Serenity C2 Episode 5 (Devlog 3)
Hello my friends,
Development is moving along well and we're still on schedule for a release by end of this month if it continues this way. I've had fun working on this episode. I am linking a new video previewing part of a cute scene with Rin. Scenes like this are what I love to do. I hope you like it!
Now to some (sort of) bad news... Recently I received reports from a few people that the game was randomly crashing on certain videos. This seems to be a very recent development with the Renpy game engine and possibly a Windows update breaking something (Leave it to Micro$oft to screw things up for us). I have been using an older version of the Renpy engine for quite a long time now. I was afraid of updating it in the middle of development. Problem is that can't work because development takes a long time and the engine needs to be updated to keep up with issues like this.
As it turns out, the latest version of Renpy does not crash. However, and this is the (sort of) bad news part... after running my games through the new Renpy, most of my old saves wouldn't work. But starting a new game works fine and saves after that are fine. I tested this in all 3 of my games. I will have to rebuild Serenity Chapter 1 in the new engine because the problem happens there too. So, I'll be updating that game soon. As for Serenity Chapter 2, when this update comes out, it will be on the new version of Renpy. Last Human was already rebuilt with the new engine, so links (on my sites and discord) should be that version.
Anyway, be prepared to possibly start your game from the beginning once this one is completed. Some save files MIGHT work, but I'm not sure. You may also get a message when you load an old save saying "This save was created on a different device.... blah blah fucking blah"... If you see that, just click YES and see how it goes. I've had mixed results with that message where sometimes when clicking YES, it would just back out to the menu. So, best option is probably going to be start a new game.
I'll post a new devlog when I have Serenity Chapter 1 rebuilt and uploaded. Meanwhile, I'm still working on Serenity Chapter 2 (episode 5) currently. And it is now being developed through the latest version of Renpy.

WOahA!!! Seems the MC is not in the "Dog House" in this one... He is in the SHIT HOUSE!!!! Never seen Rin so PO'd.. MC got REAL lucky nothing "Connected" with HIS valuables during that scene!!! ROFLMAO
I'm glad you are making progress and yes, these silly, yet lovable scenes I like the most.
I sometimes like to go back and redo the old stories. You do them great. As for Rin ... Well, what did Fereldan say about certain Tsundere women? Rin fits the bill.
I don't mind starting over if it's necessary. I find that I've forgotten a lot of stuff anyway.

Yes MS is using Ai to make updates now and now checking compatibility. But the pending lawsuits against them now, I think things will get worse not better. I suggest making sure the game works on Linux perfectly. As for the scene, I love Rin, her wanting to be a hardass, but so sweet also makes her great.
In theory, RenPy games running on Python make them work quite well on Linux. I've played several on my Steam Deck. But yeah, checking that would def provide peace of mind if we all need to make that jump!
Eh this shit has happened to many other games I've played sadly. Just comes with the territory! Heck, hadn't touched Forever Skies in a year or two and my save wasn't compatible there either lol. Super happy to hear the progress, and excited for the next update!
