RTX 4090 - New Hardware

Okay, let's write this post.

*The author stretches his fingers and starts typing*

Guys! I have a new computer, and it has the latest NVIDIA graphics card. It's awesome. Of course, we are talking about a level of hardware that's a little unreasonable for your average pc user. I wouldn't have upgraded if I wasn't earning money with my work. Seeing this monster next to me fills my heart with joy. My previous computer looks like its cute little brother.

The graphics card is the most important part for Daz (The program I create my art with). I upgraded from an RTX 3060 to an RTX 4090. For those uninitiated, let me explain... an RTX 3060 is already fairly awesome and more than enough for gaming. Maybe you don't get 120 FPS on a 4K monitor when playing on the best graphic settings, but on a full HD monitor (1920x1080, 60hz), it's more than enough.

The RTX 4090 that I have now is about the best on the market that isn't specifically created to be used in workbenches. So, it's right underneath the graphic cards that would be used to render Disney movies.

Some would probably disagree, but this level of hardware is completely unreasonable. Unless, of course, you are doing things like video editing or something like light or water simulations. If you are creating animations or renders that need lots of computing power, then it's a different conversation.

I'm doing renders. Usually, one image displayed in my game takes 20 minutes to render on my RTX 3060. The RTX 4090 I have now does the same thing in 5 minutes. Basically, the work I'm doing becomes a little less frustrating and a little faster. Yeah!

*The author's eyes turn into heart shapes*

There is more to it than I explained above, but I think everyone has a general idea about what this hardware update means (Better renders and maybe more significant releases).

I would love to come here and tell all my Patrons that without their support, I wouldn't have been able to upgrade my pc and that all of you allowed me to buy better tools to be a better developer. This is partly the case, but it's more complicated. I purchased this computer using my first paycheck from Steam. Still, I would have never been able to release my game on Steam if it wasn't for Patreon, which allowed me to see the potential in creating VNs for a living.

So I guess, in the end, I still owe you guys a big thank you. There is a good chance that if I had received less support, I would have given up on my dream of becoming a storyteller by now.

By the way, the image above was rendered using this new graphics card. Before, it would have been too big to fit. The RTX 3060 only has 12 GB of VRAM. The textures are too huge, and I could only render it using my CPU (which is sloooooow).

Luckily, the RTX 4090 has 24 GB of VRAM. Yeah! This means the image above only took 5 minutes to render to about 5000 iterations. On my previous pc, it would take 20 minutes, but since I wouldn’t be able to use the RTX 3060 to render it, it would fall back to CPU rendering, which probably would have taken 10 hours to render 5000 iterations.

*Again, the author's eyes turn into cute little hearts*

That's partly what I mean when I say that my work became a little less frustrating.

Also, I wrote Episode 3 of A Foreign World. I'm only missing about 100 renders and the translation. My life is kind of busy right now, so I won't make any predictions. I'm getting closer to releasing the next update, though.

Keep your eyes open. You might just hear from me again soon.

Until then, Enjoy!

No _you_ enjoy!! :-) There's nothing like that feeling when you have new hardware and watch how it crunches away and makes impossible things possible!

This is great news on so many fronts! Thank you for sharing it and glad we can be part of making your dream come true as you are an amazing storyteller!
