I have it on good authority that there legitimately is an FBI surveillance van that fronts as a food truck.
I’m ngl, I had to google the thing about Mike Tyson having a Mao tattoo. He spent three years behind bars for SAing an 18 year old woman, while locked up he read Mao’s work from the Shanghai years. He embraced the figure as rebellious, and got his face and name tattooed on the bicep.
I had a genuine crisis trying to remember if I had forgotten a F&F movie with Kenneth Branagh as a villain...
SuperEyepatchIguana? I love that giy
Not sure I can take many more of these films...I may just listen to the off weeks for a little while tbh. also ive dropped off the outro list again I think...
They're going to be so mad at the post credits scene in 5. Can't wait to hear it
I think the creative team probably viewed these movies as dude movies, and interest in cars as mainly a dude culture thing. If they viewed it as potentially open to women, it was probably on the basis that they be "Cool/Chill" about the sexism.
They fully did not consider or worry about female viewership of the franchise early on. Was saying on the Tokyo Drift episode comments that something I think got lost in the intervening years that make a lot of the director's decisions in that movie make more sense (doesn't make them Good, but it does make sense) is that movie wasn't aimed at the same audience as the first or later movies in the series. The first (and most of them after 4) were geared towards an audience of men 13-35, 2nd was slightly younger at 13-25. But Tokyo Drift was specifically made with teen boys aged 13-20 as the intended viewer. The camera expects you to be a 16yo guy who dreams of having a cool car and hot women hanging around. It was meant to be wish fulfillment for that demographic. The consistent element being that (until after 5 when they started to lean even heavier into the family things and the cast got older) it was entirely made with young men in mind.
I know car-fu
If you think about it, a sandworm is kinda like a truck. Just saying
Rip to “forcefem frank” letti definitely dead forever and not new vegas-ing it rn
So that's what Brannon Braga did with all his Star Trek money . . .
I didn't have time to listen to this for a bit so I looked up the trailer, which uses the song Crank That (Soulja Boy), which is the most Two Thousand Fucking Eight choice of all time.
At the time I made a pun off of that song, my more nerdy friends didn't get it so I was explaining it, and a car drove by blasting that song.
I don't know how Abi could not know what a buster is. Until the day I die, I will remember, "A scrub is a guy who thinks he's fly and is also known as a buster"
You have to remember she was born after 9/11, so.
Just realised I spent this entire episode AND the entire of The Assignment confusing Michelle Rodriguez for Michelle Gomez and now I'm laughing at how wildly different those films would have been
Okay, I’m glad I’m not the only one.
My local performing arts center showed Redline (2009) today and I think it would be a perfect addition to fast and furious season.
I was confused for a moment because I thought you were taking about the 2007 F&F ripoff, and was wondering why anyone would show that crapper.
An alternative read on Dom Toretto's BDS flaps is that he has really strong opinions on kink culture and runs a Facebook page called BDS Without The M.
And Zandaya is Meechee 😌
Dom Toretto Road Mage is just a shadowrun character who I will now be playing.
When November said 7 more F&F movies, I wonder if that includes 2004's TORQUE: Fast & Furious On Motorbikes?
Also another 'vehicles being used to transport drugs across the border' movie
Speaking of movies with parkour in them and movies with Paul Walker in them, he did star in Brick Mansions (2014), the American remake of Banlieue 13 (2004). Both movies written and produced by Luc "Acquitted Of All Charges" Besson.
Carmen vs Truckers. Maybe the next film should be a musical, i.e. "Westside Story"?
"Dominican Republic Toretto" is a quality bad joke 👍
"Howl's Moving Castle Doctrine" is a rough one, oof....
The only thing I'm holding out for in this franchise is the return of Frank Transporter.
ultimate showdown of forcefem frank hit man vs frank transmasc transporter
If *you* would like to press Tiangle twice and send Vin Diesel catapaulting from moving car to moving car, go to abandonware and check out the PS3-era game Wheelman. It's basically royalty-free Fast & Furious, and you car-jump near constantly while the woman on your radio says things like "Yes! Como sexo fantastico!"
Dom has Batman Arkham Detective Vision but only for cars
Modelo is better than Corona
i thinki that's part of the feel they want to convey.; Also Carta Blanca, ever since they returned to the 1960s recipe, has surpassed (mogged? that's what them whippersnappers say?) them both; but it reads far more vernacular than Corona or Pacifico or Modelo
Trucker Iguana was my favorite Metal Gear Solid character.
Loving how unrestrained Abi is when there's no way for her to be in a movie with a guy. Just banger jokes all the way through
Would love to know if Over the Top 1987 qualifies for Truck season
It has to. It's literally about class, masculinity, and trucker morality
I'm sad that y'all didn't watch Los Bandoleros in conjunction with this one. Not only is it the only sincere Fast & Furious movie, it gives a bunch of context for the start of Fast 4. It establishes Han and Dom in the DR, shows Dom's connection to the locals, reunites Dom and Letty after having not seen each other since Fast 1 (it turns out Dom had completely ghosted her and she had only just then tracked him down again!) and manages to show genuine chemistry between the two of them for a tender moment before they get ready for the Iguanaman truck heist.
Agreed - it introduced Tego and Santos too, and the most action was cutting a fence. Dom and Letty just chatting in the car, and he wasn't speeding or anything. Just playing on the beach, then fade.
I really hope you cover XXX, its perfect for the pod. Extreme Sports James bond
Plus the second one is nigh-reprehensibly awful, so there's also that to look forward to.
i need y'all to know that, before they retconned it, Han's full name was "Han Seoul-Oh".
One of the two guys bickering in Spanish is reggaeton superstar Don Omar. He’s gonna do Danza Kaduro for the next one
Isn't the other one reggaeton superstar Tego Calderon?
"Howl's Moving Castle Doctrine" Wait, is that a Lord Mandalore reference?
On the carteles & simony: this is VERY pre financial crash. Old school carteles tended to provide for their towns often using the structure of the church to finance town services in a parastatal position. Newer carteles, those arising from the school of the Americas, tend to be in conflict with Catholicism & sometimes affect explicitly satanic imagery to their killings
I am baffled at your bafflement at Vindomino TorentialDiezel's stealth He does road mage shit. He can become invisible by sacrificing a roll of polarizing film
*googles off-road truck racing*… BAWHAW!?
aka Trophy Trucks
49:00 MONSTER energy? I think you'll find it was a can of delicious NOS, as they are carmen There's actually an outtake where Paul Walker stops working on a car to face the camera and drink a can of NOS with the label pointing towards the camera and the crew laughs
Empty trucks actually have a longer stopping distance than a loaded one, without weight the tires don't have enough traction to use maximum braking power. You really don't want a truck skidding down the road with all of the wheels locked up.
Enough gasoline to feel denial!
Thank you for acknowledging Better Luck Tomorrow as part of the franchise There may have been a few months of grad school where a friend was writing her MA on that film (and not including Shopping for Fangs for some reason) and now I have way too much to say about that film
On the subject of cultural intensity. One of the reasons Bryan goes after Dwight is that Dwight calls him a carman racial slur for people that drive Japanese cars "Ricer"
Shocking how normalized that particular word was in the car scene back in the day. To the point that people would pull out a whole backronym (“racing-inspired cosmetic enhancements” iirc) to say NO ITS NOT RACIST. But I was a literal child and could see through that shit
road mage: https://youtu.be/1Xxe9C1gzHE?si=tSu9yP8nPuFXK2kM
As a connoisseur of this particular franchise this one was always the oddest to me. Not quite the street racing fluff of the first three, not quite the insane superhuman hijackers of five onwards. Not the worst (F9 is coming) but just a bit meh. Still it got Vin Desil back in place to be an unbearable prick to all his co stars as god intended.
Fast and Furious is another franchise that fascists enjoy, maybe slightly more understandably than the other ones like Star Trek they like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATF_gunwalking_scandal
If we are entering the Gal Gadot era of FF you should consider Triple 9. Its great. She’s barely in it. One of the best heist films of the 2010s. Kate Winslet plays a Russian mob boss.
Glory to Dom Torreto and the Palestinian resistance
Hometown mentioned! Watched this movie in theaters in Panama City, Florida and when "Panama City Panama" came on the screen, there was a "AYY- oh" from the people in the audience. Like a hundred years ago, the city was named "Harrison" and then they renamed it in the hopes that some sort of Panama shipping route would come there or something? We moved away in 2021 after a hurricane destroyed it in 2018
