Mythic Magazine Podcast #22: The Campaign Crafter
Greetings Mythicists! I hope your month is going well and that your Player Characters don't get too distracted by social media.
It's time for another episode of the Mythic Magazine Podcast! This one is about creating and playing through game summaries using The Campaign Crafter from issue #63, randomly generating a multi-adventure narrative about traveling through time to stop a family of killers.
I've included the Campaign Sheet that goes with it as a downloadable PDF if you'd like to see it.
Happy adventuring! :)

I'm not sure I really vibed with this particular use of the Campaign Crafter. It might be because I think of a campaign as something epic or sprawling and this didn't particularly feel epic. It almost seemed like a single adventure that was then further broken into parts.
Yeah, I can see that. I worried about that midway through. I think part of the problem is I was rushing to get through a campaign to make it fit the podcast, so the adventures got summarized. This kept everything feeling small ... each adventure didn't get a proper and complete playthrough so they didn't get to grow. In hindsight, I don't think the Campaign Crafter is well suited for the podcast unless I were to stretch it out over multiple episodes, and that would be too much.
Any thoughts on how I might use Quest Waypoints (from MM 62) to add a more structured series of goals to a campaign? I have a vague sense of how I might use it, but I'm curious about how others might approach this.
I think one of the weaknesses is that the running influences and characters won't necessarily come up. This could be fixed with "keyed adventures", probably, but we got absolutely no Bitemporal Association shenanigans. Also, this reminds me of "The Devil in the White City".
Yeah, that's a good point, although the Crucial Character did show up. Maybe if I'd been playing this fully someone from Bitemporal would have appeared, but I like your idea of mixing in Keyed Events to make that more likely. That might even be something to consider where Running Influences and Crucial Characters include a Keyed Event that may trigger them each Scene, instead of relying solely on the Campaign Elements table to drawn them in.
I'm very reminded of a setting from the old GURPS Time Travel book, which was one of the books that first sparked my love of TTRPGs, so needless to say, I love this!
Yay, I'm glad you liked it :) I remember that book fondly, I have it on my shelf and still pull it out sometimes to read. Great stuff!
