Hi, catching up after many months, LEO FROM STARDEW VALLEY, are you serious!? 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️ Incredible, Michael, bravo.
Aspic was the Wordle recently, and like Michael, I had never heard of it. Truly foul!
I'm just now catching up on the old podcasts. Ralph Lauren I am dyiiiiing. His real name is Ralph Lipshitz. 😭
Omg I’m just so glad some else did the fork dipping thing!!!!
MY GRANDMAS FRIEND PRICILLA HAD A DIET DINNER PARTY AND EVERYTHING WAS GELATINOUS THERE WAS TOMATO ASPIC AND A GELATIN SALMON SHAPED SALAD THING AND A WHIPPED GELATINOUS PURPLE DESERT
Idk why I’m yelling here but I’m Gen Z and I had to be like 8 when this happened. It was traumatizing. Priscilla would always offer us shit and say “it’s low calorie” or “it’s zero sugar” as if that would make it more enticing and I was always just thinking to myself that’s not the point, it looks like shit and probably tastes like how a funeral feels
I’m going to need you guys to bake all those recipes and live taste test every single one. Also… please can you do an ep on Freelee the Banana Girl? Is this a specifically Australian phenomenon or was she EVERYWHERE in the 00’s? We were obsessed.
Relistening to this episode and wondering which Tom is the king himbo of Vanderpump Rules.
Dude this was fun
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate you two. Mike, im always so impressed by the quality of the podcasts you produce, your intrepid journalism (reading the pdfs), and your brilliant analyses. Aubrey, I love listening to you talk so much. Love your laugh and your sassy intonations. You're voice is on my mental soundboard, instead of "well Good for youuuuu". Im a cis hetero white male who's never struggled with weight, so listening to you two discussing your perspectives has illuminated layers of empathy I didn't understand. I didnt understand my fatphobia and my biases around health, and the growth I've had listening to your podcast feels like a watershed moment in my life. Y'all have literally made me a better person. Thank you.
Almost ditto (brown cis female)
Have you all looked into Elizabeth Gilbert? She’s the author of Eat, Pray, Love and her new book she talks about trying to murder her terminally ill girlfriend among other things
Yes Aubrey and Michael PLEASE do Eat Pray Love!!! My mum took me to a “creativity workshop” of hers and it was legit white woman cult, getting people to relive their darkest traumas on stage, communal crying… we had to leave it was so freaky
Please please please vanderpump recap
Idea for a bonus episode: watch The Plastic Detox documentary on Netflix and drink every time there’s a right wing dog whistle.
Please do an episode on Clavicular and Looksmaxxing (?)
Please do something on the vagus nerve stuff that's suddenly everywhere!!
ugh love you two with Peter ❤️
Love the new episode with Peter, the three of you are great together. “Eat an egg, take a deep breath, and get in there” 😂
Also please for the love of god do THE 1989-1991 Measles Outbreak in the US holy shit. I am Pediatric ICU nurse w background in abortion, doula work, and MPH research etc. and this is one of all I think about all the time please
Sry couldn’t commend on new episode but when you google ceo w vesper first name it is a cis white man alao so now maybe we know why the beef was turning him on so much? Freaks
YES VANDERPUMP RULES RECAP EP!!!
By the way, the lady from SNL with the high voices is Victoria Jackson, and I’m pretty sure she’s a crazy Republican
I love these deep dives. Also commenting here to request Freelee The Banana Girl, Durian Rider and the frugivore diet. 🍌
Cher’s hair is incredible. ❤️ I LOVE the diet book deep dives. Thank you for this episode. :) Also: if you love VPR the DnD podcast “Real Housewives of DnD” is a great listen.
I’m so excited about Aubrey’s journey because I just finished vanderpump (at s11) and also can’t stop saying “this reminds me of something that happened on…”
lol they are not related Mike. Hear me out, less editing in future, this was great.
A friend of my elderly mother has served tomato aspic at her Christmas party every year for decades, and i think it really is pretty good, as long as you’re not expecting it to be something it isn’t. Perhaps its an acquired taste. Although, to be fair, her version does not have any chunks at all.
The idea that any of the VPR men are “himbos” and not just “greasy abusers” 😭 but also I very much need to hear Aubrey and Michael’s take on Scandoval and Stassi/Kristin getting fired and the original S1-3 plot of crazy Kristin
Fun fact about that Turn Back Time music video: it was the last time the U.S. Military allowed a music video to be filmed on their property (it was an aircraft carrier in this one) with active servicemen because they did NOT know Cher would be wearing that. I don’t think her straddling the cannon helped.
I mean sailors are famously prudish, it makes sense the military brass would want to protect their delicate sensibilities....
I actually made a tomato aspic for my retro foods Holiday Party this past year. It was basically a poppable cocktail sauce for my Shrimpmas Tree.
Today’s problematic noom article included this fun tip: “Order salad dressing on the side and lightly dip your fork in the dressing before each bite.”
Stardew Valley reference?!?!?!?!
I would trade my first-born child for an episode where Aubrey explains Vanderpump Rules to Michael. If Mike thinks the world sucks now just wait until he hears about Jax Taylor
Y'allllll so inspired by Mike and Aubrey when someone on Bluesky today linked Cher's Turn Back Time video I was like, whoa, I need to watch that (for the first time! Sorry in 1989 I was a poor tween and never have been a Cher fan) and OMG OMG OMG, that was incredible. No wonder conservatives lost their shit! I kept worrying the thong was going to slip where it shouldn't but on the whole, wow, amazing and also the happiest sailors on the PLANET
OMG a Web Mercator reference 🥰
Please please please please PLEASE A Vanderpump Rules episode.
I actually went to find a VPR podcast because I don't want to watch it but am morbidly curious about the happenings, but... but... I want to hear Mike and Aubrey talk about it!!!
I'm sorry, but the lack of knowledge of tomato aspic implies to me that neither Aubrey nor Mike know about B. Dylan Hollis, and I can't live in that world. So here you both go: https://youtube.com/shorts/rEL9HpF__k8?si=0xXT9M6ioNt-FyNC (Apologies to those of you in the comments who like tomato aspic - the verdict in this video is not too positive, but, to each their own.) Also if you find yourself with three hours to kill and no desire for world news, there are compilation videos of all his shorts up to sometime last fall. No I definitely have *not* used them to fall asleep at night because they're wholesome and delightful, not at all...
I love him! I also like how he always gives us his honest opinion of each recipe.
Was not expecting the stardew valley reference mid-pod 😂
I looked up foldable trampoline. And there goes my algorithm.
It brings me so much joy that Aubrey will /not/ let Mike live down the Courtney Love bit 🤣🤣
Imagine you're Cher and you're packing a blender and a mini trampoline - what is it even all for at that point? Be Madonna and do a book about how you're really horny instead.
NO THE INCREDIBLES!! I LOVED THAT MOVIE
Get this to Mike: Stay F Homekins pod does recaps of two other reality shows. Super fun! 😊
The stardew reference valley is my favorite
Came here to say this!
Babes I’m crying outside of both sides of my mouth rn
Yall. Let’s do an episode about “Food Noise.” It’s the hottest new phrase in diet culture and my rudimentary googling suggests it may be bulllshhhhhiiiit
I’m curious what makes you think that? I definitely think there are people out there that use it as a woo thing, but as someone on a glp1 my experience with it has been very real.
I love you guys so freaking much, this episode freaking MINISTERED to my withered little soul rn 😂
Loved this ep! Please feel free to leave in more meandering side quests and laughter in the main eps, it’s so joyous
Michael, you are not alone. I, too, thought they were related. 🤣🤣🤣 I'm 42 & I had to DuckDuckGo many references, but I blame this on my weird obsession with Phantom of the Opera when I was 16, it kind of derailed my ability to care about celebrities. 🤣🤣
I love 🦆. VPN for the win!
Michael's description of the features that made him "straight" for Victoria Principal might be the gayest thing I've ever heard. 😂
*actively googling Victoria Principal at 35 years old*
One to maybe include in a future variety pack episode is the diet advice in 'The drummer and the great mountain', supposedly a very good book on living with ADHD. Ive read bits of the book but the food section felt really insane cause it's based on protohuman diets or something. Might just be paleo but was strange to see in that depth in a book on ADHD
I'm so happy Michael has discovered the joys of Bachelor recap podcasts. All my favorite podcasts are intersecting!
Check the reality recaps on other shows on Stay F Homekins!
THE MONEY I WOULD PAY FOR “EXPLAIN VPR TO MICHAEL”!!!
I make tomato aspic regularly and it is delicious. The key is no chunks of anything.
Aubrey : "we're going to talk about three diet books from the '80s" Me: (in the style of Napoleon Dynamite) "YES!"
The money I would pay for a VPR TLDR episode.
The ending of this episode made me laugh so hard. We are all still suffering from the policies/mindset of the 80’s and maybe it is because everyone was so HANGRY 😂
Steamed celery??
Steamed everything in the early 90s
"'The Long 80s'-- that's what historians say" 😂
PLEASE do a VPR episode! I too rarely watch reality TV, but I’ve been watching VPR from day 1 and I’d LOVE to hear y’all’s assessment of all the drama.
So happy that Aubrey is watching VPR because EVERYTHING actually does related to VPR!!!
mike finding out that sophia loren & ralph lauren are not related is me finding out like last year that micheal hobbes is not actually a trans guy ..... & i couldn't even go "yes king!" bc i refuse to think that about/to a cis man also, aubrey, please talk at us & mike about trash!!
Me, an Australian: Do I really say ‘videoy’?
I need the Audrey vpr recap episode so bad I would spend so much money on that pls
My house was so anti salt growing up. Memory unlocked
Upset that Aubrey didn't know to tell Michael that Ralph Lauren was born Ralph Lifshitz
Aubrey’s VPR recap episode would heal me…PLEASE!
I am BEGGING for an ep where Aubrey explains vanderpump rules to Mike.
Omg PLEASE give us an Aubrey explains Vanderpump Rules episode!!!
Spicy V8 Aubrey YES!
Grateful for Michael’s squeal of horror at skinning chicken. A few months ago, my MIL offered to cook us one of our fave roast chicken recipes; lo and behold, it showed up to the table skinned, and when we mentioned that we don’t usually do that, she said “I’m a dietitian, I just can’t go against my professional judgment!” My husband (her son) constantly struggles to keep weight on, and I was nursing a newborn at the time. Also, chicken skin is delicious!
Yes! I made the best skin on chicken thighs for my in-laws and they took the skin off of them! It was the best part! I was so sad for them
Love Vanderpump rules and would die if Aubrey gave her every thought about it
TOM SCHWARTZ, Principal Himbo 👏👏👏 (I would very much love to hear Aubrey tell Michael about the vacuous Shakespearean drama that is VPR)
leo from stardew valley was not on my maintenance phase bingo card 😭
Fun fact: Ralph Lauren actually changed his name. It was originally Lifschitz and he changed it to Lauren as a teen. So he def is not related to Sophia lol
The whole family changed their name! My dad was friends for a number of years with Ralph’s brother, Lenny. Yes, Lenny Lauren.
What happened to thing of making Michael watch reality TV?
I really need a vim hof episode.
In the interim, here's Behind the Bastards: https://open.spotify.com/episode/46v0Yz2qu603DLnX8RVcfS (As a Dutch person, seeing his first name misspelled as an old-fashioned cleaning product made my day better)
Obviously, don't do a crash diet, don't recommend crash diets, don't promote crash diets, etc. But why are there no prisoner-of-war crash diet recipes that are like, "Here are complex and exciting spice mixes to rub on your saltless tofu and marinate your skinless chicken in"?
Mike stardew valley mention okayyyy
Why does everyone want Aubrey to talk about Vermont Public Radio?
“Even your ankles got fat.” I still think of this quote from time to time…500 years later. The 80s. Such an amazing time for body acceptance ;)
I need Aubrey describing Scandoval to Mike, like immediately. Get Peter from IBCK too since he loves reality TV too (check out his Traitors discussion with the ladies over on "Love to See It" a couple of months ago
Spicy V8 and babybel cheese!! is!!! elite!!
And STILL I wait for the Suzanne Sommers episode...
Listing off all of the diets I did... That's the episode. I love it. But ugh.
Definitely related to Aubrey thinking a lot of this diet behavior was normal. I still do the fork salad dressing trick or get it on the side (why?!) and remove skin from chicken. Old habits die hard. Does anyone remember putting a paper towel on pizza to soak up the grease? Did this religiously from 1990-2005 at least. And in college we loved Diet Coke and those big buckets of red vines from Costco because they were 0 fat!
In college we went to TCBY every day because their froyo was 96% fat free! Even my ankles got fat.
I love Cher so much I'd probably try her diet just for cuz. I used to occasionally do her step routine before I got rid of the VCR and can confirm it was pretty fun (for stepping).
For the love of God what's VANDERPUMP!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🧐🧐
yes! this episode was so good! prime Aubrey and Mike banter plus bananas diet culture stuff WOOO HOOO please make more like this and less like Russell Brand. I'm really baffled as to why you did a show on him at all, let alone a 2 parter
Millennials know what Dallas is... because they watched that one episode of The Office where Darryl, Kevin, and Andy play the Dallas board game We had Butter Buds growing up. Didn't make anything taste better, not even sure it made anything taste like butter That definition of sunk cost fallacy isn't... wrong I guess.
I have barely started the episode and never comment, but had to come here to please please please request that the "Aubrey explains VPR to Mike" episode happen ASAP.
I need Aubrey to explain to Mike what Scandoval was 🤣
your podcast is so great
I absolutely LOVE V8. I will fully just chug it. Aubrey said spicy V8 with a BabyBel and my head almost exploded. That sounds like the most incredible snack in the world. I cannot wait to do this!
what's even better is that it's Ralph Lifshitz
I know, I hope someone tells Mike!!
In Cher’s defense, she was flat broke at this time. Sonny Bono had left her with absolutely nothing. She was pretty honest at the time about doing all this stuff because she needed the money.
Umm, as a reluctant member of the bubble, I have to raise my hand and say for some of us, it’s deeply weird and unsettling. And I’m finally identifying myself and commenting because one of my bubble stories relates directly to Sophia Loren. I was at an Italian American awards gala as the plus one to a guy I was dating where she and a bunch of other notables of that heritage were honored. Before we arrived, his one request was that I stay away from Robert De Nero. But the surprise that my date did not hesitate to point out was that I was the only other women besides Sophia in the room who was continuously interrupted and asked for pictures all night, even during dinner. As a die hard 30 Rock fan (who watched the original run with my first husband who said he felt he finally had a term for me and who’s now married to a man and with friends who just say ‘bubble’ when they see ‘the bubbling’ happening) I can only say for some of us it’s a mind fuck. She’s Sophia Loren! It’s one thing when people ask for pictures when you’re just walking about. But Sophia is in the room! When she’s in the room, who the hell am I? Btw— I always feel so sorry for those people. Because it was before digital cameras and when they got those shots developed I can guarantee they were confused by the awkward faced girl randomly in their camera roll. And I have been asked to model while walking down the street. One of the times it happened, I was with a lovely gay man that I’m still incredibly close with. He laughed so hard he said it was the best ab workout he’d had in ages.
VPR! VPR! Pleeeease— give the people (me) what they need
Are we going to get “Aubrey explains Scandoval” bc I neeeeeeeeed it
Holy shit. You mentioned Butter Buds and probably my oldest childhood diet memory was unlocked and now I’m spiraling…. Woah.
LOL. The thing that always tickled me about South Park was the character name Principal Victoria. I hope somebody is making that connection due to this episode.
You know the next Patreon episode has to be taste testing all those Cher recipes ...
I plead being born in 1994 for thinking Ralph and Sophia were in fact related or married
Checking in as the person who did think Sophia Loren might be related to Ralph Lauren 😅 I had never seen it spelled!
for the love of everything PLEASE DO VPR
I have never seen it, but I feel like I, too, need Aubrey’s VPR take in my life.
If I didn’t fully comprehend that Michael isn’t a “fashion gay” his assumption that Bronx born Ralph Lauren was related to Sophia
I can almost forgive Loren/Lauren because name-dropping Swoozie Kurtz is top tier
much prefer the unedited versions
Michael’s “EW” at the end cracked me up.
PLEASE EXPLAIN VANDERPUMP TO MICHAEL my two worlds colliding ugh
A Vanderpump Rules recap from Aubrey is the only way I’ll ever be able to understand what “Scandoval” is and why so many people were talking about it
LIKE PLEASE I NEED THIS ESPECIALLY WITH HOW IT COLLIDES WITH SECRET LIVES OF MORMON WIVES!!
I was a teen in the 80s. Can confirm this is how it was.
PLEASE EXPLAIN VANDERPUMP TO MICHAEL. I need him to experience tom sandoval
Unable to add a picture but a jewel of my cookbook collection is ‘Cooking for Cher’ by her personal chef Andy Ennis
I think Sophia makes a good point that "beauty" includes a good personality. Think about the Internet celebrity "Clavicular", for example. He's a good looking kid, but you can tell he would be the WORST to be around, and once you know that I'd argue it's hard to "see" him the same way. (Not trying to pick on him, he's young so hopefully he'll grow out of his weird attitude, it's just the first example that comes to mind). I would also agree with her that most of the celebrities who are most famous for being hot have charisma as well. Their good looks don't hurt, but a lot of actors or musicians who become icons really seduce us with charm as well.
That prononciation of Mercator was crazzzzy
joe rogan of the left: we all should be going mask for mask
Why is the Cher fitness ad in a New Zealand accent? 😭😭
Probably cos they redubbed it to screen in NZ?
Aubrey doing VPR recap would change my life. It is ground zero for reality 😭
Same! I did a full series binge last summer and I’m still obsessed!
My mom's favorite "salad" is a tomato aspic. She makes it multiple times a year. I usually skip it, but it's not as bad as it sounds. Hers is lemon jello, tomato juice, onion, green olives, vinegar, and celery. Growing up the other regular jello "salad" at family dinners was lime jello with cottage cheese, pineapple, and green olives (green olives are my white family's raisins).
Green olives are also my white family’s raisins!!!!! We were never raisin people but damn if those green olives didn’t show up everywhere. There are dozens of us!
RECAP VANDERPUMP RULES PLEASE! But it needs to be the episode where Sandoval ditches Ariana, his girlfriend, on her father’s death day to drive bulldozers 😆 “But it’s like… bulldozers, babe”
I only experience shows like the Bachelor and RH shows via snarky recaps
Fine! I will vote for Reagan!
As a 58yo elder stateswoman of this audience- I say bring on the ABC movie of the week celebrity diets EVERY MONTH. I need the closure since my subscription to Shape magazine is no more.
I did Cher’s workout tape pretty much every day in high school. Loved it lol
I think Aubrey needs to host Mike for a dinner solely made from recipes from these diet books. Then record it.
Record it? This needs to be a docuseries.
VANDERPUMP RULES YESSSSS
I assume the answer is that crash diets want you to just hate food/eating or maintain some semblance of “virtue” or “clean” eating, but I’ve never understood why these diets haven’t relied on recipes from historically food-insecure countries. Like, a lot of very flavorful and even spicy cuisines were developed because spices can (1) make you feel fuller and (2) conceal the flavor of old/rotten ingredients (same with fermentation, which is also good for your gut). Not my goal (bc it would still be wrong and unhealthy), but if you’re gonna come up with an extreme low calorie diet, there would seem to be a huge universe of ways to make it flavorful and interesting instead of painful and joyless.
Ah! But if it's not painful and joyless, however would you know how much shame to feel??
Veteran of the 80’s here. Carbo loading was huge and pasta was Queen.
I need to know who Mike married in Stardew Valley now!
Yes! I want an episode dedicated to Stardew Valley
Omg omg omg VRP recapppppp
Ha I was looking for Russel brand pt 2 ...but this is gonna hit the spot 😍😍😍
Way more moaning from Mike in this episode than usual!
im gonna watch this later. is there any possibility of doing a video on intermittent fasting and like ai diet and exercise ads. ive seen a lot of bizarre ones on tumblr but thats also bc the ai makes it completely unintelligible
Watch? Video?
I loved this episode! I actually own the Cher book, and the only thing you left out is when she says, "If people can survive the Holocaust then you can quit smoking." Not cool, Cher! Also the constant mentions of something called "Butter Buds." ☠️
I haven’t listened yet and I just saw the pic of Cher and… guys don’t ruin Cher for me! I love her. She’s so sassy and has an age-inappropriate boyfriend in a really cool way. 😕 Her quote “mom I am a rich man” is the best. I’m gonna listen but I’m stressed. 😫
I can relate to Mike and The Bachelor recaps. Nothing like listening to someone smart and funny recap a show/movie I'm never going to watch lol
Yes!! I'm very partial to Ashley Norton's Bachelor recaps, despite never having watched a single episode myself lol
MEAN WOMEN AND HIMBOS yes please do a VPR episode!!
Mean Women and Himbos should be that episode's title
I swear to the gods that TV commercials back in the 80s said Ralph Lore-ren.
OMG Mike, are you listening to Game of Roses?
Omg, PLEASE do a VPR episode 🤣🤣🤣 A MP/Watch What Crappens crossover is the thing I never knew I wanted but now I absolutely need!
Justice for tomato aspic! I made it from a cookbook a couple of years ago mostly out of curiosity and it is GOOD. It has tomatoes, sugar, and a ton of lemon juice, gelled with agar agar, and no one thinks it will be good but it is. I make it every summer now
I could see it. Like pepper jelly or a gelatinous gazpacho?
Aubrey telling Mike about Vanderpump would be hilarious
i kind of genuinely believe that cher is a benevolent 400 year old Eldritch being. and additionally, I choose to believe that zero autotune was used for Believe, her voice just sort of aged like that.
Oh Michael! I can't stop laughing at Sophia Loren being related to Ralph! It's 5 min episode and I am hauling laughing 🤣🤣🤣🤣 love you both! "How am I this dumb and I host podcast " broke me 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, that was so funny. If there was a 'how am I this dumb and I host a podcast' t-shirt I would 100% buy it, it's a great line 🤣
Nah, the crazy Sophia Loren fact is that she's got the Mussolinis as in-laws cause her sister made the bonkers decision to marry into that family in the 50s or 60s.
Crazy! Did not know that
Cheese food? I didn't know we had to feed our cheese!
I thought I remember Cher doing a slimfast ad... I saw this equal ad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSqDXqcv0DE
I couldn't find slimfast ad from her.
Don't worry Michael I thought Sophia Loren was related to Ralph too but then I realized it's Sofia Coppola who's related to Francis. Easy mistake imo.
To add another link to this chain: Nicholas Cage is also a Coppola.
"Why no tomatoes?" "i d o n ' t k n o w"
Bah ha ha "least requested episode" I love you both! 😂
I can't believe Michael mused on "what food has loads of fibre but very low fat" and Aubrey didn't jump in with the bean gospel
Literally my first thought. Haha.
I'm staying with my dad right now and he came rushing in thinking I had screamed when in fact I was only howling with laughter about the "sunken cost fallacy." I played that part back for him and he enjoyed it. Now on to the rest of the podcast ...
I need to hear Aubrey’s reaction to the old Vanderpump Rules where Tom Sandoval complains about “cyst” dudes getting blamed for everything these days. It’s a NEED, not a want.
this has nothing to do with diets, but I work at the zoo and we have a donkey name Sophia Loren she lives with our zebra Zari lol. our Sophia definitely does not watch her girlish figure and I love that for her. She hasn’t unbothered queen with so much stress and attitude.
Loooove donkeys!
I mean King Himbo isn't ENTIRELY wrong about sunk cost 😂 also I would listen the HELL out of your recap show!
Oh me too, friend. Me too.
"I think people think that they have much more control over their body than they really do." YUP, ask any of us who got cancer young despite doing all kinds of things "right" by our doctors' and society's metrics! Nothing like cancer or a chronic illness to shatter your illusion of control.
OH NY GOD i also do not watch the bachelor but I LOVE bachelor season recaps. it’s so nice to know i’m in good company.
That Cher gym commercials brought on some terrible flashbacks. Especially because I have had thick legs and ankles all my life and was made fun of in school. When I watched that as a kid and the even your ankles got fat...fuck the pain to my self esteem. But it was a great episode because now I know I wasn't being irrational taking all these messages about being skinny so damn hard. Disclosure I've been fat all my life.
My mum took me to the doctor because of my "fat" ankles, did I have water retention, the doctor had to explain just genetically thick legs to her!
do it dulcissimo, do it slowly 😂😂
It took me a solid 3 minutes to understand that you were talking about Sophia Loren because I did not expect this pronunciation! 😂
No one puts carrot in salsa! It has no place in aspic. Eeeek!
🚨🚨🚨AUBREY WATCHING VANDERPUMP RULES 🚨🚨🚨 This is affirming as I am also rewatching the show
Have you watched Southern Hospitality? I feel like Vanderpump walked so these kids could run . . . to a hotdog event where they have a panic attack because someone said their fiancée cheated on them.
LEO FROM STARDEW VALLEY?!?? ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
The way I said out loud, “what the fuck Michael” about the Ralph Lauren thing. Original experience.
i died. The Jew fashion designer from New York and the Italian movie star are totally related now in my mind
I definitely read your sign off as “Manda” with this intonation:“ ‘Manda! 💋✌️”
An Aubrey recap of VPR is my wildest dream come true
"how am I this dumb and I host a podcast" arguably, I'm kidding I'm kidding
Michael if you’re into The Bachelor recaps you gotta watch Ethanimale’s big brother season recaps on youtube. Specifically The Floater: How Jun Song Won Big Brother 4. As a person who also doesn’t consume any reality TV i find these soooo interesting.
Pls do vanderpump episode!
This whole episode was a flashback to my high school years, especially the gym ads. When you were talking about Sophia Loren in full makeup and working out, I had a very clear memory of my high school basketball team in the mid 80's when one of my teammates played games in full makeup and panty hose.
This was classic Maintenance Phase — so much fun. I’m a GenXer and can confirm we were all hangry with giant hair in the 80s.
The perms!😳😂
This is totes random but over the last few years, Mike has been referencing 9/11 as a terrorist attack and it never ceases to amaze me that the obvious thing (9/11 was not a terrorist attack but an inside job for insurance purposes to be precise) is not something that all intelligent Americans recognise 👀👀
Last comm- my all time favorite diet comes from Joan Crawford. She wrote a book called My Way of Life in 1970, and talks about how when she first came to Hollywood in the 1920s, the style was the very thin flapper look. Her diet is insane- she advised eating like a cracker, then lying down very very still to make muscle mass and fat melt away! Her other crazy advice was, “when you have your dress custom made, save a 1/2 yard extra fabric so you can have your shoes covered with it.” Again, it’s 1970. Oh, Joan. Oops, comment, not comm. Stupid autocorrect.
Omg please please please do a Vanderpump Rules episode!!!!
This would heal me
Also, Ralph Lauren was born Ralph Lipschitz, and famously changed his last name to Lauren because it was a better fit for the waspy American image of his collections.
Aubrey, talk about VPR all you want!!! Might I suggest Southern Hospitality next?
Haha, I just recommended this in another thread. Those kids are so messy.
*googles "Dallas" in millennial*
THE PLEASURE PRINCIPAL. Mike, how DARE you call yourself a gay man.
PLEASE tell me that Mike is listening to Bachelor in Retrospect
Mike I’m so sorry but you are maybe the only person in the world to think Sophia LOREN and Ralph LAUREN are related 😭😭😭
I'm not even 5 minutes in and I'm laughing out loud. Michael I'm sorry you're sick but this is such a nice break from everything right now!
My partner and I have been watching Vanderpump Rules for the first time so i was thrilled to hear it mentioned. PLEASE, as others have said, explain to Mike all these wild character arcs people go on in this show.
Oh boy! You have quite a ride ahead!
the fork dressing thing gave me an absolutely wild flashback to learning to eat salads that way from my mom. eventually she evolved to ordering salads “lightly dressed” but dear lord
I still do this when the dressing comes on the side…
Okay, I like Cher, but don't come for Marion Barry. He absolutely could be Mayor after that - he was reelected. Marion Barry Mayor for Life!
I live in the DC area, and Marion Barry is looked at very fondly around here
"It's like PB2 but without the decency to just be a powder." haha I love it, you guys are my brain spoken out loud, but way better.
$24 is what Planet Fitness, the cheap gym, costs today!!!!!!
Michael murmuring "Anthony Perkins" lustfully will occupy a lovely little shrine in my mind forever.
I was fully expecting a "Stop making sex noises!" from Aubrey when he did that. 🤣
I was an absolute pro at the salad dressing on the side/ dipping my fork eating plan along with sprinkling a packet of sweet and low over my food so I’d stop eating. 😬 What a time to be alive.
Please do a vanderpump rules bonus episode 😭
The blue cheese salad dressing reminded me of how my mom made ranch in the early aughts - a packet of ranch spices mixed with skim milk 😭😭 that’s it, that’s the recipe.
I'm a Midwesterner, so I consider that a hate crime against ranch dressing
Here for the True Lies reference at 6:43 👏
I sat IN 2014 watching a group of women friends eating salads dipping their forks in the dressing. That shit stuck with some folks.
When Aubrey said she was watching VPR I gasped so loud it woke up my dog. PLEASE explain it to Michael where we can hear!!
This is me pleading for a VPR episode! Also I’ve watched the series several times and don’t remember the “sunk cost” malapropism but am tickled that “arguably king himbo” could apply to like, three different dudes depending on your perspective.
I started googling because I too didn’t remember and was like hmm which one was it… any of those dummies could have said it 😂
Michael did a brand new sentence when he thought Sofia Loren and Ralph Lauren were related
He’s so confident when he’s wrong 😆
PLEASE do a VPR episode!!!
Idea for a bonus episode: 3 course taste test starting with A. the worst & wildest diet food you've ever heard of, followed by B. the best worst diet food (as in hey this might be kind of good?) and ending on C. Just one of your favourite recipes to share with us ❤️
PS I promise this is not fetish content for me because it does not in any way involve Donatello (the Ninja Turtle, not the Renaissance sculptor) or Donatello (the Renaissance sculptor, not the Ninja Turtle)
I want that gym membership to be fair and at that 80’s price!
Please recap VPR! I need to hear Michael’s reaction to scandoval
Imagine him sitting through a Raquel thought forming out loud.
I remember a big escandelo when Joan Rivers gave out Victoria Principal's phone number on air. Sophia Loren's beauty book gave the best parenting tip; Whenever someone gives you unsolicited parenting advice say, "OH you're so right, I must try that," and then do what you know is best for your baby.
leo?? do you mean elliott? my HUSBAND??
yes, a fellow Elliot lover! He's so romantic, the only one worth considering :-)
i feel michael would love to learn about scandoval 🩵
PLEASE we need this. for morale. I know MAHA stuff is important but for our collective mental wellbeing, a scandoval ep
Thank you for not doing more MAHA stuff. This episode is fun!
I’m so tired of giving headspace to the worst people in the world.
anyway, get well soon mr. Hobbes
Yay, an episode featuring celebrities I’ve actually heard of!
Haha love this!! And as someone who refuses to watch any Housewives or Bachelor stuff yet is appallingly addicted to falling asleep to "Botched" clips on Youtube because of my...mental stuff...(it was a whole process of rabbit holing! Started by researching Lipedema surgeries which took me to Lipoma removal surgeries which took me to Popaholic vids which took me to Botched vids...and I started as a super squeamish person who couldn't even look at my own wrist cos it has v**ns in it!!! LOL I'm ridiculous.) Anyways...I would be down to listen to YOU two explain it to me so I don't have to, yet am able to understand the cultural fascination with it all. ALSO, I am very, very keen on any research deep dives you might have done on Lipedema and long term outcomes n all that. Less fun that one! Lots of love, thank you for being y'all. This episode was lovely and calming time away from writing Artist Statements about how to be anti-AI and save all human creation. 🙄 Always was, always will be: 🪃⚫️🟡🔴
The "My nickname used to be toothpick!" also doesn't resonate with me not just because it comes with the "So I get it", but because usually when I've seen women with nicknames that highlight how thin they are that while it might be slightly mocking, the reason people feel comfortable using that as their nickname is because as a woman, being thin is basically always seen as a huge positive. Like, being teased for something does hurt, but as an adult woman who has lived in the world at all, you have to understand that being thin is mostly positives
When someone has to reference the period of them being unattractive as when they were an actual child, I know it’s time to check out.
the server queers NEED Aubrey explaining vanderpump to Mike I fear…
A Stardew Valley reference in my Maintenance Phase fix is why Im here. Thank you
That Loren/Lauren conversation killed me! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
PRUNE JUICE! It's a warriors drink.
I actually love the taste of prune juice. If I could drink it without consequences I would. I used to sneak the little cans my grandfather kept whenever we visited.
This is a wonderful gift as I'm listening to old MP episodes while unable to sleep
same!
Vanderpump Rules x Maintenance Phase crossover, am I in heaven 😍😍
Elder Millennials who watched Dallas reruns on CMT(?) represent 😆
I watched them when they aired because my parents did not care (in a good way) about age appropriate TV lol
First comment here too RAAAHHHH
You are on a ROLL! 👏🏼
