Item Illustrations

This month's item illustrations were based on Patron suggestions from the Discord channel and largely involved a variety of weapons. One of them was a design of the sentient sword, Hazirawn, wielded by Rezmir from Tyranny of Dragons, while many of the others were homebrew or specific selections by me for underrepresented weapons (i.e the pike). I hope that some of them are useful for your campaigns, even if you aren't running that particular module or a different setting.

The item illustrations were done by Steven Bell.

The highlighted item this month is the Net of Cloaking, a magical net with the appearance of a Cloaker that transforms when thrown into a Minor Cloaker, with the ability to restrain the intended target or even blind and suffocate them. Since we have been making good progress on the Card Generation Tools that will be available for testing soon, I decided to include its abilities via one of those generated cards.

Description

This unnerving net appears to have been constructed with intricate woven fibers, hardened scales and chitinous claws to resemble the Cloaker - a predator that preys upon its victims from above.

Net of Cloaking

When thrown, the Net of Cloaking magically animates into a Minor Cloaker (AC 14, HP 39) and can be controlled as a Bonus Action by its attuned user.

On a successful attack on a Large or smaller target, the Minor Cloaker attaches to it, and the target is Restrained. If you have advantage against the target, the cloaker attaches to the target's head, and the target is blinded and unable to breathe while the cloaker is attached. While attached, the cloaker can make one Bite Attack as a Bonus Action of the attuned user only against the target and has advantage on the attack roll. A creature, including the target, can take its action to detach the cloaker by succeeding on a DC 16 Strength check.

Damage Transfer. While attached to a creature, the cloaker takes only half the damage dealt to it (rounded down), and that creature takes the other half. If the cloaker is reduced to 0 HP, it reverts to its original form and cannot be used against until after a Long Rest.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) piercing damage

NPC Portraits & Tokens

This month's NPC illustrations were designed with a Ravenloft/Curse of Strahd environment in mind, with a team of [3] vampire hunters, some nefarious familiars, a creepy fortune teller and pair of villagers that may be friend or foe. I thought with Halloween coming up, it would be a good opportunity to have a few spooky options for games you might have planned.

There are also [6] scenes included, by various artists, and I particularly enjoyed this one depicting the Manticore fighting a party atop the Manticore Ruined Tower map, by Clark Ocleasa.
