🎲 Random Words. Same Energy. Bigger Impact.
After building random phrase learning, I noticed something.
The mechanic works.
The rhythm works.
The shortcut flow works.
So I asked myself:
Why am I not doing the same thing for words?
Now it exists.
And honestly — this might be one of the most practical vocabulary training modes I’ve ever used.
⌨️ Ctrl + Shift + Space
In the Vocabulary tab:
You filter words.
You pick your page.
You press:
Ctrl + Shift + Space
And boom — random word.
Same concept as phrases:
Random within your selected page
Controlled scope
No chaos
No full-database overwhelm
But this time — it’s pure vocabulary training.
🧠 The Big Realization
Learning 30K+ words in order?
Not motivating.
Not fun.
Feels like staring at a mountain you’re supposed to climb in one week.
And mountains kill momentum.
What actually works better:
Shrink the mountain.
Use filters:
Pick a Domain (for example: Travel ✈️)
Or choose a level range like A2–B2
Suddenly you’re not facing “everything.”
You’re facing a small, defined mission.
Something you can realistically finish in a few days.
Or even in one focused day.
Completion creates momentum.
Momentum creates learning.
🎯 Focus Mode — Automatically
When using the shortcut, I automatically enable Focused playback.
Because let’s be honest:
Listening to 10 seconds of video
just to hear 1 second of the word
is not efficient training.
Now the player jumps directly to the relevant moment.
You hear the word.
You repeat it.
You move on.
Clean.
Precise.
Fast.
🔁 Page Completion — Yes, It’s Here Too
Just like with phrases:
When you’ve gone through all 20 words on a page,
you get the popup:
“You have played every word on this page.
Play again or move to the next one?”
And yes — I added keyboard control for that too.
Because mouse movement is friction.
Escape → Play this page again
Enter → Next page
Zero hesitation.
Stay in flow.
🔄 Mix Words and Phrases
One thing I’ve been doing myself:
Study phrases for a while.
Switch to words.
Then back to phrases.
It keeps the brain fresh.
Phrases give context.
Words give precision.
Together — they reinforce each other.
It stops feeling like “studying.”
It feels like training.
⚡ Why This Feels Different
This isn’t scrolling.
It isn’t passive watching.
It isn’t a vocabulary list from 2004.
It’s controlled randomness inside a defined scope.
Small set.
Clear goal.
Fast feedback.
Keyboard-driven.
Try it right now on playphrase.me.
Filter.
Ctrl + Shift + Space.
Repeat.
Next.
Honestly?
This might be one of the most enjoyable ways to build vocabulary I’ve used.
Let’s build momentum 🚀
