Jessica Lee: We're back in the studio this afternoon with Rami, the drummer from local rock band Area 42! Welcome to the show, Rami.
Rami: Ey, thanks for having me on! Well, outside of the game, this time.
JL: Haha, yes -- this one is for the players at home, though I'm sure blurring the lines between what's in-game and what's out of game can be confusing sometimes.
R: Hell, that could be intentional!
Teri: It is.
JL: So, Rami; that's an interesting name. Is it short for something?
R: Yup.
JL: ...
R: ...
JL: Okay, so you're not just the drummer of Area 42, but sort of the de-facto leader of the band, right?
R: Yeah, kinda. The band started with just me on drums and a friend of mine on guitar, kinda trying to do a White Stripes thing, you know? Then we picked up Echo -- who has a ****in' killer voice -- and Anna on bass.
JL: But you've since switched out lead guitarists, is that right?
R: Mm. We did, yeah. She actually leaves the band about a week before the start of the game.
JL: Was there some kind of disagreement, there?
R: No, nothing like that. Well... yeah, there was, but the disagreement was over her leaving the band at all. She felt like she had something really important to do that would take her away from the band.
JL: And you fought about that?
R: Oh, man... yeah. Just her and I, though; she and I lived together. Hell, we were inseparable all our lives, like sisters. We clashed before, sure... but this was different. She really felt like she had to take off to handle this new thing of hers. I let her know my thoughts. Loudly. So she stormed out... and she hasn't been back home since.
JL: Goodness, she didn't even take anything with her?
R: Eh, she didn't really have much. I still have her stuff in her room, in case she ever comes back around. She can be pretty stubborn, though. Heh, like me.
JL: Well, I hope that all comes to a happy resolution. But this lead to you recruiting a new guitarist?
R: Yeah, her name is Ashe. We found her just in time, too -- someone booked us for a private gig and it'd suck to have to turn down the money because we lost a member. When we met Ashe, though... like all three of us just knew she was "it". Somethin' about her was just perfect, and she already knew all our songs.
JL: A fan turned member, then?
R: Absolutely!
JL: Now, judging by the timing of all this, I'm to assume that we'll see all of Area 42 in Chapter Two?
R: You got it! Our private gig is actually at the gala that Sylvia is hosting!
JL: Sylvia DuBois? The chair of the Fame and Nature Group?
R: Yeah, that's her! One of her people was a fan and got in touch with her, and the money was good. Real good.
JL: Now I'm not too familiar with how the Fame and Nature Group does galas, and don't take offense to this... but it seems like your band would musically be an odd fit for that sort of venue.
R: No, no, I feel ya -- when I got the call I had to ask the dude several times, like... "you know we're a rock group, right?" Like we're not some string quartet comin' to go through Vivaldi's Four Seasons. We got guitars and amps and stuff. But he was insistent, and like I said... the money. Holy damn.
JL: So what's the purpose of this gala, exactly? Fundraising?
R: Aaaactually, um... yeah, one of the reasons the money was so good is that we're not allowed to say a damned thing about it, other than we have it. Even the location is private -- we meet up and get taken there in a windowless truck so we won't know where it is.
JL: Well, that's mysterious!
R: Hey, rich people are weird. They paid half in advance, and the check cleared, so I'll do whatever they want. Well... within reason.
JL: I see! Well, I'm sure we'll see how that all goes down.
R: Ohhh, yeah... that gala is gonna be somethin'. I can't wait for everyone to see it!
JL: Oh, I can't wait, myself! So is there anything else you'd like to say to the players at home before we go?
R: Leave a review of the game somewhere! A lot of y'all are playing it, but reviews help spread the word!
JL: Sounds good to me! I'm J--
R: One more thing... to our former guitarist. I know you're gonna see this, and I just want you to know that you can come back home any time.
JL: Ahhh, an apology?
R: What? No, I'm not apologizing. We're just not done fighting about it, yet.
JL: ... okay, then! Thank you for being here with us, Rami! If we all survive the game, maybe we'll talk again in Book Two.
R: Yeah, thanks for hav--wait, what?
JL: And thank you all at home for tuning in! For WETT Channel 6 News, I'm Jessica Lee -- keep the legends alive!
