Other World - New Game
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll need to change the title of this one in the near future. It's definitely a work-in-progress. This is just how I named the folder on my laptop where I do most of my writing.
Another thing that is also a work-in-progress is my sales pitch, the way I would describe this project in one paragraph or two to someone that knows absolutely nothing about it. I'll still try, of course. My mom didn't raise a chicken.
The basic plot is about a group of women who grew up in a post-apocalyptic environment where your average person isn't too far off from being able to kick Superman's ass. One day they decided they had enough and left behind their homes to seek refuge in our world. Luckily for them, pretty much the first person they come across is our MC, that is kind enough to offer them some much-needed help.
Now, this game has some elements of just living together with a bunch of beautiful women, but because of its setup, it's much more than that. To give you an example so you understand the story's direction. The group of women, nine in total, already had a life that they are trying to escape. But this life isn't really interested in letting them go. There is one person, in particular, that is going to be a big problem. His name is Nathaniel. Early in the story, our MC has a chance to talk to this guy.
(N) "Now, this is actually funny. You probably don't even know the first thing about them."
(MC) "Tracy, Amber, Sally, Monique, Sue, Aurora, Megan, Esther, and Lucy. I know their names."
(N) "I counted nine. You think they even want your help?"
(MC) "I do."
(N) "Proof it."
(MC) "If you didn't knock out Tracy, we could have asked her."
The conflict between Nathaniel and the MC is a driving factor of the story. Still, it's not the only one. When nine women travel from one universe to another, you'd be hard pressed to say that this can happen without anybody noticing. The one who noticed on the MC's earth is the government. They picked something up on satellites they're not supposed to have, judged it as a threat, and now agents are coming after our pack of refugees to find out what the hell is happening.
Now you could think that this might be a lot to handle for a single guy, dealing with things on two ends, and you'd be right. Especially since you don't know half of the problems our MC needs to resolve, but it's not like he's your average Joe either (I call him Jack, btw.). I gave this story a lot of thought and don't want to spoil too much because one of the joys will be figuring out each character, including the MC. Still, let's just say that there are circumstances that make it possible for the MC to shoulder helping a bunch of refugees from a different universe, and leave it at that.
We are already a fair bit into this post. I should probably explain the picture that comes along with it. Recently, I've been working on putting together the characters and what you see above is the result of that. This time around, I decided to trust the professionals and purchase my models rather than customizing them myself. This might mean that you've already seen some of these faces in other games, but I have no doubt that all these unique characters will still manage to charm you in a unique and interesting way.
This game is probably going to be a monster, so buckle up. It's going to be a great ride. I was thinking about delaying this project for another few months, during which I could learn a few more things so I'd be able to do it justice, but I'm too excited to postpone this project. Even last week, when I should have focused 100% of my attention on personal matters, I couldn't stop myself from working on this game.
What did I do? I build a house! Honestly, I only started to build a house, but it already looks pretty neat, and I have enough preview pictures to give you guys an idea of how it might look when it's finished.
This is going to be where much of the magic will happen. The bathroom in the first picture is the first and only room that's already finished. For the rest, I still need to do a lot of work. One thing that might surprise you is that most of the house is made of cubes. You'd be surprised how far you get with only the primitives that Daz3d already offers you.
All this is well and good, but what's the progress? When can you expect the first release? Just imagine me laughing in a sad voice right now. It's going to need quite a bit of work for me to be able to release my first pilot version of this game. Do you know how a series has a pilot episode that sets the stage? Yes, I'd like to do something similar with this one. You could call it a demo, but I'm unsure if that word would do it justice.
I have written a bit over 7.000 words of the story, which might be half of what the pilot is going to include. I still need to create quite a few environments. The most complex is the house I've already shown you. There are a few more characters I need to put together. They all need clothes. Then they probably need a second set of clothes. Maybe a bunch of lingerie, who knows?
I need to learn a bit more about photo editing, home design, and government agencies (I'll watch Olympus has fallen. that should cover my research on the government side of things, right?). And when all that is set and done, I can start rendering out images, I can create a new and unique GUI design, program the game, put it all together, and release it. Sounds easy enough, right? Also, I forgot about the music and potential sound effects.
Hold my beer. I'll be back in a week!
No, of course not. I would take a bit of a risk and say... two months? If things go well. Maybe? It's hard to tell.
Anyway, I will keep you updated. I'll be active in the comments, so if you have any questions, ideas, or wishes, now would be a good time to present them.
Until the next time. Enjoy!
Edit: I changed the picture that comes along with this post because of nudity concerns.
