The team is unable to find Dr. Ureta and paranoia sets in after an unfortunate accident.
I had a lot of fun with the sound design on this one! So much so that my headphones broke late in the process... <.< I'm getting them repaired over the weekend. Near the end of the episode you may recognize something, which I feel really shows how much better of a sound designer I've become over the last few years. I hope it makes your skin crawl :) ... In the nicest way possible.
I have also attached the mix notes as kind of a weird/fun behind the scenes. This episode was only 58 distinct tracks, but you may enjoy seeing how much work went into just volume, EQ, and (Left/Right) panning. Each episode has at least this many notes.

I said this under another episode, but this is a perfect example of integrated representation, of a character who just happens to be gay. It's refreshing to see. Wonderfully done 🥰
Thank you!
I'm overdue in letting you (and Sophie Yang) know how much I adore Dr. Liu -- and how frustrating I find it that no one listens to her. Terrific performances by everyone, don't misunderstand me, but Dr Liu is fantastic. Thank you so much! *waits anxiously for the next episode*
Thanks for letting us know :) She's been informed and is still in disbelief
This is the episode that finally got me to sign up for Patreon! Stayed up too late binge listening to Artifact, Imperial, Ashore and Exhibit! This is such an amazing universe and I really like being able to understand more of the lore around it. Thank you creators! 🙏
We're so glad that you're enjoying our stories :) Thank you for making it possible for us to make more of these!
Spoiler for start... It was hard to tell - did Dr. Ureta switch to English when she seemed to recognize the person who was there, or was this a translation transition issue? Because if it's the former, she was judging that her companion was not the most fluent in Spanish, and that could be Simon, maybe Dr. Liu, or potentially Lucas (as he is a native Portuguese speaker and that's not necessarily a perfect cross-over).
She switched to English. We do a cross-fade (except in episode 6, to keep things moving quickly) in every instance of language transition.
Definitely agree that I'm REALLY missing that 3ft of concrete and a heavy locked door between the team and whatever's out there. There is,,, so much to comment on but just. HOO BOY I can't protect them
What Cathryn said
I'm wagering that Lucas turns unwitting monster collaborator and gets killed by team Pedra.
I am wagering that either Lucas or Eva are going to be the first to leave this mortal world.
Spoiler I think Ureta has already left us based on that radio transmission 😬
I think that I am going to have to replay the episodes together. There is a lot that is going on. Spoiler space I was cringing about Hall, and the radio was very disturbing. Even without the bad news this site seems to be, that injury would be very dangerous.
Spoiler! Yeah, that injury would be bad news even without the radioactive levels of spooky. Really hoping Hall sticks with us as long as possible. His sunny can-do attitude has kinda made him one of my favorites. Lucas is looking like the crazy is setting in fast. How much time you figure he has left on his clock?
I told them earlier.... Nothing good is coming...
Spoiler... Must be Dr Ureta at the theater!! Uff stomach turned at end with Lucas gone, Eva going back to the tents, Ureta missing, and Lieu, Guerrero and an Injured Hall stuck in the cave...I have a feeling this group of folks isn’t going to fare nearly as well as the Outpost Fristed crew did...and is Eva being mimicked? Why won’t the bugs attack her? Aghhhhhh great episode 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I don't think she's being mimicked, I think she's being turned into a creature like how Jonas was.... But with a bug sting instead of being cut on one of the statues.
Thank you for the amazing mental image of Dr. Liu valiently defending herself at the camp.
One day we hope to see fan art of this!
Spoiler . . . . . . . . . . . . . Was that screaming/weeping in background of that radio response? Better check the anatomical theatre for Ureta :( And I gasped when Gurrero said the bugs weren't attacking Ava. I hoped this wouldn't be the case but I knew it. I want to know if Sera Bene and Sidja Group are owned by the same people... Ahh there was so much in this episode!
Oh man, what a good question o_o
On my first listen-through, it just seemed like things going wrong in a normal way with a couple of instances of weirdness. On my second, though...woof, that's some *serious* foreshadowing...
Oh damn that escalated fast! There's just so much going on with this one! It really sunk in that the base camp folks have a lot less resources then the Fristed bunch... Like missing a big ol' concrete bunker to keep them at least temporarily safe.
Looking forward to listening!
