Bonus Project: Valentine Pinup Appliqué Templates

It all started with a novelty Christmas sweater! I created a series of pinups for my Christmas circle skirt inspired by a vintage Michael Simon sweater, and it proved so popular that I decided to reimagine them for Valentine's as a bonus Patreon project for February. You get a full "baker's dozen" (13) templates to choose from - my Christmas skirt features 12 ladies arranged around the hem.

I recommend making the appliqué in felt or other non-fraying fabric, and use embroidery or special fabric pen/paint for the finer details of the faces and shoes. Feel free to make these ladies your own - you can easily mix & match hairstyles, headdresses, and outfits, and add embellishments such as ribbon, trim, embroidery, beading, sequins and silk flowers to customise your project.

I haven't actually made up these Valentine templates in real life, but you can refer to the Christmas version for inspiration! Hope this helps, and Happy New Year to you ❤️

Love this, is the jacket also a make/sewing pattern? I'd love to make that too!

It’s not available as a pattern yet, but I do have plans for it in future!

Would it be possible for you to start up a Facebook page so we can post photos of the items we make from your patterns. Gertie has one called sew and tell which is very popular. It would be nice to interact with like minded people to share tips and advice.

What a lovely idea! I'll set up a Facebook group as you suggest.

This is so generous of you to share your applique designs. Will you be sharing your fun fair carousel horses applique at some point in the future? I love that one 🥰

I’ll see if I have the original template I used, and if so I’ll certainly share it at some point!

Illustrator is a vector graphics app by Adobe - I started out using it for fabric design, but I also use it to create my appliqué designs and sewing patterns! You don’t need it for the project though, the pdf contains all the printable templates. Have fun!

I cut the felt by hand, although I’m very tempted to invest in a cricut! And I’m pleased to say I do intend to release the Christmas versions too, later in the year ☺️ So glad you’re enjoying my Patreon content! ❤️

I LOVE these! 😍 do you have any tips for applying them evenly around a skirt? X

Because they're all slightly different shapes/widths I find it works best to do it by eye! But it will be helpful to mark out (with chalk, hand-basting or even just a piece of string if you lay the skirt flat) the lines of centre front, centre back and sides (if your skirt doesn't have side seams) to help get the spacing right.
