Pattern catalogue: Weldon's Book of the Bride and her Attendants

We continue wedding season with a bridal book from circa mid-1920s, a Weldon's pattern catalogue including a variety of quite lovely gowns for the wedding party.

The headline trend in bridal fashion was to take inspiration from the past:

Living in the perpetual rush and turmoil of the twentieth century, dashing from one thing to another, when what we like one week is out of date by the next and our slogan is “What is newest is best,” it is a curious and interesting fact that brides turn for inspiration for their wedding gowns to the romantic past when all was for the best in the best of all possible worlds. 

The gowns featured draw inspiration from mediaeval, Tudor, and Victorian eras, reinterpreted for the 'contemporary' Art Deco aesthetic of the day.
