Informations - UE5

Hi . I would like to inform you that there will be no new update this month. I made myself a little free time. Also, sorry for not responding to comments too often. I haven't been active for a while and in addition there are quite a lot of you and I can't keep up with the messages. I've been working on other projects, including version 1.6 for UE5. But, unfortunately, not everything works properly on this version of the engine. The early version of UE5 is still underdeveloped, which is likely to cause a lot of bugs to emerge. Additionally, this engine generates much less FPS in the editor compared to UE4. Maybe someone has any idea why Unreal Engine 5 generates so many bugs? Among other things, the big problem is the Physic Constraint component that does not work properly.

Would you be interested in version 1.6  UE5 even though there are bugs? - Mainly I mean the problem that the items do not attached to the character and the ragdoll does not work (It looks as if it is blocked by a collision that I cannot locate).

Thank you for over 200 patrons :)

UE5 preview 2 is out now. Perhaps the bugs were already fixed.

Unfortunately it won't work.

Ruslan · September 2, 2021

Can you please tell us how we can disable cover system? Completely? And how we can disable rope system? Without breaking everything?

J
Jakub W · September 3, 2021

To disable cover system find component with name BP_CoverSystem , and disconect all events.

Hi can we get an update? I was just charged again.

J
Jakub W · September 1, 2021

I just published a new version :)

Evan X · September 1, 2021

Is there going to be an update this month for 4.27?

J
Jakub W · September 1, 2021

Yes :)

How about a multi wheel inventory like Metal Gear Solid V's with a wheel for primary weapons, secondary weapons, support weapons and items, where you hold the arrow keys to open each of the wheels and scroll wheel/right thumbstick to cycle thru that wheel and select on release?

Hello Jakub became a patron recently and enjoying learning your project, and have adapted many parts to suit my needs, few issues with the zombie though would like to change the mesh i currently use character creator 3 to make my characters for the human AI not having issues but the setup of the zombie hole different situation for me.. Question... have you considered making a Discord server so that patrons can troubleshoot and share project concepts and mechanics, this could help you and patrons for faster reaction to issues where someone that has an issue or resolved an issue can share in Discord. It has been very effective in other similar projects i am involved in.

Great idea.

Ruslan · August 21, 2021

Is any update this month will be released soon, Jakub? Vaulting, separate human AI, and UE5 support with fullbodyik is very needed;) Performance improvements also very important ;)

J
Jakub W · August 21, 2021

I am currently working on the first two changes. I hope to be able to share the new update at the beginning of next month. I will not be working on UE5 at the moment. I wrote about it in earlier posts.

hello again can you tell me where i should put a projectile spawner for bullet of weapons and where is the health logic for als character held so i can take damage from my custom projectile? i know how to do it i just cant seem to see where it all is exactly

Olamide David · August 16, 2021

Hi Jakub, I am currently having issues with the equipping of my new weapon, a double-barrelled gun, the gun is not attached to the player's hand when he tries to equip the gun. The gun instead snaps to his hand after the equipping animation plays.

J
Jakub W · August 19, 2021

Are you trying to equip it using the 'Update Held Object' function in the ALS_AnimManCaracter class?. To get different types of weapons, I only change the skeleton and assign them appropriate parameters (See the array variable called 'Rifle Assets' in the details panel). To the new version I am currently working on, I have already added the ability to change the pistol.

Peace Jakub. Not sure if this was just an error on my end, but sometimes it takes a LOT of bullets to kill a Zombie... other times, a headshot does the job. I'm working on a Survival Game, and resources are placed appropriately. However, sometimes a headshot doesn't work, and throws the gameplay off a bit. Any idea on how I can make the headshot always work?

J
Jakub W · August 19, 2021

Headshots do not always result in instant death. Weapons have varying degrees of damage. Perhaps that is where the problem lies. If not, then maybe there is a problem with the name of the hit bone. The damage is only greater if the name of the hit bone is 'head' and the neck bones are not taken into account. You can try to modify this function: https://snipboard.io/6PnzwI.jpg

I think Jakob you should concentrate on such mechanics like vaulting (with automatic jumping over), going climbing for example if you stay on bridge and there is bridge fence where you can climb, full body ik in UE5 (because it is future). Also nice architecture of code would be great, especially with Game Modular Features, where I can disable enable some of features. Performance is also issue, especially with AI, ropes and items connected to body with sockets are sometimes sticking somewhere in scene you it looks very weird. There are lot of bugs in weapon managment on character. Also I see on your videos no bugs or no strange issues by climbing, Maybe you give us not working project with issues?

J
Jakub W · August 12, 2021

The performance problem could be caused by your hardware or the UE4 configuration. In my case, when I run the game in the editor, the FPS are between 70-90. I have never had any bugs with the climbing system (dynamic). There were some minor bugs (which you see in some videos) but these weren't serious bugs. You also have to watch out for the number of AI. I tried to prepare Zombies AI so that I could place as many of them as possible. But a complex animation system requires more processing power. On a packed project, the number of ZombieAIs could be around 30-50 to keep the game at 60FPS. I am currently working on adding a new AI (human AI) controller so that only the player can use the ALS_BaseCharacterBP class. I've already added the Vault system (see on my YouTube). I will try to get the new update at the end of this month. But there is a lot of work and less and less time. Everything takes time and it is not easy to prepare such a complex game mechanics alone. Finally, I want to add that you cannot work with project on UE5. He is still in Early Access, so there are many bugs that prevent the game from happening.

So is there no update for this month?

J
Jakub W · August 12, 2021

Unfortunately not. The next update should arrive later this month.

PRP1986 · August 4, 2021

If my understanding of UE5's 'Modular Gameplay' feature is correct, it would be great if you could look at using this when you eventually do migrate things over to UE5....If I understand the concept correctly it could allow people to cherry pick which of your awesome gameplay mechanics they want to keep in their project without having to worry about dependencies.

R
Ruslan · August 4, 2021

Yes, of course, please make it as soon as possible, and use native full body IK from UE5.

F
FAHAD ALANAZI · August 2, 2021

yes why not

E
Evan Slater · August 2, 2021

Yes and no. Not until you get one that is stable. Ue5 uses full body ik, maybe that's the issue?

S
Simon Langevin · August 1, 2021

I would say no for the moment since UE5 is not at a stable state

E
Evan X · August 1, 2021

UE4 and make a PDF documentation of how we can remove features that we don't need.

T
Trinh Nguyen · July 29, 2021

Love the work you have done so far. Keep it up! I agree with the others, even though I would love to see it in UE5, it might be better to focus on improving current features or even adding new features than trying to fix potential issues you encounter with the early access version of UE5. :)

J
James Nicholas · July 27, 2021

Yes, stay with Unreal 4 for now - I am guessing no multiplayer replication support planned? Also inventory

P
PureChristian777 · July 25, 2021

I voted no and we also need a better inventory maybe a gta like wheel

E
Evan Slater · August 2, 2021

Radial inventory sounds nice.

UnknownSniper78 · July 25, 2021

Wait until ue5 is completly released and stable. Know i would work future in UE4. Its safe, stable and you can use it for many many months and years without any weird bugs. Please dont switch your project to the new ue5 version. Stay on 4.26 please <3 I think most people work on 4.25 and 4.26. So many people will get really frustrated with the newer UE5 version. Hope to see new update from you soon ! You have so much potential, good money from us supporters every month so please move the project forward for us in the actual stable unreal engine version

J
Jakub W · July 26, 2021

I will stay with version 4.26 :)

S
Steve Cox · July 25, 2021

I would wait as well. thanks for all your effort !!! Don't forget to add street fighting ;)

J
Jakub W · July 26, 2021

I'll see what I can do :)

Dan Krusi · July 25, 2021

I'm super interested in a UE5 version. Maybe IWALS can take the throne of ALS with full UE5 support?

J
James Nicholas · July 27, 2021

the creator of ALS is now working on the UE5 locomotion system apparently

N
Nigel George · July 25, 2021

Agreed, UE5 while having nice animation features such as warping is great… but the broken physics and rag doll makes even the standard ALS broken with UE5, best to wait until it’s more matured.

T
Tony · July 25, 2021

I agree

A
Ahmad Jadallah · July 25, 2021

Hello Jakub, I voted no as it is (in my opinion) better to wait for the proper UE5 release in early 2022 while continuing to develop the feature set for UE4 in the meantime. In particular I would like to see additions such as: - New weapon types (Grenade Throwing, Minigun/Gatling Gun, Mounted Turrets, RPG, Flamethrower, Shotgun) - Horse Riding (with the ability to shoot weapons and arrows while on top of the horse) - Swimming - Crafting - Hand to Hand Combat and improvements to current mechanics such as: - Shooting (UI Feedback such as hit indicator, bullet trails, Magnetism) - AI (Spawning Waves, Varied Behaviours such as seeking cover, progressing slowly toward the player, flanking, Group Coordination so they can detect if an group mate is killed or shot at) - Climbing System accuracy (The current system does not work as smooth as it should or as it shows in your earlier videos from what I can see) - Shooting from Climbing State - Takedowns from Climbing State
