first dad-shirt I saw at Disneyworld in May said "Most expensive day ever!" in the Disney font and I just thought "Damn, you are determined to Randy Moore your way through this trip, huh;" 3) Tron: Lightcycles has the exact restraints Jenny needs for the trackless Na'vi hunt ride; 4) Face paint in a waterpark is a bold choice, respect; 5) The amusement of the "I need to kill that part of myself" caption was more rewarding to me, a viewer, than footage of a skateboarder who kind of looked like Spider could have been; 6) Disney should immediately bulldoze Dinoland USA and build this.

D

I love this! I want to ride the Tulkun Lazy River. This reminds me of the two dark rides at Water World that I was obsessed with as a kid. I wish it was a type of ride that was more common. There's a pretty recent ride-through on youtube, so apparently they are still running. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1Y0_bGk5oA

J
Jenny Nicholson · August 8, 2023

wow!! I've never seen anything like this at a water park. There was a Water World near-ish to me growing up but it was just the stereotypical wave pool, lazy river, outdoor plastic slides on stilts kind of thing. Ngl something about the proximity to the animatronics + how low they're sitting in the water + lack of restraints makes these rides extremely unnerving to me. Even log flumes give me the heebie jeebies when they're sitting low to the waterline

When you mentioned Germany last month I immediately thought of Europa and had my fingers crossed that you would go and enjoy it!! 🖤🖤🖤

Yeah I thought we'd get the evening ticket and just go for a few hours to film the theming and do the obligatory stuff (the lazy river and weird underwater VR thing) but we ended up going earlier, spent like 7 hours there til it closed, and would've gone back another night except our group kept collecting injuries so we couldn't lol. I also loved Kronasar, I would've booked it as our hotel if it was more convenient to the main park. If I was local I'd love to do a weekend of just Rulantica!

If you're up for an indoor waterslide, https://www.booking.com/hotel/ca/mississauga-meadowvale-resort.html "Located close to Pearson International Airport and boasting one of the area's longest indoor waterslides, this family-friendly ...".

ayy Canada represent. Also, I always wonder what Jenny would think of Canada's Wonderland even though I know she'd find it awful because it is all roller-coasters and incredibly long lines lol. And the waterpark is bullshit to boot.

I’m also really surprised I cant buy a large plush tulkun?? I was going to get the lego but I just didn’t care enough

A
Aimee W · August 8, 2023

but of course for your imagined park it there could be the regular tulkun, and then a park exclusive of payakan

B
Barca · August 7, 2023

Ooh, and what if the military dystopia section was an alt universe where the RDA won (a lot of teenage boys REALLY want that), so all the windows are just screens showing barren landscapes dotted with unobtainium mines and army guys in mechs walking around

Waterparks always seemed to present really fascinating theme park layout questions that designers rarely engage with, I guess because they tend to be much cheaper than regular theme parks (at least the ones in California are). By their nature, waterslides don't generally have the entrance and exit right next to each other, since you need to start high and end low. Most places get around this by just having a big hill with all the slides where the line starts at the bottom, or even just a big metal tower with the same idea, but you don't *have* to do it that way. And yeah, stating in one area, going on a ride, and ending up in a completely different area sounds incredibly disorienting and impractical, but *I* think that's something designers should embrace. What's more immersive and thrilling than getting lost? And yes, obviously this will result in packs of feral lost kids, but I think this is just the cost of innovation. Disney seems to do fine with all the cats.

Dan Gibbins · August 8, 2023

Xenses in Mexico does this; you eventually loop back to where the waterslide and zipline rides started (to get your sunglasses from the cubby), but you don't end where you started by and large.

That was amazing someone start a gofundme so we can bring this incredible experience to life!!! And the military funded rollercoaster area was GENIUS I'm actually shocked they haven't tried something like that irl to boost their low recruitment numbers 🤔

This video kinda proves me theory that Avatar is perfect for a theme Park but the merch end is just never going to quite work. But they should absolutely push more plushes vs more moulded plastic trying to give off woven vibes. Although a bespoke earth mother line of premium merch would slam

A

if the park could get the funding they could hire off-season basketball players for a Navi vs RDA basketball game

(employee, face painted blue, swings pin-on tail listlessly) “I don’t know why. I guess the boss lady made some money talking about Star Wars on YouTube? Maybe the park was a bit? Anyway she hates the sun and water so she isn’t around much. Man here comes some customers. Sivako! You must be this tall to tame the mighty Ikron tube flume.”

I love the idea of the pure souled emissaries of the Great Mother delivering me sushi. Then I can pretend it’s Eywa’s divine will rather than my own that got me uncomfortably full on Philadelphia rolls.

i haven’t been to disney in 20 years but i watch you lots and also other disney content (but not ridethroughs) and the reveal that rise of the resistance is secretly frozen ever after was the best plot twist

The home tree area made me think of Agartha from Secret World Legends. Leave it to Jenny to find a way for the military-industrial complex to serve a good purpose in this world. Having all the rowdy coaster-obsessed teens self-select out of most of the park would almost be worth poisoning the minds of younger generations with slick military propaganda. As a resident of Las Vegas, I can confirm that restaurants where the waiters insult you are indeed becoming a big thing in tourism. The one in Excalibur is where a pro-wrestling restaurant used to be long ago. I much preferred the pro-wrestling restaurant.

Your crown looks amazing! I've been on a lot of "horse rides" in Europe, as a child and as an adult, and it's amazing every time. Pregnant women can do it, kids can feel safe riding with their parents or like a cowboy riding alone. On some, you can rock the horse back and forth to make it more 'intense' or just enjoy the ride at a gentle pace. They are pretty, calm, super immersive, and should be mandatory in all parc.

I love the idea of the Na'vi making a big fake replica of the home tree for tourists to take pictures with.

The "rowdy teenage boy section" sponsored by the U.S. military was absolutely hilarious, especially since I feel like they probably would fund it.
