The Spectacular Failure of the Star Wars Hotel

It's been two years, when will we get a standalone version of the credits song??
Love this
There is so much to say about this epic masterpiece of incisive critique. But the one takeaway that has stayed with me through multiple viewings is this: the people designing this hotel didn't understand Star Wars fans at all. The two things that really epitomize this for me are the lobby (or lack thereof) and the space windows. First, the lobby. As Jenny said, they likely decided against a lobby because they assumed that people's arrivals would naturally distribute across the very generous arrival window. Therefore, there would be a constant flow of guests and no one would ever have to wait. To this I say: Do they remember 1999? Because I do. When people were lining up for days just to buy tickets to "The Phantom Menace"? Not even to see the movie, mind you, but just to *buy tickets*? Star Wars fans show up *early*, and there was no reason to think they would behave any differently with the Starcruiser. They knew they were building the premiere Star Wars-related theme park attraction in the world--and they didn't think that Star Wars fans wouldn't arrive early? Second, the space windows. They are selling Star Wars fans the opportunity to visit and live in a world they have loved for potentially almost 50 years . . . and they think that they wouldn't want to fall asleep to a view of space? To see it if they get up in the middle of the night for the bathroom? Or have it be the first thing they see when they wake up in the morning? It's just . . . they do not understand Star Wars fans at all.
I'd say it's way more likely that the management and execs don't understand star wars fans; i can easily see plenty of the boots on the ground designers and actors and workers being like "...well what am i gonna do, tell them they're idiots?"
I just went to Disney for the first time ever. I’m 40 with an 8 and 5 year old. And I wholeheartedly agree with Jenny’s assessment at the end, we did this one trip, felt kinda bad about it and we will never return.

Jenny reviews “Worstworld”
With time to reflect I believe the failure can be pinned primarily on Disney not fully leaning in to luggage based game play. What if you could buy your own luggage on Alderaan? Discover that your luggage had accidentally been sent to Hoth? Negotiate with a scheming Luggage Broker on Tattooine? Get turned in to luggage in the under city of Coruscant in order to infiltrate the Luggage Fighting Pits? Finally be reunited with your luggage in front of the 400 waterfalls of Naboo. You can be together now. Is this a dream? No, this is Star Wars Hotel.
I was reading this, and some other funny comments on YouTube about the luggage smuggling, and it occurred to me how ironic it was that they kept coming back to that example, when smuggling luggage is about the *worst* thing you could ask guests to do. Because what security warning announcement do you hear or see over and over again in every airport (in the U.S. anyway--I haven't flown internationally in a long time, so I can't speak to those airports): Do not accept luggage from other passengers to carry on the plane, or items to put in your luggage to carry on the plane!!!!!!!!! Now, obviously, if they actually had implemented that story beat in the Starcruiser, with a cast member approaching a guest in the non-lobby and giving them something, it should have been pretty obvious that it was part of the story. The cast member would have been in costume, and they probably would have acted in an over-the-top way to show that it was part of the performance. But even then, I could see some people being hesitant. After all, some of the guest costumes that show up in the background of Jenny's footage seem to be at least as good, if not better, than the cast costumes. So people might be unsure whether the person they were dealing with was actually a cast member. And, someone who is a little more shy might be less willing to jump into gameplay right away, especially when doing so breaks one of the safety protocols that has been drilled into us over and over again since 9/11. Plus, then you might have parents who struggle to explain to little kids why talking to and taking things from strangers is ok in *this* situation, but still isn't in any other situations. Part of me wonders if this story idea came from out-of-touch Disney executives who haven't flown commercial in years . . . I do love your Hoth idea, though! They could have brought your bags to you with a Hoth airport sticker or luggage tag, or even dusted some fake snow on them!
This is high Art, it literally gets better every time I watch it. Amazing achievement
I'm sure I've already commented but somehow on my 100th rewatch I still have such strong opinions lol WHY did they build it in a random backstage parking lot??? And if that was inevitable- why not build it in the guest parking lot right outside the park and connect it to the park with an "exclusive" ride?? If its an issue of keeping their cars safe, lots of underground parking garages keep cars relatively safe with a fraction of disneys security presence. And the existing building already is questionable as for fire safety, so just lock the entry elevator to room key holders like most hotel elevators do now anyways (frustratingly). And having a new ride open to all guests would to make people feel better about the hotel, but à la rise of the resistance your hotel guests go a completely different route based on their story paths! Then you dont have to have a shuttle, you can justify the expense of a droid, you can do an emergency landing story, and when your terrible hotel fails you still have a new ride and can lazily generate buzz by allowing the existing special alternate routes into the general rotation. Personally I would pitch a mechanic where you can vote for which one the group does just to insert some palpatine/padame sass about democracy for the visitors being outvoted. And if youre worried about retheming the hotel to different eras, just make it more droid and spaceship oriented- its MY star wars adventure why do I need a count dooku to appear?? Why not pretend its just me, the 5 strangers I waited in line with, and my droid avoiding asteroids, scavengers, and space pirates in our space pod- thats all i want in life except a lightsaber but realistically you know you probably wont have the force. But thats the thing, its one of the only universes with a lot of non chosen one characters having agency and something interesting going on. I think thats a lot of the charm, why it feels so exciting and lived in. Boba fett isnt a chosen one (unless they ruined that since I last checked in), he's just a weirdly intense spartan warrior guy doing his best. Han solo isnt chosen, hes just some mediocre guy that acts gross to women. Leah is chosen, but it feels like she does her own thing in her own way instead of following a typical chosen one storyline, in a way that ultimately impacts the universe more than her brothers classic chosen one path. Now im just rambling about star wars. Give it back Disney, I don't like how youre playing with our Star Wars >:( I'd also make a star wars dolewhip counter. I dont know what the food would be, but definately incorporate a terrible app and a nightmarish experience where you have to plan ahead and preorder online. Its definately something frozen that suffers from sitting out in the sun for more than a minute. The menu is only accessible via qr codes, yes there are people at the counter, no they will not take your order or your money. Yes they just put the competed orders on a counter, and someone could probably easily just take one that isnt theirs by accident or on purpose. No you cant have a replacement unless you go through a tedious AI chatbot that doesn't understand anything about the human world. Really immerse people in the frustration of living on a run down mercenary hellhole planet where life is hard and unfair lol
Your videos are masterpieces.
Congratulations on the Hugo nomination!!
i remember this video came out the week that I had to sand, paint and varnish a cabinet in my living room for hours a day and having this video to listen to throughout (think I got through it twice) made it a way more fun experience than it should've been
If you watch Andrew Barth Feldman’s Starcruiser vlog, his Lenka and Wraithe kiss during the dinner show.
The amount of times l have watched this calm myself down when l'm going to sleep, it doesn't surprise me that it has 11 million views. I mean this as a deep compliment.
Genuinely wondering, how did zoning, fire, and safety codes allow this hotel to be built? I’ve done some work on hotels and apartment buildings around the US and generally buildings, regardless of use, that don’t have windows are really hard to get built. I’m not an expert and pretty early on in my career, but I have read hundreds (if not thousands) of pages of form based code/zoning and this feels like something that generally wouldn’t be allowed? Anyone have any info on this?
People have said in the comments on youtube that they had fire escapes accessible from the hallways, it was just the private hotel rooms that didn't have direct access to the outside. And that was solved with the "shame closets" which are ventilated and considered safe enough to be an alternative. I don't work in this field at all but I do believe Disney wouldn't be stupid enough to blatantly break basic safety regulations like that, so that explanation makes sense to me.
I've been a long time watcher/subber since around maybe before the TLJ days, watched you on yer own channel and yer own show Millennial Falcon... I have been on and off of Jenny's content because she doesn't upload much on YT for years, but that Galactic Starcruiser video blew up and I was back again. Now I am a patreon subber!
Even better the second time through
This is a masterpiece. Seriously.
Best 4 hour video I’ve ever seen!
I asked Chris Provost, from Provost Park Pass, if he'd seen Jenny's video. He had nothing but praise for her, here's the Youtube clip. https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxY6NfRPZWobg5-El33PgTtxdE8zGVrFt1?si=C3dNpBUm-edPsz7E
Amazing video, I’ve probably seen the entire thing 25 times now
Really holds up to repeated viewings!
I just heard that Disney is going after Jenny with copyright claims. Disney, you're gonna have to go through all of us first, we support Jenny 100%. Bob Iger you're a bad car!
Are you trying to say "You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us. "?
I will pay you $300 for a shirt with your “uncritical review” picture on it. XL
Something I'd love to see if it would be fun for you would be an amethea tope video. Like fully as her, whatever type of vids she makes. Reminds me of some of the shorter vids you've made
I second this. Amethia Tope is my new favorite Star Wars character. Glad they finally accepted skippy into cannon ;)
A friend told me you are name dropped in this Star Wars Acolyte review video at 6:41. Apparently there is a Zygerrian Jedi that looks a little like you. 😂 https://youtu.be/HPk4nEROZFw?si=bZRM4VeDeW3OsUrk
I've enjoyed your videos before but this is the one I knew I'd have to subscribe for, so comprehensive and it was nice to see what could have been for such a large Star Wars venture. I really wish they hadn't fucked it up and had a way more reasonable price point cuz the potential was so there!
Glad to see this video making waves! Jenny's been toiling at it for literal years.
This is where it all began! Took me a week to finish watching this video on YouTube, and another to scroll through all the other videos there, before I finally found this patreon channel. I’m obsessed with Jenny now 🤣
Loved hearing Matt Rogers from Las Culturistas shout out the video yesterday!! He’s a big Disney theme park guy so I thought this would cross his radar and he only had glowing things to say. On my first of what I can only assume will be many rewatches of this masterpiece.
Coming back yet again to comment another thought: if your information on the was tied to your legal identification what were the staff to do if that isn’t the name you go by? You mentioned they completely stonewalled you when you tried to go by Amethia, and the footage showed the computers listed you as Jennifer, I assume if you introduce yourself as Jenny they can connect the dots but would they do that for someone with a legal name that was obviously different? That strikes me as an uncomfortable situation for trans guests who haven’t changed their name or gender marker legally. I know a lot of trans Star Wars fans who would have been in the ideal demographic for this it just feels like another oversight on their part.
Now you mention it that does feel like an oversight. iirc I changed my profile in the Play app to say Amethia Tope (I can't remember but it'll be in the footage of the chat threads if so). but then all the screens in the actual ship said Jennifer, so there wasn't a foolproof way to change your name on the digital side of things As for what the characters call you I have no idea. I've been told by people that the actors get your name from earpieces and been told from other people that they definitely don't and just learn it irl. So it's all speculation. I don't think any actor ever referred to me by any name but that could just be because they didn't interact with me enough to remember it, so I don't have any firsthand evidence
So I had been telling my mom about this from like...the day Jenny posted the vlogs and thru all the updates bc it's exactly the kind of topic that fascinates her and even sent her the link but she didn't actually watch it. But she just texted me the nytimes article and said....oh now i need to go watch the video you were telling me about which is honestly thrilling
Congratulations Jenny, what a triumph! ♥️♥️♥️
holy shit - a new york times article about this?!?!!!????!! https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/07/movies/jenny-nicholson-disney-star-wars-hotel-review.html?smid=url-share
I literally came back to mention that lol. I dunno if she's been mentioned in major media like this before but yeah it feels pretty big lol
the one's going in the library of congress i already know it
Man carrying thing did a skit about it https://youtu.be/InlASbjYYeg
If the starcruiser had the same dessert as the Pandora park- would that imply that the world of pandora exists within the Star Wars universe, and moreover the star cruiser stopped there at some point?!
I feel bad for the current Disney Imagineers. They spend all this time developing amazing ideas for guests, only to have it all shot down for budget reasons, leaving thousands of people disappointed by the projects they poured their hearts into. I would bet that lots of imagineers chose to work at Disney because of some good experience with the company, maybe even as a kid. Imagine growing up with the Kim Possible game at Epcot and tons of animatronics and all the “magic” of Disney only to dedicate your career to projects that never fully come to fruition.
I'm now in love with Ouannii. I've been a fan for a long time but had no idea about your Patreon, somehow, so I'm glad this video brought me here. And what a great video! Thanks for sharing the trip and your thoughts.
i’m so happy this video helped bring you even a fraction of the attention you’ve always deserved. you’re my favorite youtuber!
This video was how I found your channel and I've been bingeing all your content. 10/10.
BRAVO! I'm so happy for you Jenny. You didn't settle for second best and it worked! YOUR VIDEO IS FIRE!
Jenny you absolutely HAVE to see Sleep No More in NYC. It is a roaming character dance show based on Macbeth with mind blowing world building, set in an entirely themed, fully explorable hotel. I made a trip out there just to watch it and it was worth it. In terms of theming and interactivity, it’s what the Star Wars hotel should have been.
Congratulations on having this 4 hour video go viral!
Is she making a Patreon exclusive video this month?
What a mesmerising video! Having rewatched this and ’An Excruciatingly Deep Dive into the Avatar Theme Park’ and ’Star Wars Land: An Excruciatingly In-Depth Prequel’ I can see why the decision to try this kind of ”immersive” experience instead of just a themed hotel made sense on paper. Let’s make it physically impossible for guests to go to the competitor by making the actual building as inconvenient to come-and-go as possible and filling up the schedule to the point guests have mini break-downs due exhaustion. And let’s not make this bundle a deal of any sort either… But no one can call it a half-day park for the very least
The discussion at the end about people getting tired of being nickle-and-dimed by a huge and unbelievably wealthy and powerful company like Disney really resonated with me. I think that some other companies are dealing with similar levels of sentiment because they're essentially just making their products worse over time, because they can squeeze a little more money out of them that way. I work in tech and one thing that I bring up a probably annoying amount is the concept of the Trust Thermocline*. It's essentially the idea that a company can do a lot of things that individually don't really seem that bad or damaging, and don't really produce much reaction, but are still damaging their user's relationship with and emotional investment in the product, service, or brand. They do this a little bit every year, and then one day they make another small change to squeeze out a little more money, and their user base collapses and their product is totally abandoned and now they're heading for bankruptcy. Essentially, people will put up with something that they don't even like anymore for a wide variety of reasons, and they won't stop using it or shopping there or whatever until they *hate* it. And once they hate it they're not coming back, and they're taking other people with them when they leave. People make jokes about the Costco CEO threatening to kill the exec who tried to make the hotdogs more expensive, but honestly? He has the right idea. Sometimes you have to be happy merely making "a ton of money" instead of "all of the money", if you want to keep people coming back. I could easily see Disney continuing down this path and getting to the point where people don't just dislike their business practices but actively hate them. I completely agree with your analysis of the theme parks getting more expensive for guests for worse experiences, and it feels like they are playing a very dangerous game that they don't really understand.
This is such a great point. I'm currently restructuring my entire workflow to decouple from Adobe suite because I Am DONE. I swallowed the change from paid to subscription, then the increased prices until one day the program wouldn't load up my latest batch of raw files. No reason for it and Adobe wouldn't help me. Computer is fine, files aren't corrupted it just didn't work. Something snapped in me and that was it. I'm moving all my projects off AS and even though it's a huge pain and is going to take a solid week of work, I'm happy I'm doing it. If there are more and more people leaving AS (and that's a system that people rely on for their living!) Disney would be wise to mind its current strategies. How much more lightning lane, lost bought droids and dinner show poles before other people, en masse, start thinking 'you know what- eff this'? There's hints that that time is swiftly approaching. When people like Dalin (Offhand Disney) starts to turn negative toward them should be a canary the size of Texas in the coalmine. Disney Dan made a video about how he might not go to D23 because of the price increases and nickel and diming. Disney. Dan. I've always been more along the Disney does some stuff ok and some stuff crap- but these two guys? If they're getting a sour taste then Disney is seriously in trouble.
You are the Andy Rooney of your generation 🎤 I found about you and your work in a totally random way switching Sirrus XM radio stations hearing from a DJ mentioning this genius 4 hour video essay then Google searched found a CNN article about you and found you on YouTube and finally fastened our seat belts for the watch and all we can say is you are a truly talented person and I am proud to be your patron here is more 💰 go forth and create more fucking amazing content 🫶🏼
I appreciate how efficiently and effectively you captured my exact same feelings on Disney Parks as a corporation at the end. The amount of upcharging, paywalls, and nickel-and-diming felt borderline predatory during my recent visit to the parks. Takes visitors and families completely out of the magic that was originally intended.
Jenny's Galactic Starcruiser Predictions ramble video from shortly before she went on the trip is a good one to revisit or watch for the first time now after seeing the full video. Watching it with knowledge of how the trip would actually go is both funny and a little sad. https://www.patreon.com/posts/bonus-galactic-63326249
Great video, if too kind to a genuinely terrible experience. Your energy really invites commiseration. Excited for more content! I would think that the "Worth it?" section as an abbreviated video would also be phenomenal as a stand-alone - directly tackling terrible theme park-fluencer ethics.
omg those dumplings in a variety of colors look amazing
Glad Jenny is getting her flowers for this. I can listen to her nerd out about any topic.
ROLLING STONE INTERVIEW https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/jenny-nicholson-star-wars-hotel-video-youtube-1235028823/
So strange how we all quickly forgot and excused Disney of their original promise of the Galaxy’s Edge immersive experience to its customers. Great video!
As a veeeeery casual fan of star wars, I like when the robots go boop, I think it's amazing that you have made me so knowledgeable of this franchise. I would listen to you talk about almost anything. Also I am so thankful that you have a strong sense of integrity and compassion and I get a big kick out of you calling out all the smarmy douches. Why can't you be president?!
Killer job, Jenny! Worth the wait and deserving all of the attention and acclaim
BRO THIS IS IN FORBES!!!!!!
So glad the literal years of work you've put in to this has paid off, you deserve all the plaudits you're getting :)
Might get lost in my big comment but please release the gaya haterade parody song as a stand alone mp3, its so very good. Its a bop!
Already watched it twice
Did anyone else do the Starfleet Academy Experience back in 2016? It was so well done, the games were simple but fun, the sets were great (especially the Bridge) and your ‘assignment’ at the end (Command, Medical, Security etc) was clearly related to how you did on the interactive elements. Plus it only cost $25! I hope they bring it back at some point.
yes i did!!! i even have a lanyard from it that i got at the giftshop afterwards. it was so much fun lol
I am sure you saw, but you are in Forbes!!!
This is why I’m here :)
this is a gooooood one. I mean, they all are, but this is a new fav. instant classic.
When I started watching this, I planned to split it up and watch it across a few nights. Before I knew it, I had watched the entire thing. Brilliant work.
Yeah same lmaoooo
who's gonna be the first con attendee to dress as the galactic starcruiser pole
They’ll sell you the costume in the parks but they won’t let you wear it there
Too many comments for me to see if this was already said, but the doc has been added to Letterboxd! You’re on Letterboxd Jenny!
Automatic 5 stars
Congratulations on the immense success of this video!!!
Finally got to finish the video. Congrats, Jenny, what a masterpiece. Equal parts review, documentary, and travel vlog, you nail every bit of the experience and boil down what works and what doesn't. My sister and I, during our trip, were having a good time but we kept mentioning to each other things that honestly should have been included given the original price and you nailed it with the Disney penny pinching and nickle and diming aspect. There are only a few things which seem "luxury" about your luxury star cruiser adventure. I was amazed at how much truly went wrong on your trip. Surely someone at Disney had to realize they were screwing over a big time youtuber?! And even if you weren't, someone had to realize that for any average guest that experience would be awful! Also by way of for instance, I also got the SK droid and I only opened him up after I got home from Florida and his little domed head doesn't move correctly to the left. Disney customer service basically blew me off and I don't have 1 million follows to post about on twitter so I just got a janky droid now. Disney has really stopped caring about the "magic" of the customer experience. But jokes on them I stole one of the blankets and they didnt charge me for it. I'm sad that the hotel is dead for now and won't likely get a chance to address the concerns, but I am happy that there is such a definitive expose on the experience so it won't get brushed over by the ravages of time. I was not shocked, but do find it funny, the level of disney ass covering astroturfing is out there right now trying to discredit this video. You really nailed it and struck a nerve. Final thoughts on this video: Your costumes are amazing and I was blown away by the full on haterade gaya song parody. It actually slaps, can we get that as a stand alone Mp3 download?
If anyone in a high tier is looking for inspiration for future Patreon poll options, I’m sure would all love something like “Jenny answers FAQs from after the video/responds to common disagreements/tells us about things she wanted to say but got cut for time”!
I’d also be keen for a ramble on Amethia Tope’s influencer career I just know Skippy has one of those in character pet Instagrams.
Such a great video - I sat through the entire video and was hoping it’d be longer! You are so articulate, detailed and honest ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Excellent as both documentary and cultural criticism. Forensic, detailed, compelling and persuasive. I joined this Patreon after, but that's only because I hadn't realised you *had* a patreon, or I'd have joined much earlier.
Glenn Weldon of NPR wrote an article on you and this video :)
Stellar
This video was such an experience, i was glued to the screen all 4 hours, i had to come check out the patreon
So the media has officially declared Jenny an "Influencer". I expect sub prices will go up now she has finally achieved the power she has been craving. I hope she uses her influence more wisely than Obi Wan...if those were the droids the stormtroopers were looking for it would have saved everyone a lot of trouble.
Jenny telling us about the main attractions of the Starcruiser while dressed as a giant porg is surely one of her greatest triumphs.
Excellent video, it's like a mini little documentary. Super fascinating and detailed breakdown.
M-m-mini?
I don’t want to discuss how many times I’ve rewatched this video but I love listening to you while I’m driving for work or doing something at home! And now I’m here. So much content. I feel truly blessed 💀💀
Right?! I'm at 5x myself but I'm sure those are rookie numbers!
Great video. What a shame Disney makes so many choices…
Was almost expecting you to say 8 hours into day 2 you looked down at your phone and saw you’d gotten a text from Wraith Cole or whoever that you needed to look for unsettled dirt or some shit. This is all such nonsense lmao.
I love a lot about the Disney parks and the last section of this video perfectly sums up everything I find frustrating about them. Incredible work all around.
Watch the Star Wars Hotel video and just checked patreon stats and noticed you climbing to the top of the video category! Currently second place in the video category and ninth place in the paid creators top list! So joined to help you climb to the very top!
I know it's probably a long way off but now I'm dying to know what's next on the schedule, this one was so worth the wait
Joined this patreon SIMPLY because of watching this video on YouTube. Absolutely phenomenal stuff. And needed to support it!
This is a masterpiece!
Fantastic video! As much as it made me laugh I also felt so awful for your experience considering how up your alley this would be if everything went as it should. Happy to support on patreon and congratulations on the success, it's very well deserved!
I have NO idea why I watched 4 hours about this. I dont have much interest in Star Wars or them parks. Then I end up watching another 3 hour video about another rediculous themepark. And another video from this girl and now I am supporting on Patreon... I am entertained and captivated about topics I really have no interest in. #shrug
Next on your watchlist: https://youtu.be/ZK4gM7RC1M0?si=VQa9B88Hdh8O7fAq
I'd love but doubt we'll ever get a breakdown of how the hotel's game system was supposed to work. Is Jenny right and it backfills people into the tracks to balance them out? It's a tough problem to do and I'd love to hear how it's meant to go even if it's just the idealized version just to know how it was breaking down.
New to the Patreon and also Jenny in general. It's great to find something amazing that you'd never heard of before. Happy brand new supporter and fan. Keep up the good work.
I'm exactly the same! This was my first of Jenny's videos and I've since already watched the whole Evermore trilogy! I'm addicted.
What r some good Star Treck themed parks or experiences?
As predicted there’s some hate for the video in main stream outlets. It would be cool to hear a little reaction of some of the negative backlash (from people who mostly didn’t see the full video) on here
Everyone who is subbed here knows that Jenny puts a lot of effort into presenting unbiased and independent reviews. Her integrity isn't for sale. Even when the subject is close to her heart we know that she will give an honest opinion. People who are new to her work might not be aware of this. The main reason I am subbed is to help an honest reviewer remain independent...and the fact that she is a comedy genius.
Did you see the screen rant article? 💀
Super great video, thank you for making it!!
I love the ending credits song cover, the lyrics are on point 😂
after watching the vlogs multiple times and the previews before this, i wasnt surprised this video is so good and really well paced for a 4 hour video, what is surprising to me is the amount of discourse it has caused especially among ppl that dont watch jenny. like its really wild to see honestly esp the ppl that are dismissive of jenny as just a youtuber when she is actually rly credible with being a theme park fan/former cast member. i wonder if just the time between uploads or the seo on star wars made this video hit in the right way but just insane how much reach this video essay is getting. also the porg costume rly took me out, wasnt expecting that at all and hope the dialogue was just put in as adr over gesticulating in a porg costume.
And the physicality of talking in the Porg costume, hilarious.
Another great video... snatching victory from the jaws of disappointment! That Porg costume-change almost killed me though (choking on my water).
will there be a sequel to the galaxy's edge video now?
She’s said in a previous ramble that there won’t be. She listed what would have been her main talking points in a thread on twitter and she’s said that the Star Wars hotel video is the spiritual successor to galaxy’s edge
So having just completed Baldur’s Gate 3 and getting to exist in this immersive world where my choices actually affected the outcome, what characters thought of me, what I had access to, etc (all in my living room mind you, but hey at least I had headphones) I got the sense that this is somewhat what the Imagineers envisioned. It’s so disappointing to think that a several thousand dollar experience couldn’t deliver something more engaging or effective than a $50 game.
Sooooooooo true and well put like I’m begging y’all to play a video game
Next time I run a Star Wars tabletop game, I'm working your Coruscant influencer in as an NPC somewhere
A handful of years ago now, in a D&D game my husband used to run with our friend group, he made sure the NPC we bought horses from at a ranch was recognizable to me as being Jenny. He often made NPCs with references to things I liked, but that was maybe the cutest one!
Now featured on CNN!
Also NBC https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/internet/disney-world-star-wars-hotel-youtube-video-jenny-nicholson-rcna153600
This was such a good video, 4 hours long, but never gets boring, never repetitive, it's so well researched and thought-through, doesn't miss a single point or aspect and keeps you focused the whole time. I never felt like I didn't know what was going on (saying this as someone mostly unfamiliar with theme parks in general and Disney) and it was a rollercoaster of emotions in a way. Not huge emotions, but my opinion swayed back and forth the whole video, and at the end I felt like I really had a fair picture of it. I felt I could both appreciate all the things I would've liked about the hotel, and knew what wouldn't like about it. Hats off to one of the best videos so far!
omg, jenny, if it continues being possible for you, PLEASE keep putting "TL;DW" songs in the credits. this one made my whole day. great vid as always
I have a guess about what happened with the questlines given not matching with the ones you completed, and I think it lies with the fact that Disney knows their own quests may not complete. If they only rely on completions to give out the next quest they run the risk of bugs hampering forward progression in that questline and requiring support intervention. As a result they consider every handed out quest to be valid and potentially complete when determining which quest to assign next. Maybe they have something different and it just doesn't work. Coming from a software background, what I don't understand is how their algorithm determined weighting on who was given a quest as this seems like a pretty easily solved problem. Logically, completed quests should be prioritized over incomplete quests. Even when determining a balance of attendees for each new quest you can use basic weights to prioritize next quest assignments. A lot of this could have been solved with an extremely simple, "Which questline do you want to follow?" question near the beginning of the hotel stay to establish prioritization further. Plenty of games do this in subtle or obvious ways and no one cares. It's not immersion breaking to specify the kind of experience you want to enjoy. instead so many people were frustrated by what appeared as the game ignoring guest decisions.
Now CNN is reporting it https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/23/travel/star-wars-hotel-disney-jenny-nicholson-cec/index.html
That article is much more substantive than I was expecting, but it's very frustrating that it only very briefly summarizes Jenny's complaints about the Star Wars hotel specifically and doesn't communicate her arguments that it represents a trend of Disney nickel-and-diming all over their parks. Before then moving on to several short paragraphs of Disney ad copy at the end of the article, of course. Come on, CNN.
i'm convinced the video took so long because of the elaborate costume changes throughout. and you know what? worth it. especially the porg outfit.
I'm currently watching another Starcruiser Vlog and one thing Jenny didn't mention is that in the scene were the First Order Officer video-calls the Halcyon during bridge training, the video call is just a pre-recorded video running at a fixed speed. So if the captain doesn't say her lines quickly enough, he cuts her off at the end of her sentence in a super awkward way. This happened multiple times in the video I watched so I feel like they didn't even adjust the video to the captains lines but just expected her to say them at the right speed. I can understand them not wanting to pay an extra actor to make a zoom call, but it would've been super easy to just give captain a hidden button to press after each of her lines that triggers the FO guy to play his answer (they could've recorded and idle loop for the FO guy and hid the cuts to the answers behind video glitches or UI elements popping up.)
Sounds like the bridge training details are different depending on time slot so not everyone is going to see the call. If you check the starcruiser vlog footage videos there's no sign of it afaict. And big yike on not allowing the live actor to adapt!
If I'm ever falsely accused of murder and my defense somehow hinges on Disney Parks and Their Problems, I would absolutely call Jenny as the foremost authority on this subject as my expert witness.
I keep thinking about this guy at work who told me that the star wars hotel is 100% worth it and I have to go before it closes
Kevin Defunctland went on a second gate episode of PTR to talk about the Disney Cruises in House entertainment and they had a Star Wars Night with drinks and games that sounded suspiciously similar to Starcruiser. They had the Newlywed game and the drinks and food had to be all Star Wars themed for that night only.
Jenny, I’m sure you’re aware of this, but it seems people are trashing the Star Wars hotel on other people’s channels. Ordinary Adventures in particular. I finally got through this video though, loved it! Sucks that the gameplay didn’t work out, after seeing it work for other people, seemed pretty fun. I don’t know if it’s for me, but the actors hearts were in it for sure.
I subbed after the Evermore video so this is the first time I've been privy to background knowledge about a main channel video! I feel like a VIP guest
I did apply to galactic starcruiser while i was DCP. i didnt make it but i wish i did, i would have all the tea. But in the moment i likely would have bwen damn miserable trying to make a sinking ship work. Custodian was chill and low stakes and i would have been stressed AF as a roamer.
YAYAYAY!! STAR WARS HOTEL EPISODE 2!!
I appreciate you always standing up for labor workers and against capitalism. Owners never treat their staff as well as they should.
I looked up Jenny Nicholson's birthday in the secret language of birthday's network (astrology site) and those born on her day are called the 'Articulate Unpredictable Fate' and they travel 'The Path of the Articulate Enigma' ... it's too accurate...
Mine is apparently "the confident unsolicited opinion" lol it just called me "Mansplaining: The Person"
Really liked this video, thanks Jenny :)
watched this, then started binge watching all your other videos!! your content is amazing, instantly downloaded patreon to subscribe to you
I feel like Spirit Airlines should be paying you for the kindest and most unbiased breakdown of their services ever provided.
immediately subscribed to the patreon after watching this, nobody does it like jenny nicholson fr
I was hoping you had bought the "Ouannii hat" on Etsy or something. Now I must make it on my own for Halloween because Ouannii is my new favorite Star Wars character!
Can you make one for my wife too?
literally amazing. downloaded patreon for the first time after i watched this
“yas, kimberly!”
So proud to see our Kimberly is force sensitive
this video is so great :):) you did such an amazing job! this video feels like exactly the inverse level of engagement of staring at a pole
jenny, i’ve been subbed to you since your beastly video and it’s crazy to see how much your channel and videos have grown. congrats on all the success and thanks again for the incredible video….totally worth the wait. 🩷
Jenny you are a star. I’m so glad we all get to enjoy your work
This is an amazing video! I really appreciate the care and detail in all aspects— the costumes, the script, the sources, the callback jokes, the song, everything!! Well worth the wait. Did you talk to any cast members about their experience working, or have any commented? I’m sure they have ironclad NDAs but it would be interesting to hear from them about what it was like!
Sammy has Gamer/Youtuber/Live streamer for children vibes. like he is just a Mr. Beast insert for the kids.
Absolutely phenomenal
The water bowl for Skippy is amazing
Great video! You really covered everything!
subscribed because of this video. amazing work, i really enjoyed it.
sorry to triple-post, but can we celebrate two million views in two days? I subbed to the channel around the bronycon video so it was already pretty established, but it's been wild to see the growth.
Incredible work - I could hardly believe it when I saw the video title in my inbox, it felt like Christmas!!
it sucks that customers were/are getting bullied by disney fans for talking about their negative experiences, but it's unsurprising in hindsight that these people are experiencing the Tesla Owner Effect when faced with criticism of an overpriced and lackluster experience
So I’m on a fair number of Disney pages on Facebook and this video has gone like wildfire. Anyone who seems to have watched it thinks it’s great, but there are a number of ‘fans’ that are being total jerks about it.
Damn Jenny went IN on this one. This feels like a cogent summation of her building frustrations with Disney over the years.
Just finished the video and congrats Jenny!! I know it took a long time but it came out really well. Also the end credits song is great, and I enjoy seeing all these costume pieces that you’ve sewn yourself!! (Skippy’s captain hat is stupidly cute) the giant porg costume made me yell. 10’s all around.
The credit song slaps! Need it clipped to its own video
The cheapest and best way to experience what they initially announced for Galaxy's Edge is to get the DLC for The Sims 4, your sims get to dress up and form alliances and meet loads of characters
Plus, you get a pretty nice stone floor 😉
I almost did a spit-take at "the very first time a luxury cruise ship has ever been symbolic of the hubris of man". This whole thing was excellent, and also depressing because there is absolutely a world in which Disney could have mostly pulled off what was promised, but that would require not cutting costs at every corner. It really feels like we're in an untenable period of corporate greed here, and something has got to give. But alas, Disney is likely one of the 'too big to fail' companies out there, simply because they're able to play on our nostalgia and claim a monopoly on "essential kid experiences".
IM THE KING OF THE WORLD --some disney exec, probably
I would die for Skippy😐 Also, great video. Much watch ❤️
So what I am getting is, that the shitty Sims4 Star Wars DLC is the only product that actually delivered on the promise of playing your star wars journey 😯
It's also interesting how it was a totally different target audience, yet the response was the same: who wants this?
As someone who’s always hated Disney as a company but always found the parks fascinating at the very least, I think it’s telling when even someone who was once heavily detracted as a “Disney shill” is resorted to making a 5 hour video verbally destroying their product and damning the company. I bet every day since the 20th Century Fox acquisition, Iger has been filled with anger and regrets. Wonderful work on the video, beautifully detailed as always!
2 MILLION VIEWS!!
Amazing Work
Seeing this kind of stuff makes me appreciate Sleep No More, it turns out there are really good ways to do this sort of thing!
I’m so glad I got to experience Sleep No More when it was around. Truly the most unique entertainment experience I’ve ever had AND I can safely say it was worth the money. If I lived in NYC, I would have factored it into my household budget to go at least once every few months.
Yooo The Prestige reference !
Are you watching closely?
So I worked the opening of Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland (marketing team) and the day before it opened they handed us this MASSIVE stack of cards that said personality traits (Cunning, Kind, Smart, etc) on one side and on the back had corresponding factions: Resistance, Smuggler, First Order. And we NEVER knew what they were for. And the finale of this pretty much explained that they bailed on that aspect at the last second.
Maybe 3/4s in after two days, quick question, and I'm sure it's been asked or brought up before, but has anyone reached out to you for help on a theme park, or would you ever be interested in working with Disney to try and help fix their problems at the parks? I guess the clear issue is upper management wanting to cut costs, which seems to be an issue across every corporation from, tech, cars, and entertainment. But I was curious if it was something you'd be interested in, because I'd love to go to a theme park or attraction that you oversaw. You always make great points bound within reality!
1:06:15 Me, waiting for Sammy's soulful ballad about feeling bad about helping the First Order
Good stuff :)
Nice!
Incredible video, I love finally seeing the finished version.
Go you! Must feel great to finally have it done and published. Super happy for you, congrats ❤️❤️
Ouannii has Alyson Stoner from Camp Rock energy when she's playing her alien instrument, big fan
Omg you're spot on with this!!!!!
But did the floors try to electrocute you when you got out of bed? They really do look like the prison cells from Andor. 😂 (Andor is seriously well written by the way—and it’s on dvd now, so you could borrow it and watch it without benefiting Disney in any way! 🥹 I really think you’d love it even though it is a prequel to your least favorite movie)
They should have crashed the starcruiser into a space iceberg on the final voyage
The simple power of Jenny's charisma! I never even knew there was a Star Wars hotel, let alone that it was shut down...and yet seeing a vid about it in my YouTube recs (plus a reminder that Patreon Jenny content existed)? Now I am both fully in-the-know, and a happy Patreon subscriber!
I would love to know if you've been to/your thoughts on the Willows or Sleep No More? Those were both experiences cited as references for the Galactic Starcruiser during its development. A lot of the interactive concepts in GS seem to play out in these experiences a little more fully.
i've already watched twice LOL it's so good
Great video! But after so much Evermore and Starcruiser content, I hope the next monthly poll someone adds “Jenny’s Favorite Immersive Experiences” so we can hear her rave about some good examples after so many bad examples.
I really enjoyed her patreon ramble where she designs her own immersive hotel experiences! :)
Chewbacca is getting arrested behind that pole.
It was an honor to be here for the culmination of the video! Your hard work paid off! Cheers!
Fantastic. I watched it in two sittings and it went down so smooth. A portentous take on the future of creativity within the house of mouse. Thanks so much for all your hard work.
Jenny tearing apart Disney to promote her Patreon is god tier marketing ✨
Love how a bunch of the comments over on YouTube are all, "Jenny's back!" and "It's been so long!" It's got me thinking... if the resistance had just joined Palpatine's Patreon at "Sith Cultist" level (it's only 2 creds a months, smh) there would've been no "Somehow" to his return. Dude was making planet-killers on the regular over there, y'all been missing out! Anyway, amazing video, extremely well-written and well-researched!
Jenny this was wonderful!! I can't believe it was four hours, it absolutely flew by. I loved how your analysis was thoughtful, intelligent, compassionate, and scathing just as it needed to be. I always appreciate how your critique of theme parks considers both practical and creative aspects. I can't believe they designed an experience where you spend so much time on your phone and then the stuff you do on your phone doesn't even interact with the "immersive" environment you're stood in. I feel like "cashing in on brand loyalty + miserly budget-driven decisions" has been a feature of Disney's cinematic output for a while, and it's sad to hear it's happening in the parks as well. PS the porg getup was amazing but the Ouannii hat is still my favourite!!
I agree!! I really appreciate how Jenny's critiques are both insightful and compassionate, but also razor-sharp, direct, and witty -- especially when roasting Disney 😄 I'm picky about Youtubers since a lot of them can feel too rude, crass and negative for me, but Jenny is one of the few I'd gladly listen to for 4 hours, lol!
Two things: On my sailing of the Starcruiser Lenka and Raithe do have a romance as well as Sandro and Ouannii! We were part of a group that actively encourage Lenka to see Raithe in a new light, and then they have a big old smooch at the end. So I honestly am glad that the story isn’t exactly the same every time. As for the video, you might want to blur out the face of the man in the footage you used to showcase a concierge room on a Disney Cruise Line ship. He’s Pete Werner and has been let go as one of the leads of Dreams Unlimited (and they rebranded their VLog) after a bunch of former and current employees came forward that he was sexually harassing/molesting them as well as mistreating other employees. I figured you’d want to know so as to not show HIS face in a video you so carefully edited.
Respectfully, I don't really see the point in blurring someone's face for this reason. Someone's face being in some footage means nothing, we don't need to pretend he never existed.
I know the hotel is closed but it would be FASCINATING to see if any of Jenny’s observations made an impact on operations.
Great vid! Super well done, especially the conclusions at the end. Regarding roaming character actors and the cantina, are you familiar with the Star Trek experience Las Vegas had in the 90s? It's pretty clear someone at Disney got inspired by that in creating RotR and SW land. But it was also a perfect example of free-roaming alien actors. You could visit a bar from the TV show and an alien might randomly sit next to you. You might get comments on the 'silly human food' or just in-character small-talk! Watching videos of it really made me sad for what we could've had in Star Wars land.
The Star Trek Experience was everything to me as a young geek. I'm so bummed I missed out on the borg mission.
This is absolutely incredible. We all know how much time was spent on this project, and it turned out to be absolutely amazing! Thank you for going through all this work for us!
I got a weird scolding from a Disney Influencer when I called it a "hotel." Thank you for not being pretentious and just calling "Star Wars Land" and "Star Wars Hotel" what they are.
I love every part of this video so much but am commenting to shout out the Efteling reference in themed hotel room part!!
What I love about your videos is that it’s pointed out the clear hypocrisy of the travel and food “review” influencers and how they are bought and paid for. They get a completely different experience than the average person and for FREE so the bias is built in. I wish more people made videos like you, I’ve only seen Bright Sun Travels which pay for their own trips making everything really objective their reviews of the Disney hotels and cruises is really enlightening. You should check them out
Omg between Jake's straightforward, fact-based perspective and Jenny's creative expertise that would be a great crossover.
It kills me how you were SO RECEPTIVE and so open to the experience but Disney kept letting you down at every single turn. Like who was this even FOR?
I havent laughed more at a Jenny video. Top tier stuff.
Your video is featured in a news email I got this morning!! I dunno why that seems monumental to me, but I thought it was cool at least!
wonderful video. my conspiracy theory is that Disney always planned for the hotel to fail to get that tax write-off, or at least planned for it very early on. Why else would they spare so much expense at every turn of the experience? In design school Disney is always brought up for its use of sightlines. It seems extremely out of character for them to design a venue with seats like the one you got.
They wouldn’t make money doing that. A tax write off only reduces your taxable income—so if your tax rate is 30%, and you spend $100, you can write off $100 to save $30 on taxes, but you’re still out $70.
I loved it!
It wasn't much of a cruise ship But they all said that it's more than a hotel And when I heard it's immersive Well I guess for some that might've been a harder sell [👽🎶] I pack my bags for Walt Disney World I line up up up in the Florida sun Baby, here I come Oooh, Galactic Cruiser Come on let's go for a tour [👽🎶] Oooh, not much to do here Eatin' and hackin' computers [👽🎶] Got me feelin' like a troubleshooter. Up in the morning Scannin' crates outside in the pouring rain The app is broken Just keep trying 'til you get into the cargo bay It was a short-lived spectacle Only eighteen months They takin' that whole thing offline I guess they cruised too close to the sun Oooh, Galactic Cruiser CEO came out a loser [👽🎶] Oooh, the plan fell through here Didn't quite make it to two years [👽🎶] But that won't stop the internet reviewers (Cruiser! Cruiser!) Alright everybody, put your hands in the air. Even you guys behind the pole! I assume you're back there. (Cruiser! Cruiser! Costs over $5k!) The price got higher Not to mention the bonus fees And then they fired All the blameless employees The price went higher Ooh higher Ooh the price went higher Write it off so they still get paid
Thx!
AMAZING
On my second rewatch I connected the line about the titanic to the line about cruise ships representing hubris at the very end... the perfect bookends.
boy do I feel dumb now
Would you rather: Theme Park Quality edition. Imagine a world where both Evermore and the Star Wars hotel were fully built with all things and experiences promised. But you could only choose to do one of them. Which would it be? I’d probably pick Evermore.
Hard choice. Would like an interstitial zone between the two where you can hang out with both sides. Makes me think of that Home Movies episode where the scifi convention attacks the renn faire.
I would love for Jenny to play the sims 4 star wars pack... it's exactly what the executives thought that the park was going to be (still not good)
In a comment on the main video, I actually compared Disney's treatment of Galaxy's Edge to EA's treatment of the Sims IP. Taking everything interesting designers came up with during the initial design process and putting it behind DLC, leaving you with a bare-bones game that only becomes "good" when you sink enough money into it. It's actually extremely ironic to me that Sims 4 even had star wars land put in as a paid DLC, and it ended up being almost exactly like going to the park, full of false promises and largely disappointing people. It's all just so.... Apt.
I started watching this late, drifted off, and had a series of interactive dreams at a "Hang Out With Jenny!" store, where you got to do things like zip-lining and bank robberies.
the porg outfit in section 11 was just incredible
i feel like the hotel could’ve benefitted just from a themed gym, nightclub with a dance floor, and spa… you know… like most cruise ships have
Don’t forget pool
And on a much shorter and perhaps less eloquent note... ... f$%# that pole.
First and foremost, this is an *astonishing* video. Having previously watched the raw footage and your initial approach when the Star Wars Hotel (excuse me, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser) was still open, I'm blown away by how you distilled so much footage to create a solid narrative full of humor, callbacks, and thorough, thoughtful analysis that made the whole thing feel fresh and wildly entertaining! And there was even an original song to cap it all off!!! There aren't enough accolades for the work you did on this! Thank you for having long ago sacrificed Disney's goodwill towards influencers to actually deliver an honest assessment. At least you've earned the kind of fanbase clout and respect that inspired a fortune 500 to do a search and rescue for your lost droid! As to the experience itself, I believe much of this goes back to one of your original criticisms of Star Wars Land (ahem, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge a.k.a. Batuu). As a former Harry Potter Superfan, I explored the Wizarding World parks up and down and Starcruiser is essentially many of its best features placed - as you perfectly phrased it - behind a paywall. But there is also a fundamental lack of understanding on Disney's part of what makes Wizarding World work. You can't just throw a Star Wars coat of paint on Potter activities and call it a day. The two franchises share the commonalities of being Heroes Journey Fantasies, but the finer mechanics and worldbuilding are considerably different, affecting how fans would want to play in those two worlds: Potter has shopping baked into the narrative; Star Wars is pretty firmly anti-capitalist. Potter has a device (wand) that interacts with the world in a multitude of ways beyond combat and every magical person can buy one; Lightsabers are *only* for combat, are gifted *only* to Jedi, and benefit from the Force but aren't codependent on it to function... The Force as an intangible concept can't be purchased. Potter is chock full of quirky, colorful, grandiose environments meant to dwarf and engulf the reader/viewer; Star Wars has these, but only in either the more wealthy planets (which Disney seems to have forgone) or the First Order (which they explored in 1 ride), and otherwise the planets are sparsely populated and have minimal, nature-based attributes. Universal embraced not just the aesthetics of Potter, but the mechanics and worldbuilding which, in the end, were more suited for a capitalistic-based "immersive" experience. If you want to immerse audiences in Star Wars, you can't view it primarily as a money-maker with the story as secondary... in so many ways, that's what's causing its collapse under Disney's guidance. Mechanics-wise, you can't have a building full of up to 500 people playing the same game of Mass Effect and manage for everyone to meaningfully add to the storyline. But this would function in a much more lovely way out in the park, where the expectations of story scope and involvement are lower and attention spans of those 500 people are all split multiple ways. As you said, we've all been robbed! If Disney had any sense, the best parts of the hotel would (and still could!) be migrated over to the park. But as long as uncompromising Disney Adults are willing to pony up and defend the company's behavior, that probably won't happen. Hopefully the hotel and your takedown of it was a first step in taking off - or at least smudging? - the rose-tinted glasses.
those damn poles 😡

FREDDI FISH!!
Worth the wait. There's a lot of hilarious lines in this video but that ending thought about cruise ships and the hubris of man just really sums up Jenny's perfect deadpan delivery and sarcasm.
Loved the video!! Does anyone know when the cut off is for exclusion in her list at the end of the vid - bc I subbed on Patreon 5+ months ago and wasn't listed. All good w/ me, still an incredible video, but just curious if there's a standard practice there.
I’m wondering the same thing. I subbed in November and am not on the list at the end of the video. Is it only for upper tiers?
Jenny this is so good.
congratulations jenny!!!!
Please tell me there's a place the credits song is uploaded separately!! I wanna play it on repeat
I can't stop thinking about the fire closet of shame. I'm not even claustrophobic but that would freak me the hell out. I'd just try my luck against the fire lmao
I was wondering if it was bullet proof…
Great Vid! Congrats on getting it out
just finished this, awesome as expected
I was watching this while cooking and got absolutely jumpscared when i glanced at the screen and saw the giant porg head. 11/10 jenny's best hat
The conclusion at the end is so cutting and so true. I just want to point people who look at Tokyo Disney Sea's Fantasy Springs and think to themselves "yes, Disney corporate is definitely going to splurge 2billion USD to bring this stateside!" to this video. This kind of stuff is why we're never going to see Fantasy Springs level design and rides. Disney is too busy aggressively cost-cutting and paywalling everything to fathom making good experiences for the guests.
Something that really stuck out to me about that Imagineering documentary series on Disney Plus was how different the process was for designing Tokyo Disney Sea. The process the Imagineers had gotten used to was they would design a really cool thing, show it to Disney corporate, they would be asked how much it would cost, and be told told to make it work for like half the budget. For Tokyo Disney Sea they would design a really cool thing, show it to the Oriental Land Company, be asked how much it would cost, and be told “Okay.” They were shocked that the thing they designed was actually the thing that would get built. Things haven’t changed, unfortunately.
I get so angry and full of other emotions when I see so many people buried in their phones in these beautiful themed environments. How dare they design it that way.
Regarding the Disney Wish cost, it’s important to note that a room that big for that cost with nice amenities is in part afforded by the exploitation of labor provided by having a Bahamas flagged ship. Wait staff and housekeeping from the global south are kept in cramped rooms with criminally low pay while their US, UK, and Australian coworkers in entertainment get a sweeter deal. Not trying to justify the cost of the star cruiser, just want to spotlight the disgusting business of cruise lines and why they should not be frequented. Brilliant video, as always!!
This is such a good point. The podcast "Sounds Like A Cult" did an episode recently on cruises and interviewed a former Carnival employee. It was shocking how racism and exploitation are baked into their operating model.
Congrats on finishing this massive project! This is the length of two feature-length films!
This was so awesome!!! Thanks for taking one for the team and documenting your visit, then painstakingly editing and commenting. I'm glad I did not go in to debt to go the hotel, which would have been the only way I could have afforded to go.
One fascinating thing about this era of Disney is that arguably Walt Disney founded the company based on an ethos of big, long term thinking. People criticize and mock Walt Disney these days for his obsession with immortality and some of his tone-deaf approaches to futurism, but is the current paradigm of short-term money grabbing with no commitment to quality or sustainability really better? I think not.
I was thinking about the same thing! Walt was detail-oriented, and would be disappointed by the lack of originality, storytelling, and customer service the company is currently offering.
Jenny Nicholson, The Park Slayer. The song at the end put it over the top!
Why doesn’t Disney or anyone doing anything like this just hire you as a consultant! If you ever open anything like this, I would pay any amount to experience it.
“And I have possibly one of the best personalities in the world!” 100%
I'm curious about the decision not to include sleeping hours in the per hour/ minute cost breakdown. Not intending to nitpick at all! But if part of paying for hotel is paying for the use of the hotel room itself (like in a boring hotel) wouldn't those sleeping hours reasonably make up some small portion of the price? Like, if this was a daytime only experience with no hotel room to sleep in, the price would be even more ridiculous, which to me means that some portion of the price is attributable to the sleeping hours/use of the room during non-entertainment hours. I'm not sure if I've missed understanding something in that section. (And I am in no way defending the ludicrous price either way!)
Well, remember, the experience isn’t billed as a hotel. What you’re paying for is the scheduled immersive experience. The sleeping quarters are really only there because they kind of need to be. While I do agree that the quality of the room can add to, or take from, your enjoyment of the trip, I think you go into this knowing that the room isn’t what you’re really buying. Additionally, if you are trying to judge the value of “entertainment hours,” then I don’t think hours you’re asleep have no value. If I paid for a movie, sat down in the theater, and passed out for 4 hours, I would not feel like I got my money’s worth, no matter how comfortable the chairs are.
Damn. I can't recall Jenny ever being this visibly angry in any previous video.
In Jenny’s pandora video she mentions theres the implication lunch breaks dont exist in space so i was surprised she didnt point out… shifts exist on cruise ships right? Like it wouldnt be weird for the captain or whoever to disappear for a bit. In fact it makes less sense that the pop star would be hanging out with people- she should be signing fake autographs and retiring to her room.
Amazing video Jenny!!
I have never been more excited to watch four hours of content about a franchise I don’t even like :)
I feel like Jenny as a whole doesn’t get recognised for how intelligent her points are, her writing, analysis and structure of these videos are phenomenal. She’s so talented and skilled it’s crazy.
I love when I get opportunities to add structural engineering insights to Jenny's videos 😂 Those pillars stopping you from seeing the performance are absolutely not required! They may not even be load-bearing. They're just like that for the chunky 70s Star Wars aesthetic. Even if they are load-bearing, the actual structural element inside them would be way smaller than how it looks with the covering. All the more reason to just delete them and increase the structure inside the actual walls and into the ceiling to compensate if necessary.
Loving the video but I have to say it's so bizarre seeing my old NYU teacher/mentor (Mikhael Tara Garver) in one of your videos...
What you described as your ideal gameplay actually does exist in the Disney parks! The Magic Kingdom in Orlando has pirate treasure hunts you can do that have tap points for your Magic Bands and animatronics. So Disney is capable of something like that, but didn’t include it in the Starcruiser (for whatever reason.)
I thought this would be fun—and it was—but it was mostly a very canny, fascinating and upsetting analysis of a huge business and creative failure. Jenny is a redoubtable observer of Disney and fan culture generally. I’m very impressed!
I will forever talk and reminiscence about the Kim Possible game in Epcot; truly a unique and fun experience that made you feel cool and VIP for FREE.
Now it’s rethemed to Ducktales and you can play it via your phone.
Ngl halfway trough the video i just feel bad, like, i feel sad for jenny and all of those other people that probably didn't get to enjoy their overly expensive trip
Has Disney considered that you get out what you put into it? Maybe Disney could have had a more successful starcruiser if they tried harder, or less, or were a big enough nerd to make a good experience for themselves.
Congratulations on completing this massive project. Funny, educational, and enlightening as always! Watched the whole thing in one sitting last night.
Wow. Jenny hates that pole like Kendrick Lamar hates Drake.
Certified Structural Support? Certified Obstacle.
Incredible work, Jenny! You really nailed it on the head at the end. I have been irritated at Disney's greed and lack of quality for a long time, and I felt that in my soul by the end here. Just talked to my sister who's taking her family of 5 to Disney World in a few weeks, and she's stressing because of the recent DAS changes. Also some of your best outfits yet for a video, and I kept calling my husband over to look at some of them. The commitment to the Porg...amazing. I had to pause & laughed for like 5 minutes. Edit: when you explained that *allegedly* the actors weren't even making more than other actors at the parks, I got so mad. The expectation is definitely that these actors are paid well for such a demanding performance...and for the cost!
Two thoughts: the fact the umbrellas weren’t themed is no indicative of the lack of care. Making an umbrella look like a Lightsaber feels like the easiest thing in the world. Second, I think Keylo slamming Rey’s head is there because it’s just so pro wrestling: it’s really easy to fake but put the right sound effect there and feels intense to a live crowd.
Me browsing Netflix: 2.5 hours movie...nah, no one has time for that. Also me: 4 hours Jenny video? Yes, please and thank you!
All the time.
jenny, unlike the hotel, this video was worth the wait and more 💛 expertly done in every way, and like each new main channel video, this is my favorite one you've ever done. (and the song at the end? I WAS LOSING IT.)
wow that porg made some super insightful points
This was excellent, and I really appreciate how you concluded. What's a really big bummer for me is that my disabled friends have always praised Disney as the one place where they can have a good vacation experience because Disney has always been super considerate about disability and accessibility, but stuff like the goddamn shame closet and also stuff I've heard about the parks elsewhere seems to demonstrate that that's going down hill, meaning they're just as bad as everyone else. Combined with the fact that MCU movies etc. are all making less money nowadays I feel like Disney is genuinely hitting a wall of what people are willing to put up with. Maybe the dedicated superfans/disney adults/whatever will pour enough money in that they'll continue this way, but ultimately Disney only makes money if people buy their shit, and a lot of people seem less willing to play ball. Sure Frozen for example is still massive, but is Wish, or even Encanto, going to drive merch sales? Are parents going to want to go to the parks if the only walkaround characters have massive lines and cost money for photo ops? I know I used to think about saving up for a Disney trip, because I'd heard they were so good about accessibility, but I feel like my window to do that was ten years ago, when the first parktubers I watched were posting, and now it just isn't worth it. Somewhere like Knott's Berry Farm or a universal park seem way better, and I shouldn't be saying that about Disney, a company I used to adore as a teenager and child.
as a disabled person, they ALSO threw another nail in the coffin this month by limiting who can use the disability access service within the parks. this was to 'prevent cheating', which... sure, there were some folks cheating the system. but predominantly, it cut out a lot of actually disabled people who weren't 'disabled enough' or worse, stereotypically disabled enough for them. and, um... genie plus is a paid service. it doesn't strike me as a coincidence that we've moved into 'less disabled people in the line they should be in' when we need to keep lines down for disabled guests... *eyeroll*
I love this on so many levels. I had booked the captains suite for my family (mom, dad, and four kids) with the captains table ($18,000 for the two nights). Then you started sharing footage of your trip and I cancelled our starcruiser vacation. I think the last 10 minutes of this four-hour video are super important for Disney- they take loyalty for granted when they haven’t done anything in decades to earn it. People don’t feel brand loyalty when they feel nickle and dimed to death.
I hope you and your family were able to have a fun and enjoyable vacation somewhere else! The booking process struck me convoluted and not entirely transparent, and I don't think they were necessarily trying to hide anything overtly but still that's a lot of money to ask for when you barely advertise the true experience of your service
Jenny you did it again you absolute maniac another banger video
I'm glad that you got to experience it Jenny, and I'm glad I didn't, instead experiencing it vicariously through you. That sounds weirder than it should.
Did you ever find out or does anyone know how the fire safety closets/"pods" were even remotely up to code?? I've never heard of anything like that, and it's shocking to me that it was even approved. Lots of people mentioned mobility constraints for people with wheelchairs or walkers, and that's just another thing that is baffling to me like how did they expect that to work out?
I assume that folks with mobility aids would have booked accessible rooms which came with accessible "shame closets" but that 100% doesn't make it any better
This was really good. Four hours flew by and it didn't drag one bit. Everything rolled into the next bit and felt really fluid. Loved the end song too!
SOOO EXCITED to dig my teeth into this one
Kind of insane to me that they designed this to be a hellscape for people with sensory issues. Considering that 'the audience for a star wars hotel' and 'people with sensory issues' are pretty close to 1:1... Maybe the shame closet was originally intended to help people calm down from overstimulation and then shenanigans occurred and it became a tomb instead.
YES. End-to-end the whole thing is(oops was) an accessibility nightmare. Even waiting to enter outside in the heat with no seating or refreshments would be overstimulating for me.
This was wonderful. Glad to get the full expression of your overarching Disney criticism. IDK if it's a belief that they're too big to fail, or the private equity mindset seeping into general business strategy. It's sad, in any case. Disney leadership has been handed this beautiful gift of decades of brand goodwill and they're running it dry.
I'm not sure if Jenny reads these but! If you get any response from Disney about this video (like once you posted on Twitter about a problem they suddenly care) I would be super interested to hear about it! Thanks for all the work you put into these videos, I love it and I think it's important to document the weird stuff like this!!
Is there a place we can listen or buy the full version of the ending theme for this and the evermore videos?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFcFqWHsnlI
It’s incredible, I love it!!!
The costumes are amazing, I wonder where Jenny got that Porg head. I think that would be a good topic for Jenny, best costume. My favs are when she was Nicole from Hallmark's videos. I never knew what a statement necklace was. Also, Barbie and when she put that snake on her head to hide a cowlick. There's just too many to list. I should make a numbered list one day. Thanks Jenny for everything! :)
So on the second day, was it also dumping rain in the "simulated environment" chamber?
I'd just like to point out that so many of Jenny's videos, like this and Evermore, are full-on documentaries, of the same standard as "official" documentary series/films (in fact, better researched and presented than a lot of them). This could be like an eight-part Netflix documentary, but it's better than the Netflix ones I've seen. How many Netflix documentaries feature multiple elaborate costume changes and Skippy interrupting wanting his snack? None, that's how many. (I don't mean to sound patronising, more just thinking how much better Jenny's videos are than much bigger budget, corporate-produced things. Hmm, I wonder if this is relevant to the video somehow...)
Congrats, Jenny!
To think I decided to watch the vlog footage of your trip for the first time yesterday and then this video came out LMAO
Jenny did you murder your porg for this video
Just kidding, I'm at the end and I see that little egg shaped buddy in tact. Whew! 😇
I am so messy, I really wanted to know who allegedly buys their followers and was presenting their truncated Starcruiser preview as the full #hosted experience. 🤭
OMG THE COSTUMES. Worth it for the costumes alone.
Yay
with all the horror in this world, I'm so glad we have this small joy to share... just a girl who loves weird stuff, and loves to dress up weird and share <3 yay jenny! and yay all the people who love these vids! <3
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS
I fell out of my chair at the Porg costume omg it was so good 😁 but then my heart broke hearing that Jenny had to psych herself up to continue her vacation 😢 Oh and the custom closing credits song was brilliant 👏 Truly a great video which I rate as immersive/10!
I do like it!
omg huge congratulations on getting it finished, you must be so pleased!! I'm so excited to look for my name in the credits for the first time 🥺
I've been spotting my name in the credits for years and lemme tell you, the joy never seems to diminish. There's a wave of Chrises on the lefthand side, a flood of Sarahs on the right, and then, it me! 😁 Here's hoping you find the same bliss in many more videos to come. =D
Just finished, congrats on a great video! I really appreciated how you pointed out the great performance of the cast members, and I think you make a great point that if someone was monitoring the experience of the guests before the game was halfway over they could have drastically improved the experience for people who got left out by the app. For the price they charged it's ridiculous that everything was run by an app!
If this hotel was priced as you suggested (approx. $800 per person) i could see it being a great "make your own fun" sort of thing for hardcore Star Wars LARPers who just wanna be like that one guy in the bathroom scraping spice off the floor, by which I mean do their own completely original wacky dramatic storylines with their friends, or like act out a fanfiction or whatever in a fun Star Wars environment and ignore the gameplay, but for $4000 a person ur better off just doing ur LARP at the mall.
Oh my gosh, I cannot wait to watch this!!
It’s so refreshing to hear someone being actually critical of Disney since I worked for them for many years and even from the outside I still feel like I’m on a “Disney Bubble” where everything they do is perfect and if something like this fails its actually because “the public did not get it” or “it was ahead of its time” smh
And yes modern Disney does just make you mad. Like the outcomes of their actions are so obvious it's like why can't they see it???
This was amazing! The end song was inspired. It was definitely worth the wait! It really is the people that make the magic.
No wonder we waited so long, this is a masterpiece 🥲
also you said you were blurring out people's faces if you thought commenters would insult them, but you didn't blur out the pole, and now it's being mocked relentlessly >:( cancellable offense
Jenny now needs to make a YouTuber Apology (tm) video, and then review it on Patreon
just finished the video, and couldn't stop thinking one thing: star wars hotel is basically space evermore (also great job on the video, it's so well-done!!!)
the difference is that the price is two orders of magnitude higher
I noticed something that makes the sacrificial lamb theory pretty unlikely: Jenny tried to be First Order and got placed in Restistance. The majority of people, especially children, will want to play heros rather than villains so I find it hard to believe that there were no awailable slots in First Order while Resistance was available. Unless First Order was planned to accomodate less people, but from the marketing I'd assume they'd go for an even split between the three paths.
That's what I thought too when she first showed that bit in the preview; I feel like of all paths, the First Order one is the one you WILL get into because it's the one most people won't be trying for.
The credit song is sooo catchy! Makes me want to dance, unseen behind a pole!
I have a packed next couple of days but I'll download this and what it on the plane 🥳🥳
I just took part in a 48-hour filmmaking challenge and this was my reward to chill out and unwind with. I'm two hours in and I'm floored by the number of costume changes!
The funniest thing is that the thing that will kill megacorporations are the megacorporations themselves. In their search for every greater profits they kill any semblance of what made them great in the first place.
could you do a show about the general corruption of social media influencers by big corps -- especially, but not exclusively Disney?
this is the greatest day of my life
Lyrics to end song?
Finally -- Part 2 of the Star Wars Land video.
So excited to watch!!!
my theory is that they never thought anybody would play evil, or just didn't bother to build that option
I am cancelling all my plans today to watch, what I am sure will be, a masterpiece
Today is now a national holiday.
Been waiting so long for this! And it came out on my birthday im so happy!
Happy birthday!🥳🎂
very excited to watch! thanks for the incredible work as always, jenny!
Congratulations! I am thrilled — we’ve missed you over there!
Congratulations with finishing the video!
The last section is so fantastic, it really communicates how bleak the direction the park has headed in has become and it really feels like a culmination of all these gripes we've seen jenny venting offhand about in recent patreon vids
Yep, she has already expressed her exhaustion with the money train Disney has been on recently. But it was very eloquently phrased.
I'm surprised they didn't have a Mandalorian aboard, they're popular with the 40 year old fanbase who'll spend $6000 on this and they could tie it in with the recentish, well-received Disney+ show, come on Disney get on the trolley
I thought you weren’t working on this and I just woke my husband up to tell him how excited I am to watch it! 😂
Literally "Babe wake up, new Jenny Nicholson video just dropped." 😅
This is the best video you've ever made.
I've never been to a theme park like ceder point and this is fascinating
*ahem* Cedar Point, like Six Flags, is a lowly Amusement Park, not a theme park! 🤓
"I love the corps!" -Jenny proudly remembering her time as a marine
my friends and I are live blogging this video to each other, it's so good! thank you for making this video!!
This is amazing, thank you!
Amazing. Perfect. That ending felt like a closing argument in the case against the modern Disney machine. Guilty. Guilty guilty guilty!
Part 17 made me feel personally ashamed for creating such an overpriced, underwhelming experience... sorry for my crappy hotel :( (I did not have a hand in the creation of the Star Wars Hotel)
Having just last week rewatched almost all the non-original trilogy Star Wars films, I can say with confidence that I was more excited by this than most of the content the theme park this video is about was based on. And I actually like most of those films to some degree.
Congrats!!!
i count myself lucky that you release these as entertaining instead of as a paid consultant
Just finished it. Definitely worth the wait. Galactic Starcruiser always fascinated me. It looked like it would be fun to just sit around the lounge, drink, maybe watch a few of the story beats - but for what it cost, there was no way to justify the trip. The gameplay also looked tiresome and not very rewarding. The contrast between the gameplay in the ads vs. reality is pretty funny. The ads show two kids sneaking Chewbacca out of the cargo bay but in reality it's 20+ people huddled around Chewbacca and that is only if you showed up 15 minutes early for the story event. There was just wayyy too many people to make these story beats feel personalized and rewarding in the way they intended them to be.
This made me think of my trip to Universal 2 years ago. As a big fan of Harry Potter as a kid, I had to watch the wand show. And it just so happened that there were no children in my group and I got chosen. I literally ended up crying because that experience was so integral to the little kid that's inside of me. It is crazy that a 5-minute show would be of more value to me than this 2 day experience.
I mean, the Harry Potter experience at Leavesden Studios is, if not cheap, not thousands of pounds, and frankly, between the original film props and the sets built for it like Gringotts, more interesting and impressive than Starcruiser looks. Which I say as slightly more of a Star Wars fan than a Harry Potter fan. As Jenny says the hotel just looks so empty, and of course it's not a location from the films in the first place so not as exciting as being in Diagon Alley, say.
I LOVE IT
“That’s not the way it should be, but that’s the way it is. And that makes me feel angry.” Exactly my thoughts on how the capitalist machine is destroying our planet, our quality of life, and our luxury science fiction LARP hotels. It’s so interesting that Disney, a company with huge resources, makes parallel mistakes to more of a “start up” theme park like Evermore because they share a disregard for the customer experience. Customers are data points in the profit calculations, so the creators aren’t thinking, “What would I enjoy at a Star Wars hotel?” and then doing their best to deliver that to the guests, but rather thinking, “How can we squeeze the most possible amount of money out of each customer?” For smaller scale ventures like Evermore you can forgive the desperation of charging extra for the train ride since they’re struggling to stay in business at all. But the Disney corporation’s vast media holdings have to be equivalent to the GDP of some small countries, so what Jenny charitably calls “stinginess” in the nickel and diming of customers is really a symptom of the corporate greed that is in other cases genuinely harmful to society. The same principles of unlimited profit maximization govern more crucial industries like food production and, in my country, medical care. The Meow Wolf installations are great examples of what immersive theme park type environments can be when creativity is truly in the driver’s seat, and when creative decisions are not made by egotistical CEOs or cynical financial boards, but by actual artists. Of course Meow Wolf is still run as a business that I’m sure works hard to stay lucrative, but you can tell it’s a project being run by people who care more about making cool weirdo art installations than making unlimited amounts of money, the rights of the workers and the happiness of the customers be damned. I’ve been a long time fan of Jenny because she’s so funny and smart, and I’m also a nerd who likes things like science fiction and kitsch roadside attractions. And as an anti-capitalist I absolutely love her cultural analysis, which I think points to some really important trends to be aware of. Fans of big corporate IP are often dismissed out of hand by snooty leftists who sneer at their interests and call it corporate boot-licking. But socialists are supposed to want bread AND roses for all - i.e. both our basic needs and the things that make life pleasurable for humanity. I wish more socialists would realize that yes, even Disney Adults are potential allies in the struggle to end capitalist exploitation. But we need to talk about how improved protections for workers and consumers will make theme parks (along with more important things like medicine and education) better, not make fun of them for their juvenile, counterrevolutionary enjoyment of theme parks. Anyway I’m only 90 minutes in but I just wanted to say thanks for all the great videos. You are the best YouTuber.
The problem with having "Disney adults" be allies is that they're only really allies if they back off from the "Disney adult" thing a bit rather than going to bat for a corporation that's shitty to them. I don't mean that as harshly as it sounds when written; I don't think of them as enemies or something, but if they're not the kind of person who is actually critical of Disney, it might be tough to talk them into taking a stand against it unless Disney gets even worse.
This video feels so visceral right off the bat. I love it. Also Spirit Airlines Jenny is like our version of Katherine from VPD edit: i realize now that maybe that outfit is not what spirit airlines stewardesses wear....
Regarding your last point, I’m really curious to see how Disney World ticket sales are affected by Universal’s Epic Universe opening next year (assuming it’s as good as it looks to be from the promotional materials)
This is such a weird parallel but I've recently gotten back into pro-wrestling after most of my lifetime firmly away - and the reason is that, for the most part, the promos have become far more earnest, naturalistic and often drawn very directly from the performers' own life experience and feelings. ...and you're right - it's SO jarring every time someone's pouring their heart out by combining a their real life with a much greater focus on character acting... only to punctuate it with, "...and, on the [day][month], at Hell in a Cell 2023 in [city][US-State/non-US country]..." I don't get it - these events aren't PPV anymore (at least in WWE) and have probably sold out long before a lot of these promos are ever cut. Why force the performer to break their flow and turn into a full-on commercial in such a way that it could only harm sales (if it has any effect at all) by stripping away the facade of authenticity they've worked their asses off to build? EDIT: Since I've always travelled on the cheap, the price point here is practically abstract to me. I mean, not so long ago, it would have paid my year's rent on really a remarkably nice flat 10 minute's walk from the centre of our capital city. So, honestly, the comparison with, well, Ryanair (the Irish Spirit Airways - for anyone wondering, yes, obviously I meant Belfast - you couldn't get that yearly rent in a skip so close to the centre of Dublin) and the real cruise were both incredibly useful and... jaw-dropping. The only reason I can possibly think of for them pricing it that insanely for what you got was that they decided, too late in construction to back out, that they'd completely botched it, it would never be viable in the long-term, and all they could do would wring as much money out of the novelty factor while it lasted. It's madness. Also, if you think I wouldn't remember Chirrut Imwe's name, you wildly underestimate how many times I've watched a video called "Rogue 101" that... somebody made (Robo-Legs McLaughlin still gets a laugh out of me to this day - and is also why I have no idea what that character's name was).
My favorite was Gunther doing that and then getting the day of the Royal Rumble wrong.
Your writing for these Is impeccable. I can’t imagine how long it takes to write such a tight and entertaining script as this. Not to mention all the footage and editing. Amazing. Thanks for all your hard work.
I LOVE YOU JENNY!!!!
I’m always here for six flags slander 😂
"A crumbling gas station with a roller coaster out back"
Four hours into the video, the dry delivery of "The very first time a luxury cruise ship has ever been symbolic of the hubris of man" almost slipped by me. The closing-credits song rocks, and I'm proud that this is my first appearance in the patron credits for a Jenny video.
I'm so happy! Partly for you, but mostly for myself, because I get to watch this.
These ending songs you’ve been commissioning and, I assume, writing the lyrics for are of insane quality. Good lord. I mean, the whole video was great, but as you said, it’s those little immersive touches that really sell something.
The "Hello traveler" moment broke me. Literally laughed out loud while watching it by myself, completely alone.
Time stamp?
does anybody remember the interactive treasure hunts that Disney parks used to have? Kim Possible/Phineas and Ferb themed in my experiences but you got like a little phone and had to travel around and do small activities? Some of what Jenny was talking about reminded me of that.
Keep watching, you'll get confirmation that Jenny remembers those treasure hunts (as I do, when our kids were doing the Kim Possible version)
Congrats!!
Oh man, is this video is gonna lead to SK-620 becoming an NFT grifter?
I haven’t seen it yet but knowing it is here is the highlight of my week. Thank you Jenny Nicholson! Your work brings joy and merriment.
This is everything I ever needed since I was never going to make it to this mess and a friend managed to get in before they closed. When they shared their experience I knew I needed more detail. And here you are! With the detail I needed! Thanks for this. ❤️😊
The part vii outfit is amazing!
What an immersive video!
Wow, cannot wait to watch this. I had the opportunity to visit the star wars hotel with my sister and luckily not on our own dime but as a gift from our late father. We had an absolute blast, but the things we enjoyed most about it were things that did not require the expense that went in to the visit. We loved sitting in the cantina drinking and talking with people we met on the ship, the dinner party and how they made normal food feel alien. We loved dressing up and seeing the characters. Our highlight was going to Galaxy's Edge in costume and making the day of a family by BSing with their very young kids in Oga's cantina. The joy on the face of those very stressed parents was real. We ended up doing the one storyline that is not a part of the app, where you get the guitar guy (sandro) and the rodian alien to get together. That was awesome because only a handful of us, the friends we had met, got into this storyline and so we ended up BSing with Sandro in the cantina helping him write his song and giving him love advice while the rest of the ship was busy sneaking around Rey or whatever. When he sang the song on the final night and our lyrics were in there and we got a shout out that was awesome. We ended up closing down the bar on the final night, with the bar staff letting us try the Krayt dragon party drink that wasnt debuting until the next week or so. It was awesome and a memory I won't forget. The cast and crew were amazing and they deserve so much better than what Disney provided here! In the end I found that I didnt really need a lot of what the starcruiser was offering. I would have been happy paying a slight premium for a "star wars hotel" that just had some "in character" restaurants and bars, entertainers walking around, and the general AMBIENCE that comes with star wars. The story stuff is obviously hard to get into when you're just in these massive groups and its obviously designed to shuttle people in and out. Its really what you make of it. I am sad it has ended up closed, likely for good due to tax reasons, when I think it could have had the price lowered and the experience opened up a bit. Like seriously disney just give me a hotel that is as setup as Oga's Cantina and pay some of the excellent disney entertainers to walk around as aliens/rebels/empire guys or whatever. And have lots of droids. I'll pay a markup for that!!
Thank you for sharing your experience, that sounds so lovely! It gives me hope that others were able to make their own fun in the face of... whatever was going on
I’m at such a loss for impressive this video is, and I’m only 1 hour in. Has any company ever come to you seeking feedback on an experience or product they’re producing? I feel like you would be an invaluable resource to catch so many of their blind spots.
I've always thought this as well!
I’ve been anticipating this video for months and here it is…the night before my 25th birthday…you truly are wonderful Jenny💖
Happy quartercentennial! 🥳🎂¼💯
This was amazing Jenny!! I’m genuinely dying at the lyrics for the credit song + the fact that you put more effort into them than Disney did 😭😭😭
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JENNY HELLLLL YEAH!!!! YOU GO GIRL
I am so pumped
YOU DID IT JENNY YOU CAN RELAX 🙏🙏
I won't be able to watch until probably tomorrow, but it's beautiful Jenny I'm proud in the way I imagine I'd be to see a friend have a baby gorgeous great job
H*ck yeah
Love it. I'm about 1.5 hours in.

The Skinner box of refreshing YouTube finally pays off!!
YES
Who needs sleep? I sure don't! I'm grabbing my popcorn and ready to watch!
the fan film in the bathroom gets me every time
Jenny. This is a masterpiece. Four hours on a Saturday night and this has made my week. Nice work!
I am legitimately more excited for this than for any movie since lord of the rings
this is my joker
man it must feel so good having this done, congratulations!!
YESSSSS
“I hope you like my quality pole footage”
Let's gooooooo

Pouring some wine into my Chandrila Star Line glass (that I got at Oga's lol) and settling in for the masterpiece
so excited to watch this!
OH DAMN the last few hours of my shift can't go fast enough.
Yay Jenny! Can’t wait to watch
So glad I’m just stuck at home sick. 🫡
FOUR HOURS
missed your chance to call it a failure of galactic proportions smh 😔
"I hope you like it!" Bro i literally live for these of course I like it
Only 7 minutes in and it's everything I hoped already.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Really enjoying this overview so far. Thanks for sharing. I do think that LARPers were the right people. People talk about the cost, but this is in line with very expensive hotels worldwide. If the experience had been good I don't think it would have had a problem there. They just couldn't deliver.
Yay so exciting!
Bless you! Just in time to finish grading finals.
Congrats!
Congratulations on getting it out!
Amusingly this dropped while I was in line for Smuggler’s Run. Watched the intro; can’t wait to watch the rest.
YAYYYY 🎉🎉
How do you even review/proofread a 4hr video like this bruh, thank you beast mode jenny
She didn't slay, she slaughtered. Not just the men, but the women and children too. Disney's starcruiser is like animals, and she slaughtered it like animals.
OMG it's 4 hours long?!? You are the best!!
🥳🥳🥳
it's been so cool to see this come together over time, super excited to watch the finished product. congrats!!
WOOHOO!!!!!
It’s here!
Yaay good job Jenny, Im proud of you for getting this beast out finally!
This is literally the most anticipated drop of 2024 I am so THANKFUL for the work you put in Jenny!!
i’m ten seconds in and just sooo excited like you’ve been in premiere pro jail for so long and now it’s here!!!! CONGRATS omfg
Oh my goddd I’m so excitedddd
YEEEES!!
I went on a Caribbean cruise when I was in middle school, I didn't really like it. I joked about how if people were given the exact same experience but on land, it wouldn't have the same popularity and reverence . Cruises are the Emperor's New Clothes of vacations and it took the Galactic Starcruiser to really show that.
Yessss
YAY JENNY
GIDDY UP!
It’s happening. It’s really happening.
AHHH I'M SO EXCITED ❤️❤️
YAAAAYYYY ive been so excited for this one for so long!!! cant wait to watch!!! 🎊
congrats!!!! im so excited
I've been looking forward to this one more than anything!
Hi Jenny! Idk if you’ll see this, but I just had to say smth…I’ve had a really bad week, one of the worst in my life, and the timing of this drop could not be more perfect. Thank you so much for all of the videos you make, and I would gladly wait years for your work. Thanks again <3
I hope your week gets better, Rachel!
LET’S GOOOOOOOO
YES DUDE
Woo-hoo!
Jenny doesn’t mess around. Four hours it is!
LETS GOOO
Thank you for all your hard work Jenny! I know how long this has been hanging over you and how much you put into this review in order to get everything just right and I respect your commitment to artistry in your videos above all else! I couldn't be happier to support such an awesome content creator (If you accept that term for yourself 😅) Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta make some poppy-corn and chill out to starcruiser talk for 4 hours~
omg this is so wild, I was watching the old galaxy edge’s video when you posted this. what perfect timing!

How are you feeling re: copyright claims?
It got one for star wars score in the bg of one of the ads but I disputed it and decided to go for it while it's under dispute since it didn't entirely disable monetization (it's just held in escrow and I feel like this is an easy fair use win)
