S3E20: Deadlier than the Male
This movie, based (loosely) on the Bulldog Drummond series of pulp novels, posits the question "What if women?". The answer, dear listeners, may surprise you.

Hey, Devon here. Give money to people crowdfunding for passage out of Rafah first and foremost. While the crossing might be closed, the situation is changing by the day and being able to afford passage out when the crossing reopens is an immense comfort. then purchase ESIMs, then donate to this link if you feel you need a big name attached to the fund to trust it.
Please don't only donate money. You have to do other things now.

Not me Googling to see what model Abi was talking about because I'm insatiably curious. 😂 Best guess: Ariel Nicholson
I’d classify female-on-make sexual assault as unprovoked violence.
ill have you know that my name is peggy, and im hot as hell
I will say I think its fair to rate the rape in this as less bad than Goldfinger becauee Goldfinger shows that rape is good. Both show a deplorable act but Goldfinger holds that act as critical to the positive resolution of the plot and thereby suggests that those who do so are in the right
20 minutes in and so far these assassins have deployed the cigar that kills you instantly, the trick shot speargun, and the gom jabbar. Flawless
“The gun that kills you instantly” made me laugh uncontrollably for three minutes straight.
Standing up for Liam as I recommend the snus that kills you instantly be added to the checklist
I just realised, the shisha that kills you instantly was used by Mr.Kidd and Mr.Wint at the end of Diamonds are Forever!
I assume that you've probably got a good lineup already for heist season, but if you've got any gaps I'd like to pitch The Illusionist (2006) - what if Edward Norton was a magician who becomes a necromancer but is maybe running a plot to overthrow the austro-hungarian empire, also Paul Giamatti is Inspector Zenigata
Speaking of being deadlier than the male, my fiancée and I are discussing the fandoms Abigail's gonna be exposed to after this summer's premieres. We're just gonna start offing transphobes at cons, don't worry!
You need to do Billion Dollar Brain. I'll try not to spoil anything, but it stars the man who played Austin Powers' father, is weirdly pro-USSR, and the villain is a Texas oil billionaire who's essentially J W Pepper played straight, to the point that his logo bears a strong resemblance to a wonky swastika.
Tony Abbott reference jumpscare warning
I'm with Dev! Especially Detective shows had nephews everywhere. Jessica Fletcher had like... ten or so. Also this movie rules simply for giving women the bond BABA BABAAAH lines. About time!
Thought folk might like to know that "Not needing a harem at Princeton" is almost certainly a deliberate reference to... cock-frotting, given that "Princeton rub" was 60s slang for just that.
A woman launching herself like a pussy-first Patriot missile desperate to intercept
I did enjoy this movie but I remember being pretty disappointed that what I thought was an evil organization of hot evil women bent on world domination and/or insurance fraud ended up being an evil guy bent on world domination and/or insurance fraud who only hires hot women.
Well now I feel a bit weird about being 24. Just not really sure what to do with that.
I come in here with an offering of a weird movie which idk how you could fit anywhere but a bonus. The 1998 film Knock Off directed by Tsui Hark, starring Jean Claude Van Damme. I think everyone would have fun tearing it down and analyzing it
Dick Johnson!!?!!? I imagine that the overlap of KJB listeners and Deadlock listeners is literally just me, but I had to stop listening for a few seconds to get Pulse shouting “DICK! THE COCK! JOHNSON” out of my head
There are DOZENS of us
My operation room, Codename: Operation Room
If you all would believe it ... Dick Johnson is the name of one of Australia's most famous racing car drivers
I dress up fancily for all my gooning because the psychiatrists keep asking me what I wear for it, and I don't want to seem like a slob.
Ridiculous that it's called the SCUM system but can't account for women commiting crimes.
I don't see a problem with that...
"some girls do"- me @ any terf
Watching this on Tubi and I have figured out what this dudes face looks like. He looks like Connery Bond and Mr. Bean had a kid.
Also Tubi is nonstop Hims ads, they are confident that I crave boner pills
At first, I thought your charity's mission statement was "Date All Da Women."
I mean, that too
OK I've mentioned it before but if you're doing Bulldog Drummond then you HAVE to do Bullshot! It's a parody these pulpy racist novels, as well as taking a swipe at the British class system. It was made for about £2.99 in the 80s, no one has ever heard of it and it's hilarious.
If you're getting into pulp, I'm salivating for coverage of Doc Savage. The books were written before World War ii, and he is unironically portrayed as the ubermensch and there is casual race science in them. They made a movie with that Tarzan actor Ron Ely. First book, the villain is described as "too handsome for a man" and the Doc and his crew are too heroic and scientifically curious to notice all the women throwing themselves at them. There's a line between Doc and a beautiful woman, shown in the movie trailer, that a trans podcast could make about 5 minutes of hay with.
oh christ i fuckin devoured those books when i was a kid, doc savage and his five amazing male companions and now i want to revisit them
I watched this last week because it's on YouTube for free and my observations were as follows: Oh I think the 1960s Woman Dysphoria is going to hit Nova hard this episode I wish Sylvia Koscina would shoot me with a speargun This torture scene is going to get a whole section of the episode to itself.
Holy shit, I did not recognize Richard Johnson from the (unfortunately pretty mid) Frank Sinatra/Gina Lollobrigida war film Never So Few. In my defense he spends the movie with a monocle and a dumb mustache.
Okay so the idea of a scene between Bond and M where M is just like "Listen here closely 007, our man 009 was killed under mysterious circumstances, and if we don't figure out what happened our insurance policy is going to shoot through the roof." - that's a great bit. I am now imagining a situation where, because the three of you have so extensively studied the bond and bond-alike genre, you produce a spoof film which involves a series of bits, maybe like a Leslie Nielsen flick. Like honestly maybe its not where you want to take your career (or maybe it is) but if y'all made something like this you would fucking kill it.
Leslie Fish did a good song based on the Kipling poem, on her album 'Horse Tamer's Daughter'. Look up Leslie Fish 'Female of the Species' on Youtube. Glad you're back, and don't get sick again Nova.
The only Leslie fish I've heard is the sci-fi syndicalist shanty "wobblies in space". I think I need to listen to more Leslie Fish
I will continue to say that it's wild that they've both not done ghost in the shell and aren't including it in the gay movie night
Glad you're back. Tell Nova she's not allowed to get Covid again
Expectations based purely on the episode art: HIGH.
