I spent lots of time in the Rio. You can get cheaper marinas and labor is extremely cheap. Use the Rio dulce cruiser Facebook group to find contractors. I will be sailing down this fall if you need anything from the Florida. Don't pay for work in advance and oversee the work closely.

You've got this, guys. The hardest part is the fairing/sanding/prepping/painting, so the good news is that one hole or a hundred, it's [approximately] the same amount of work. So glad the kitties and yourselves are safe and well. We'll be pulling for you. A DIY tip from a crew that's been there: We fabricated a longboard from a sheet of plywood, a sheet of PVC (for the sandpaper adhesive to stick to better), and a couple of big, cheap door handles. It actually worked great for getting the hull smooth and sleek.

I had to replace most of my Raymarine in Trinidad in order to leave, I had high current run through the backbone cable while in the yard and lost most of it. New Plotter, New ACU, New course computer, new AIS, new autopilot controller, The total bill was $USA 8000.
