A sneak peek at the future of Pure

Just to show you, why it is a little bit quiet since some time.

With the latest CSP versions, the integration of own shaders is possible. In the last months, i digged in the basics of shader coding and build in a dynamic shader environment into Pure. You already see it in Pure Config app (with the rain haze shader). This gives me a fast testground to try out things.

I started to dig into voluemtric clouds shaders. In the last weeks i experimented with found code and expanded it to AC/CSP needs. I optimized it to achieve good fps. This volumetric clouds code is very flexible and it is possible to have smooth transition from less covered to full covered skies without fps losses.

As you see, it is at its very beginning and much things are missing. But i passed the mark, where i wanted to find out, if this is even usable in AC/CSP. So yes it is usable and it has an impact, but only on the GPU.

So this clouds will replace Pure's 3d bilboard clouds (render method 0) in the future.
The current 3d clouds have a decent hit on the CPU and GPU. So in th AC world, where all the CPU is needs, this is not the best way.

With the new shader clouds nearly all calculation load is shifted to the GPU and the CPU is nearly not involved. This will fit the needs of AC much better.

So if you asked yourself, what is done with your money you invest in me: It will be this and other nice and new things.

Thanks for supporting me all the time !!!
It has just started yet...

Hey Peter, Thank you for your work while paying attention to what happens on average configurations; it is really appreciated! For me with the 4K texture with a "old" 1660 Super vidéo card in 1920*1080, I have got 60 FPS and 45~55 with the rainand the sky is really realist. Do you think it will be possible to have lightning (like SOL) with PURE part so stormy ? The PURE filter is better than the old ones and works well with different car types (gt3, single seater, etc.); which is not necessarily the case with some. Big Thanks !

P
Peter Boese · November 23, 2022

You should realy try the 16k pack. It will not influence your fps. The 4k pack is just for users with realy weak GPUs with less VRAM. Storm and lightnings will come later. I want to do a completely new and much better graphis of this.

Hey Peter, is it worth adding a small schematic Display on top of each release of the functionality so that people, younger and older ones, can quickly understand the difference between "Weather Controller" and "Weather Script"? As per my understanding: "Weather Controller" => Sol 2.2.5 => Control, which weather is past, present and future "Weather Script" => "Sol" or "Pure" => Visualisation of current active Weather. With: "Sol" => Tuning and tweaking more or less all lighting parameters "Pure" => Implementing real Brightness parameters... e.g. Brightness of Sun compared to light bulb For all, who want to know more details, look into: "How it works - AC CM CSP Sol" Perfect Description. Thx Peter for your insane work!!

i have 2.2.5 script installed and running

A
Andy Richards · November 21, 2022

yes, my in game planner is still 2.2 but working well, not sure how to get 3.4

P
Peter Boese · November 21, 2022

With the latest Sol 2.2.5 update. Maybe try to delete the /apps/python/sol_planner folder. It could be it is write protected. Actually the sol planner should be overwritten, if you copy the 4 folders (apps, content, extension and system) to AC root folder.

A
Andy Richards · November 21, 2022

Hi, all is working great but I am now running 2.25 and yet the planner when in game still showing 2.2 not 3.4, any ideas. Thanks

P
Peter Boese · November 21, 2022

Thats the weather controller version! Sol weather script is at version 2.2.5 and Sol Planner is at 3.4, which you see if you open it ingame.

I love what you're doing for the community Peter. Yesterday I spent some time in VR, racing a bunch of 911s from the seventies at Oulton Park. What a joy and it's thanks to people like you.

Hi peter, i have a question. In the photo mode app, there is an auto white balance, once i close photo mode it reverts back to normal. Is there any way i could change anything in the files to keep it on all the time? Dont get me wrong sky + pure look amazing [thank you by the way] but having that white balance would be the icing on the cake. I know about post processing filter editing menu, but it just dosent look the same.

P
Peter Boese · November 21, 2022

Its analyzing the picture, so it dynamically reacts on it. But imo it is not always right. It has a good chance, if much white is displayed. For now its not possible in Pure, but maybe i could integrate such thing later.

Honestly you and Ilja are a blessing to this community! You inspire all of us gamers and modders alike. Assetto Corsa has brought a lot of us through some really tough times. Thank you for helping make this community special!

Awesome work but as a VR user I think Skydomes work great for me. And look amazing. What I would love to see is better rain optimization. Even my 12700K/3080ti setup takes a huge 10-20fps hit when the rain drops. I would love to see lightning come back. I would love to see accumulating snow some day as well. Either way , I will keep on supporting as I have through the years and will hope to see some of this stuff.

Can I beta test:) I’m in VR on 4090 ?

P
Peter Boese · November 20, 2022

Nothing to test right now and I would not recommend it for VR. It's actually just render for 1 view.

my pure config menu is not showing up plz help

P
Peter Boese · November 20, 2022

Please update to CSP 1.78 or higher. There is a bug, which is solved with the next Pure version. Otherwise please check if you have "Pure" selected in weatherFX as weather script.

P
Peter Boese · November 20, 2022

It just at the beginning. CSP must be expanded to integrate external things into the render pipeline. It will take its time, but we are working on it...

M
Max S · November 20, 2022

You are an utter genius and a weather wizard Peter!

M
Miro Pärtty · November 20, 2022

Holy shit! That looks amazing! Only thing I'm worried is the possible added GPU load as in VR I need every frame I can get.

P
Peter Boese · November 20, 2022

I think in VR the skydome cloud textures are the much better choice. They have nearly no impact on everything.

S
Spiyder · November 20, 2022

ok first off, wow. i’ve seen clouds form and dissipate in real time in real life and these look great. cannot wait. hopefully the switch between weather (so like from cloudy to rain) seems natural too

D
David Manole · November 20, 2022

Cant wait for it and also i want to ask something, if i set the weather to thunderstorm i cant see or hear the thurder but if i change from pure to sol it works, do u know how i can remediate this problem ?

P
Peter Boese · November 20, 2022

Pure actually has no thunder and lightning. With the next puplic release I add a basic thunder sound feature, but no visuals. I just want to do a much better visual integration of lightnings in Pure. So it will come later as a shader code within those volumetric clouds.
