August Ramble: Horror Movies I Like
Comments (154)
I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the new 28 Years Later movies.
I’ve always loved horror movies. I’m not usually susceptible to jump scares but I love when a movie can creep me out. Like I’ll never forget watching The Ring and then leaving my bedroom and immediately being startled by my niece’s little white dress that was hanging in the dark living room.
I'm always excited when Red Eye is mentioned. I have a piece of obscure and rare merch like your owl plush that I forgot what movie it's from. It's the Chekov's pen. I got it from a preview screening at a convention. Hello from the future!
As Above So Below mentioned, yaaay 🥳
10 Cloverfield Lane had one of the best trailers ever and the movie was great too. The Purge had an amazing premise - so much so that I saw the trailer at home at 6:45 pm one night, and I got dressed and got to the movie theater in time for the 7pm show. Non-Stop was a lot of fun. It kinda reminds me of Source Code but without sci-fi elements.
So glad that 28 years later came out 4 years after this 🦅
I got so happy when you mentioned Louise Paxton! That's one of my favourite web series' of all time and I feel like almost no one knows about it!
Regarding found footage horror 'Cannibal Holocaust' from 1980 is a must see
Does the glass onion fit into that genre? 🤔 hmm
Hello from the future! I wonder how close Squid Games fits into the creepy millionaire dinner party genre? Perhaps you will mention it when I get to your 2021 rambles.
Squid Game from how I understand it is more of a commentary on capitalist systems and the exploitation of the working class, whereas the creepy millionaire dinner party is more contained, silly and maybe only making commentary on class differences and how strange rich people can become when money distorts their perspectives. I think that idea and Squid Game are pretty different tonally and in their execution.
Glad you mentioned diary of the dead. Seriously underrated Romero movie imo. Loved most of his work though sadly cant say I’ve seen land of the dead because everyone says it was bad. For a while I didnt watch day of the dead for the same reasons but that one was also a banger. I do want to do a marathon of all his zombie movies in sequential order one day. Also found footage is also one of my favorite horror genres despite most of them being bad. Should check out the v/h/s franchise and rec
Ready or not, Most dangerous game, Self-reliance is sort of, Fantasy island and Hard target but i havent seen them. These might fit the evil billionaire makes people play evil game genre
aww im sad there was no The Crazies (2010) mention in the zombies section! love that movie so much. loved to hear the shoutout for Red Eye tho!!! great video <3
Although Jenny said she isn't interested in the Halloween movies, I think she would really enjoy Halloween Resurrection. It's certainly bad, but it's one of the most fun movies in the franchise. It was made in 2002 and it's the most 2002 thing you've ever seen, including reality shows, the early internet, a gratuitous role for a rapper who can't act, and even a found footage component!
The South Korean monster movie from the early 2000s called The Host is a good one.
Old millionaire invites people to a dinner party and forces them to play his sadistic game is, I believe (although I’ve never seem the movie), the plot of Murder By Death. Which, amazingly, stars Truman Capote. Although i have heard that the movie overall did not age well lol.
It did not age well. It's kinda neat to see all the famous detectives in the movie, but it's mostly painfully unfunny, and yeah, racist. Much better to watch Clue again.
Have you ever seen the original Old Dark House movie? It's old, from the 1930s, I think, but it's interesting, first because it gave a name to an entire genre of movies that take place in spooky old dark houses (of course), and it set a lot of the tropes of that genre, like the group of strangers trapped in an old mansion on a dark and stormy night. Second, it's interesting because there is nothing supernatural happening in this house - there are no ghosts, monsters, or jump scares - the movie is creepy because the humans in the house are creepy people. It's sort of like what you describe about a general sense of wrongness. It's psychological. The people who own this house are seriously disturbed people, and they are the ones who make the house dangerous. It also leaves you with some questions about the history of the people in this house. There are some disturbing things in their pasts that are only half explained or even just hinted at, leaving the details up to your imagination. The movie was based on a book, and I bought a copy to see if they explain more about some of these things in the book, but they don't. The sinister hints about this family's past are just supposed to make you wonder. When you see the scene with the old man in it and he talks about his children, there's one more child than anyone else has mentioned. I don't think this child of his is named, but he apparently died young for reasons which no one ever explicitly explains ... except for maybe Saul. Saul is crazy, but if you take some of his ravings literally, he might actually be naming his unnamed brother and telling you what happened to him.
Highly recommend hell house llc! Super fun, super halloween-y, with a few really good scares in there. Also it’s found footage! I’m also big into found footage after watching cloverfield in a drive in while pretending to be asleep at 9 years old.
Wonder how she feels about REC? It's a found footage film AND and zombie film.
I love that you also like Saw, I feel very validated
I also like Blair Witch. I almost never watch horror, I'm too squeamish, even a little blood freaks me out, but another horror movie I liked a lot was Hell House LLC. The first one was really great if you like movies that build slowly. Also, it was one of those films that made it worth extra viewings because you can see little things in the background or hear things that you didn't understand the first time. The two sequels weren't very good, what I liked about the first one is that they still left it very ambiguous what was really going on.
“The Blair Witch Project” and “The Witch” are probably my favourite horror movies of all time, so I’m glad they got such glowing reviews from you in this video. For my sins, I’m a fan of the “Resident Evil” movies, even though I know they’re objectively terrible… it’s just that the first one combined so many things I genuinely love (zombies, metal music, Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, and (fictional) evil corporations), so I’ll never get tired of rewatching it. The second one was also a lot of fun, as you say, but they got less appealing for me once they moved from a lab/urban setting to a post-apocalyptic wasteland… Regardless, I now have a list of previously unseen movies I need to look up, so thank you for the recommendations! :) Also, I reaffirm my interest in seeing a “Jeff the Killer 2” video someday… it’s what the people want!
I like the Resident Evil movies for the fun, slick way they mash up my favorite sci-fi and horror tropes. For me, 2 was the worst one (just too cheesy) and 5 is my fave because of the crazy concept and the way it brings back settings and characters from the previous movies.
watching this a couple of months late but just wanted to say that world war z is absolutely one of my favourite zombie movies it doesn’t look good but it really is
Signed up to Patreon just to watch more Jenny and spending my post Christmas day watching some videos and bam Australian horror movies are bad... as an Australian filmmaker I... nope, nope actually that's accurate. We make bad ones... A lot of bad ones. Glad someone said it.
You mentioned in this video really liking the "finding audio recordings" method of storytelling, such as in bioshock. One of my favourite recent games was Horizon: Zero Dawn. It takes place in a far distant post apocalypse where humans have reformed into tribes and absolutely no one has any knowledge of the way the world used to be or how it became the way it is. Basically the entirety of the games story is told by exploring old ruins of civilization and finding audio recordings, slowly piecing bit by bit how the world ended. Not expecting you to play it, but I thought you might find the concept interesting so I figured I'd mention it.
When a story is told through letters, like in Bram Stoker's Dracula, that's "epistolary," but is there a general term for a story told through [found footage / ruins / rubbish]? "Documentary"? "Investigative"? "Forensic"? "Archaeological"?
Session 9 is my favourite psychological horror movie, it's really really good.
I can't believe I've missed out on so many videos.
Just watched Diary of the Dead and it is SO good! The Professor, the Amish guy with the chalkboard, both mummy chase scenes omg there's so much to love!
I wonder if 'Wolf Creek' holds up? The first one, I mean. It was a pretty intense watch.
I actually haven't seen many Australian horror movies but I just remembered one with Crocodiles and thought that was Wolf Creek but it was not. It turns out there are a lot of movies about crocodiles though.
There's the 1934 'Ninth Guest' - the prototype of the crazed rich guy's murder party genre! It was actually done before Agatha Christie's very similar "Ten Little Indians" (aka Then There Were None") - the 1970s version had Ollie Reed and an awesome soundtrack by an Italian composer.
At least Australians have New Zealand horror movies to make us feel better <a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0779982/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0779982/</a>
Tarantino's "The Man from Hollywood" (the last act of Four Rooms) and Hitchcock's "The Man from the South" kind of fit into the creepy millionaire trope. I haven't seen Hitchcock's version but it's supposed to be more suspense/horror than Tarantino's take. Also Happy Death Day (2017) merges slasher horror with my absolute favorite trope, Groundhog Day time looping!
Have you seen Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Nights, the Japanese spin off? Since you liked the others it's worth a watch. I thought it was good.
I can't speak for everyone but the longer videos are my favourites, they're like visual podcasts and it's great
World War Z. I think I remember enjoying it while I was watching it, but I don't remember anything besides an awesome female side-character who didn't get enough screen time, so it was probably pretty mediocre. The book is really excellent though, I ate that up.
It made me laugh when you referred to 'Jenny lore'. Where can I go to find out what's canon?
Have you seen/what do you think about The Descent, Hush and Trollhunters (not the cartoon show)?
The first Sinister is incredible. Sinister 2 just made me feel gross.... like (not a spoiler because it's in the trailer) the rats. And it was so much more violent than the first one. But absolutely watch the first one (the sheriff is explained). It's worth it alone if only for Ethan Hawke and his sweater.
Yes, The videos were you read bad fic are my fav. I would patron a 2nd account for the channel that did that.
personally, I really enjoy the old school, low budget slashers like the original halloween. they just have some kind of campy charm to em
The original Halloween is chock full of theme.
I haven’t watched the video yet but I’m kind of obsessed with this 1970s Solo extra if there was a mall chase look.
Finally got around to this. You mentioned The Last Exorcism, but didn't mention The Exorcist. I think it's funny that older people think f it as really scary, but younger people, when seeing it in a theater setting, laugh at it. Thoughts on The Exorcist franchise?
Exorcist is one of those movies people are afraid to criticise, but I think it was lame. I think that if you don't believe in demonic possession, and are not a child, it doesn't hold up.
Motel Hell: a horrific fear-of-the-rural-South movie, with a genial villain played by Rory Calhoun
Recommended!
The Asphyx: 1960's British horror, where a small group learns they can stay immortal by trapping the angel of death.
If you aren't already, carry a handgun and be prepared to use it. Self defense is a human right. It's perfectly normal and prudent. Tens of millions Americans do it every day. Don't let California brainwash you into thinking you don't have natural, civil and constitutionally protected rights.
And add some Krav Maga, for when you have to walk the red carpet (or any other situations where you'd rather not carry a handgun).
The engagement in these comments has been pretty fantastic, so here's my contribution: In college there was a pyjama party movie night event and the movie chosen was Quarantine, which is a found footage zombie movie set inside this one apartment complex. It was very enjoyable but also extremely predictable, I remember that I'd called what was going to happen next so often that a dude nearby was like "have you seen this before?" and I was like, no, you just get a kind of intuition for this sort of thing after absorbing enough zombie-and-found-footage-related content. Anyway apparently it's a remake of [REC], which is a Spanish film and was probably much better based on what I've read, so I suppose I'd recommend anyone who hasn't seen either to watch that version first, or perhaps only.
Sometimes I feel like the only person who enjoyed Cloverfield Paradox, haha! I'm with you on creepy witches and Paranormal Avtivity minus the first and last ones. I guess they also kinda count as witch movies. They make for excellent Halloween movie marathons! There is a silly German Paranormal Activity on Netflix called "The Presence". Basically found footage "trying to catch a ghost" in an old German castle. And another funny one on Netflix: The Pyramid. Also found footage. By the end of the movie they get attacked by CGI cats.
Here's a couple of Japanese ones you could check out: Perfect Blue and Audition.
Audition is one of those Japanese movies that just has people being mean to each other.
I'd skip World War Z and see Train to Busan instead.
Halloween costumes 2! This time, every costume is Plo Koon, but doing different blue-collar jobs. Plumber Plo Koon, Bus Driver Plo Koon, Saucy Dexter Jettster Waitress Plo Koon!
So the serial-killing forensic pathologist goes undercover as a flight attendant on Hooters Airlines?
And What ? No mention of "Cabin in the Woods"
I liked it "Okay" but wasn't obsessed with it the way a lot of people were when it came out. I think it felt more novel to people who weren't as into the genre and hadn't heard a lot of similar observational humor about horror movies already
To add to your "Group of People invited to a mansion for sadistic games" genre, you can research "And Then There Were None" based on the Agatha Christie story. Which probably invented the genre. There has been so many version made.
I was born, raised and lived most of my life in Baltimore. The Blair Witch thing was filmed not too far from where I lived. It was funny. When the movie first came out, that area got tons of sightseers. Most of them drunken college kids. I live in South Central Pennsylvania now. I'm a short drive from Gettysburg, the ghost tour capital of the world. It's like Halloween all year round there.
World War z the Movie...eh. WWZ the *book*, on the other hand, is friggin' fantastic, probably close to the best if not the best single piece of zombie-related media there is. Checks oh so many boxes.
disagree on the book
I would love to see another costume video too. I have watched the last eight times already.
Really excited for the upcoming videos!!! I love the fanfic videos so I'm glad that Jeff the Killer 2 is coming up. I would also definitely like to see another Halloween costumes video, if you could find some stuff that would be fun to talk about.
The Amish guy was one of the best scenes. And... Ridley right? In his mummy costume. Whoever you watch it with, any screening, they're all dying by the time you get to the mansion
If a sequel to the halloween costumes video could be half as funny as the last one, it would definitely be worth doing!
Here is "Ghost Hunt," a found-footage old-tyme radio drama <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgyQbONkYec" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgyQbONkYec</a>
For high-quality horror: Bug, by Wm. Friedkin.
hey jenny, what about the shining? that's got a little bit of everything, even skeletons
Ecch, the skeletons are only in the American theatrical version. Kubrick's final cut, released in Europe, removes them plus some other redundant stuff.
Creepy millionaire host feels like a throwback to the gothic murder mystery, for sure. The second half of Dracula (once the story moves to his castle) is kind of like that, too. Most Dangerous Game fits as an early film example. Sleuth (the one with Michael Cane and Lawrence Olivier) kind of falls into it, too, iirc, though it's more thriller than horror. Also - have you watched The Ritual on Netflix? I was shocked at how good it was.
Common in sci fi, too: The Island of Dr Moreau, Forbidden Planet, or about 127 different Star Trek episodes where the kindly alien hosts Aren't As They Seem.
I'm surprised Jenny didn't mention A Quiet Place.
This is really weird but I actually didn't see it, a lot of my friends saw it without me and I just never got around to it
is “the patbox ghost” a good twitter halloween name? none of my friends get it and think I should go with “prl stine.” I need a dianeylanders opinion here
The Patbox Ghost is good if you're going to be interacting mainly with the theme parks twittersphere. Perhaps you need better friends
world war Z is a zombie movie that doesn't make sense, and as to if it is good... well... it exists i suppose
I know it's not a movie but that evil potato or sponge? under the sink goosebumps story was the scariest thing to me as a child lol. I don't watch many many horror films now, living as a human being in 2018 is horrific enough.
Hi I'm just chiming in to assert that a) I love the fanfic videos, I unironically love fanfic/the community around it but I also love bad fic and you choose some great cringey ones and b) would love another costume video, the last one was great
Thoughts on John Carpenter's The Thing?
I was kinda out of it and probably won't rewatch the whole ramble to find out, but did Jenny mention Alien (1979)?
Sadly, no.
I hear Venom is going to be like a classic monster movie. I hate to admit to you guys, I'm really looking forward to it. Let the cruel chastisement begin.
I saw The Boy in theaters. And for someone who's seen horror movies for 30+ years, I'll never forgive myself that the "twist" actually surprised me when it happened.
The Perfect Host is a thriller riffing on the eccentric millionaire party genre and is quite good. Plus David Hyde Pierce as the titular host.
For casual videos you should wear sweats and eat rice Krispy treats and have the neverending story soundtrack in the background.
You look like a mix of like every Scooby Doo character here lol (also edit, World War Z is super overrated and not worth it at all. Cant speak on the book though I havent read it) (another edit, I watched the entirety of Would You Rather and the characters there are such cookie cutter horror movie stereotypes and its so funny. My favorite was the goth girl who was like super brooding the entire movie and I kind of relate to her)
When I first saw Warm Bodies I felt like an idiot because I totally didn't pick up on the Romeo/Juliet thing until literally the very end when they're sitting together & talking about his name & then I was like: "wait a minute...". To be fair, I've never read/seen the play so I didn't get the more subtle hints at all. // & in re: Red Eye: I definitely remember that movie. I was way too young/sheltered when I saw it & was traumatized by that bit with the pen (I won't spoil it but people who've seen it should know). Not an exaggeration: I legitimately still get shivers thinking about it even though I haven't seen it since it came out.
Next ramble idea: La Croix flavors ranked
Lime is alright.
I'm a bit of a horror film hater as I scare easily, but will happily read horror novels. Absolutely loved the Shining as a novel (well, not loved, but appreciated) and am also a fan of the Hannibal series of the books. I'm always surprised when people have said they've read them and don't like them but at the same time if you have a psychology degree I can imagine they are fairly annoying. I will admit though that they have really dragged the crime genre down though as every book/film/TV show now has to have a hyper-intelligent high functioning villain Hannibal-type,
13 Sins is a better version of Would You Rather imo. I can't believe you haven't seen the first Sinister, it's in my top 10 and it's one of my fav horror soundtracks. God, I'm so happy this topic won, I love horror and I love hearing your opinions on movies. Very excited for your Beastly video, obviously Jeff the Killer. If I had the patience to animate, I would animate some of the audio from your first Jeff the Killer video. I'd love another costume one but I'm up for anything spooky for October. Sorry you have to deal with creepy people, no one deserves that. But i appreciate that you still try to do these things anyway, be safe.
world war z is definitely worth a watch, way better than i expected based on the trailer. it was plagued by bad press over its reshot 3rd act, but i found it hella enjoyable. i would also like to express my love of the saw films. i think the scripts were always very clever and it was a quality franchise the whole way through. darren lynn bousman (2-4) was the best director that franchise had. you can see them struggle without him, 5 and 7 being the low points (the director of 7 didn’t even want to be there, and was forced to out of spite). but 6 is a wonderful indictment of the health insurance industry. and my personal favorite is 3, mainly for its focus on the amanda young character played by shawnee smith. also jenny, you once mentioned the idea of possibly starting a separate horror-based channel, and i just want to say yes please do that
Saw VI was as heavy-handed as a Soviet infomercial.
The Grudge? The Ring?
Not a big fan of either :-/ Also I feel like with the advent of Youtube a Ring remake ought to be a sure bet, but I heard the remake was not good
speaking of horror, have you seen this horror anthology show on syfy called "Channel Zero" that's based on popular creepypastas? I haven't heard anyone talk about it and they don't show it in my country, but I stumbled upon it on wikipedia by accident and my thoughts immediately went to your creepypasta videos. There's even one episode about the creepypasta you mentioned about a children's tv show that was actually just static
I'm very ashamed that I haven't seen Channel Zero. I watched the pilot and just couldn't get into it. I ought to give it another chance as my sister watched and really liked both seasons
Hey Jenny, why didn't you like Hereditary? I thought it was amazing :D
Sorry you are having some difficulty with things, I hope it's temporary. Have a safe trip...I can think of two other horror films that have the plot of a rich person taking a bunch of people to a secluded location for some twisted game, "House on Haunted Hill" (both original and remake) and "April Fool's Day". If you want a non horror version, you can add "Murder by Death", which is a parody of detective films, in which a bunch of detectives are invited to a party to solve the host's murder by the host, before the murder (no, that doesn't make much sense to me either).
The conjuring and insidious movies are not in the same universe but they do both star Patrick Wilson. He's great but it makes it very confusing. Love horror movies and I feel like we were in the same group of being a teen during the mid 2000s gore heavy movies. I like recent movies that have come out much better. Great video and I'm looking forwards to more spooky and Halloween videos.
As far as 'sadistic millionaire invites people to his mansion,' a few I can think of are And Then There Were None (never seen the movie version tho), Murder By Death, and Clue. None of these are really horror and the last two are almost more parody. I feel like a lot of the movies/books in this genre/plot are probably playing off Agatha Christie's work. Heck, Murder on the Orient Express is at least adjacent to the genre.
Clue is my favorite movie ever, but I don't consider it a horror film at all
Omg I remember LOVING league of extraordinary gentlemen, like I was so pissed that my family was trash talking it after we saw it. I was like “dad, it’s a great movie”. I wasn’t even into for that actor that girls had a crush on, I just thought it was a great ensemble movie with a fantastic twist.... I don’t want to rewatch it and find out how wrong I was.
That is totally a genre! Wasn't "The Invitation" in that same vein? It somehow feels like there are tons of these movies.
Doesn't it seem like Swedish films are a subtle plea for oblivion? NOTHING nice happens up there.
Thanks for the ramble I received a lot of good movie suggestions from it. I don't like the gore/slasher movies so I haven't watched many of the films mentioned, but I like thriller/suspense so I'll check those out. I watched World War Z in theaters when it came out and completely forgot about it. Not really worth seeing and I hope they don't go through with the sequel! It feels like a good time for a Star Wars video, but I'm also really looking forward to the next Jeff the Killer book so you can't go wrong wither way!
Chip Coffey also had his own short lived program called Psychic Kids. I'll tell you what though, if I had a ghost bothering me, I'd want Chip Coffey in my corner. He kicks protoplasmic butt!
You wound me. Of course I've seen the masterpiece Psychic Kids!
So, I’m not a horror movie person...the closest I come to watching those is The Sixth Sense. But I feel like Eccentric Millionaire’s Twisted Game Night has to be some sort of genre primarily because Community dedicated an entire episode to it. But maybe that was just a tribute to a specific movie. I’m not sure.
Besides like every else has said about House on Haunted Hill, I can't think of any other "eccentric millionaire's inviting people over" genre.
The World War Z book was good, but not the movie. The book came before the surge and over-saturation of zombie stuff in the late 2000s.
Sorry to hear about the situation, safety before fan service always please. My favorite horror movie from when I was a kid was Phantasm(79), it's so unpredictable with it's plot and my friends and I saw it at like midnight but I'm not sure it would hold up to time. My female friends seem to hold Suspiria(77) with high regard but the special effects are so bad they just don't work for me.
I'm admittedly not a huge horror movie guy, but based on what I've seen, I'd say The Thing (1982) is probably one of the best horror movies ever made. Between the structure, the characters, the practical effects and that score, it's just an incredible production. If we're talking the scariest movie ever made, though... let's be real, Jenny: it's The Brave Little Toaster.
Great video! :) Do you have any thoughts on last year's "It" or "The Ring"?
I liked this year's IT! It didn't really feel like a horror movie/wasn't very scary to me, but as a weirdly gory kids' adventure I really enjoyed it. Need more monster movies culminating in kids beating a monster with bats. None of the friends I saw it with liked it. I was never too into The Ring, or its sort-of-cousin The Grudge
I'd love to see a new unwanted halloween costumes video! The market's always full of ridiculous crap.
The glasses don't bother me. It's the bed. I kept wanting to jump through the screen, shoo you away and make it. You're totally right about the Rich Guy Genre! Most of the time he's either dying or dead with a creepy lawyer reading his last will and testament. Check out the Twilight Zone episode, The Masks.
lol I like the messy bed it reflects the casual comfy style of the ramble videos
Try "Quatermass and The Pit"
I was wondering if you'd mentioned the descent. Isn't found footage, but the way it was filmed and the lighting really adds to the realism. it's really intense and gory and you might not like it cause of that but I thought it was extremely well made
Red Eye! Love that movie. I like horror where women aren't just a victim like that. I also liked Housebound, good if you're into seeing a disgusted looking woman punch ghosts. (Which I am.)
100% agree about the Dawn of the Dead remake. I didn't care much for the original either, but for me it was mostly because the makeup effects didn't really age well (the zombies are kind of just painted a weird green color). And yeah, I could've done without the zombie baby, it just made be think about that ridiculous scene from Dead-Alive. As for other George A. Romero remakes, I actually liked the Night of the Living Dead from the early 90's more than the original as well. I mean, it's kind of cheesy because of the overacting but I enjoyed it. The Day of the Dead remake with Nick Cannon, though? Oof, that one was absolutely terrible. It really only shared the name but was otherwise something completely different...and terrible.
The original Dawn of the Dead did have some OK use of theme, though, with "Why are these zombies in the shopping mall? They're just going through the motions of what used to matter," which is mirrored in the survivors trying on jewelry and eating with fancy tableware.
It’s more of a thriller/black comedy, but I’d say Cheap Thrills fits in the “rich person cooks up a sadistic game for poor people at a house party” genre. And instead of a creepily posh guy, the rich person is a partying David Koechner! Also, The Cloverfield Paradox isn’t good, but it is pretty fun. You might enjoy it, as long as you don’t go in expecting another 10 Cloverfield Lane
Aw man, speaking of horror "found footage"... Nightmare on Elm Street: New Nightmare filmed & used footage of the aftermath of the Northridge earth quake.
That... is that ok
House on Haunted Hill would be one of those crazy millionaire locks people in a house of horrors movies.
I will move to the States and become your bodyguard. I don't need a salary, I'll live on your doorstep and you can just throw me chips out the window.
I put together a list of some of my favorite small horror films the other year, I bet you'd like a lot of them: <a href="https://imgur.com/gallery/JyXgi" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://imgur.com/gallery/JyXgi</a>
The special features on the DVD for the Thir13en Ghosts remake absolutely RULED! They had little featurettes for all 13 ghosts explaining their backstories and how they died and the menu screen for it was all cool-looking and everything. I think those featurettes were about 90% of the reason why I liked that movie. I haven’t seen them since the DVD came out so I have no idea if they hold up but 12-year-old thought it was hella sick. Also, I REALLY miss those early days of DVDs when distributors would just pack every disc with whatever extra footage/documentaries/featurettes they had laying around and even create content specifically for the DVD. Major blockbuster releases still get them to a certain extant but I miss when that was just standard operating procedure for literally every movie that was released. The blu-ray for a crappy movie like Thir13en Ghosts wouldn’t have had nearly as much effort put into it today as it did for its DVD in 2002. Nowadays I’m lucky if a blu-ray comes with a deleted scene and feel like they went all out if it has a 5-minute “behind the scenes.”
Lol not proud to say that a friend and I pored over all those special features at a sleepover and were so impressed by them
Jenny, you like found footage and paranormal investigation shows, have you seen a movie called "Grave Encounters"? If not, from what you're saying, it seems up your alley.
Haven't seen that! will add it to the list
On a laptop in the woods sounds like the perfect way to watch the Blair Witch Project and World War Z is definitely not worth bothering with. If you liked the Babadook you might like Under the Shadow, a similar focus on an isolated woman and her relationship with her child.
World War Z is one of my favourite books, I've read and re-read it so many times. The movie has pretty much nothing in common with the book except the title and the quote about Israeli intelligence agencies (but it's a pretty great quote so of all the things to keep, it's a decent choice). If the movie didn't ruin such great potential, it would be just north of mediocre. As it is, though, I kinda hate it for ruining our chances at a genuinely good adaptation of World War Z.
Isn't House on Haunted Hill kind of an 'evil millionaire's sadistic dinner party' movie, just with a sleepover instead of a dinner party?
I'd say Clue perhaps falls in the same genre, along with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
For some reason the way giant Porg is lying on its back like that made me think it was gonna like pop up for a jump scare at some point. Even though I was expecting it I still would have screamed, so thanks for sparing me the heart attack!
Curious about the video, even though I've never watched a horror movie. Ever. Unless "The Gremlins" counts... Europa park is deffo on my list to visit someday. Right below efteling

I have it, since it's always recommended for people who spend a lot of time looking at screens, but my impression is it's supposed to cut down on me seeing a glare while looking through them (ie at a laptop in a dim room, or for driving at night). I don't think it affects their cosmetic appearance from the front
Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows is great! I’m glad someone finally said it. It’s one of my favs, too. I think Chris Stuckmann gave it an F. :-(
Woohoo
You gotta watch hereditary if you haven't seen it yet, absolutely terrifying.
I remember her saying on Twitter that she didn’t really care for it, thinking it really didn’t do anything satisfying with its themes and being bothered by the turn it takes halfway through.
What would I do without you, Jenny
Woooo
