Update - Changes Incoming

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I wanted to try something different. In April, I realized summer was fast approaching and I had not made the progress on the summer comic I needed, so I've been hard at work on that. Plus, after the comic last year grew and stretched out far into the winter, I decided to start scripting and roughing out the entire story before I began drawing it properly.

Following the many, many, many drafts and rewrites, I think the story is finally in a good place to show off. All paid patrons get a preview of WIP panels and moments. Super patrons get access to the full story in its raw form. The story is subject to change until it is posted publicly. As I make it, I can inevitably see tweaks and changes come up as I live with the story and think on it more and more. Please do not share any of pages online, but I hope you all enjoy!

I may discuss this more at a later date, but April was also the point when I realized my old content plan wasn’t working. While I was never making huge amounts through shorts, at its peak, it was a solid income and it felt like there was room to improve my videos and make them faster. But then my numbers started to slump. After May of 2024, I was only getting a fraction of the views I previously had.

I kept posting through it, knowing that this sometimes happens with content creators. Number fall as an algorithm doesn't like you for whatever reason, but you will eventually break out of it. And I did! At the start of 2026, after 20 months, I had two shorts that received multi-million views, 2.6 and 3.8 respectively. I was finally on the other side! I went to check the revenue to see what all my waiting and effort had finally got me. They each earned about $300...

Turns out that I was so focused on trying to escape this view hole, that I forgot the real scale of views you need to make a living with shorts. Back in 2023, I was getting a million views on nearly every video and many were reaching the tens of millions of views; but I haven't hit those numbers in a very long time. Even between those very successful shorts, I was posting full animations and comic shorts that only got a fraction of the views. This is just the moment I realized this may not be a mountain I can climb anymore.

Now don't cry on my behalf. Through other work, living frugally, and of course Patreon (thank you <3), I am financially okay. You all don't need to worry, I am taking care of myself. I'm also not planning to go anywhere. This is not the first time I've had this revelation. Back in 2021, I realized my original animations being uploaded as normal YouTube videos wasn't working, so I decided to give TikTok a try and that opened up a whole new path for my characters and stories. I just need to experiment and find what that new path is!

The obvious the first path I'm trying is comics. It's why I've been pouring myself into the summer comic. If people like this long form comic, I could keep going and use this medium to finally tell the much larger overarching story of all my characters. Web comics aren't exactly known for paying well, so that's the biggest hurdle; but, I have some ideas to overcome that.

If not comics, maybe I should dip my toes into one of my other favorite video type, the video essay. Or perhaps I use my animation skills to make an indie game. That might sound far fetched, but I majored in game development in college and worked on games in the past.

The point is I'm going to be experimenting and finding a new path forward for my art and characters. Shorts will undoubtably be a part of that path forward, but maybe not my main focus going forward. TLDR: After two years of weak shorts views, I'm gonna try experimenting with other content ideas. Shorts will still happen, but less the priority as I try new things. First up, let's give this comics thing a proper try!
