Development Update 51

I spend so much time creating the game, I sometimes forget that it's good.

Don't get me wrong. I have a decent grasp on what's good and what's bad about A Foreign World. When I say it's good then I mean something different. Humor me for two pargraphs.

For you my game is how long? Ten hours if you take your time? Maybe you played through it a couple of times. Some of you certainly did. And that's certainly a long time. Still, for me it's a little different. I've been working on this story since February 2022. And yes, that's accurate. In Februar 2022 I was already thinking about A Foreign World, its characters and potential storylines.

For three years I have my mind inside this story. Zooming out and looking at it from a third person's perspective is almost impossible. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to look at my work with fresh eyes. Hopefully in ten years, I will look back and I'm able to experience the story like others experienced the story. I think it would be fun.

So, the two paragraphs are over. I recently realized how far A Foreign World has gotten while looking at the image gallery I added last update. You can find there the best 188 images of the game. There are rarely two images from the same scene, so what does that mean? It means I have at least 150 scenes that I can look back on and that I'm proud of. That hit me earlier today and the feeling was absolutely fucking fantastic. Yeah, I think A Foreign World is pretty decent.

So what now? I'm pretty far into the next update. Basically done, but not really. I still have to add music. Also it's not like 2022 where I can just release an update when I think it's done. Give it two more weeks. One where I have beta testers look at it, and one where I have the translators work on it.

On Discord I was asked how many images Episode 6.5 will have. I estimated something between 250 and 350. I was wrong. It ended up being 22 animations in addition to 374 images. Sounds like a lot, right?

It kind of is.

You wouldn't know from the mere amount of words but this update is one of my bigger ones.

So where do we go from here? I often said that I will release updates every 1-3 months. I should probably correct this statement and say it will be every 2-4 months. This update was big, but I also didn't have many things going on in my life. Basically I was working on the update, and it still took three months to complete.

The next update will probably be even bigger and honestly, I doubt anything after that will be small either. The story has ramped up. The slow burn is over. On every new day, MC could advance the story of all of the girls and already some don't get the screen time they deserve. It's going to be fucking awesome.

Did you expect me to complain? No I love this sort of thing. It's a good problem to have.

It's bad for you, because you might have to wait a bit longer between updates. But it is also good for you, because every update will be a lot of fun.

Like Episode 6.5. There is a conversation that has 66 images (I almost got to 69). And it's not even boring. It might be one of the more interesting scenes this game has to offer.

Strap in. I really want to finish this game.

The only thing I'm a bit bumped about is that after two years on steam my sales have decreased by a bit. There isn't much I can do about that. Hopefully once the game is 100% finished I get some more visibility.
