Get the Phandalin Illustrated Scene Today!

Illustrated by Mondcuow

Each month, I try and pass along the generosity you show me by employing other artists to create a variety of illustrations, portraits, magical items and other works of art that can be used in your games at home, whether they be homebrew or official modules

This week, I wanted to highlight one of those pieces -- one of the locations that likely started many a party on their first adventures into the world of Dungeons & Dragons - the troubled town of Phandalin!

Phandalin is a small frontier settlement in the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms, situated among the rugged foothills and forests south of Neverwinter and northwest of the High Road. The town stands near the ruins of an older settlement that was once part of the ancient Phalorm (Realm of Three Crowns).

Long ago, Phandalin prospered as a mining town, drawing wealth from the rich deposits of ore found in the surrounding hills. Its prosperity eventually attracted raiders, and the original settlement was destroyed centuries ago. It was resettled in the 15th century by farmers and ranchers, lending the town a rough-and-tumble frontier setting.

The new Phandalin has now attracted a diverse collection of people seeking opportunity on the edge of civilization. Prospectors, miners, farmers, merchants, craftsmen, adventurers and fortune-seekers have all come to the settlement hoping to profit from the region's renewed mining activities. The setting provides the bones for a growing boomtown with little established authority, many competing interests and plenty of room for both honest enterprise and criminal schemes alike.

Here are a few zoomed-in areas you might recognize:

Tresendar Manor

Sleeping Giant Taphouse

Lionshield Coster

Alderleaf Farm

Stonehill Inn

The scene provides a bird's eyes view of the settlement, allowing you not only to see everything from a distance, but also to potentially use it as as quick reference for travel through the village, especially when doing simple social encounters.

Here is also my interpretation of the map of Phandalin:
