I really enjoyed the article on the play styles! When I started solo roleplaying, long before I heard about Mythic and that solo roleplaying was actually a thing, I was simulating Play by Post games. PbP was my first experience of roleplaying, and I was enjoying it more than spoken roleplaying because I found the immersion to be better when playing by writing. But I was also very frustrated, because all games were grinding to an halt after just a few months, with posts becoming rarer and rarer, until games inevitably stalled. At some point, I figured it would be better if I was doing it alone. At the very beginning, I wrote a program that would wait for a random amount of hours before mailing to myself the last post I wrote, simulating the pace of PbP (when things keep moving 😅). And for each post, I was playing as an other character in the party. It was a fun way of playing, although with time, I decided to play all characters at once, using any one when I felt like it, and to play sessions at evening instead of short posts during day. Nowadays, I'm totally in the novelist category. It's just the best regarding immersion, in my opinion. Who needs to travel the world when we can just build up all the places and experiences we want with just a few lines? ^^ Plus, I enjoy discussion and the psychological aspect of characters interaction, and novelization is great for that. As for the time consuming aspect, it's easily sorted: I don't have a TV, that gives me a lot of free time. :P I find the "Inheritor" style really intriguing! I think I'll try it… if I every finish my current games. 😅
Very cool :) I love what you were doing with the one-person play by post. That's really clever. A while ago, I played Novelist style all the time. I agree, the immersion can be amazing. You're really dealing with every detail possible. I imagine not having a TV would help a lot lol The stories you're producing are probably better than any script you're going to run across :)
Thank you for your vulnerability in sharing your "MESSAGES THAT COMFORT ME" snippet.
Thanks :)
