š PlayPhrase.me is officially āWikipedia-adjacentā now (and Iām weirdly proud)
Hi patrons! Quick fun update from the world of cinematic archaeology šŗš¬
So⦠PlayPhrase.me got its own encyclopedia-style page.
Not on Wikipedia (lol, of course not)⦠but on Grokipedia.
Yes, really.
There is now a page that seriously describes PlayPhrase.me like itās some sort of important historical artifact from the Internet Age. And honestly? Iāll take it. š (Grokipedia)
What does it say?
It explains that PlayPhrase.me is a free AI-powered search engine that lets you type a phrase and instantly get short movie/TV clips where itās spoken. (Grokipedia)
It even calls out the ānot YouTube, but laser-focused quote searchā vibe ā basically:
less doomscrolling, more finding exactly what you need.
It also mentions that PlayPhrase is useful for:
language learning (the āwhy did nobody teach English like this?ā category)
vocabulary building
cinema research (yes, we are all scholars here) (Grokipedia)
And it includes the stuff you already know:
millions of phrases in the database
multiple languages
grammar levels (A1 ā C2)
free version limits searches
Patreon unlocks the āunlimited powerā mode ā” (Grokipedia)
Why this matters (unironically)
Having an external page like this feels like a small badge of legitimacy.
Like⦠we went from:
āCool niche site that weirdly worksā
to
āA tool described in an encyclopedia with references and headingsā
Thatās basically a PhD. šš
So yeah ā no Wikipedia page yet, but Grokipedia happened, and Iām choosing to interpret this as recognition from the universe.
Thanks for supporting PlayPhrase.me and helping it grow into something that random encyclopedias decide to āfact-checkā š¤āØ
(Next step: Britannica. Obviously.)

Is there any way to filter videos to prevent my students from hearing vulgar and obscene words? Similarly, with videos, many scenes containing the phrases I am looking for have inappropriate images.
I am currently creating two subdomainsāpg3 and kidsāwhich will not contain R-rated movies. I will publish this next week if I manage to do so.
Congratulations mate! While Iām here, is there any way to increase the handles on the clips? Even half a second or 1 second either side of the spoken quote? Thanks
