Oleg's Trading Post - Illustrated Scene
Each month, I try and pass along the generosity you show me by employing other artists to create a variety of illustrations, portraits, magical items and other works of art that can be used in your games at home, whether they be homebrew or official modules.
This week, I wanted to highlight one of those pieces -- one of the many locations from the well-known Pathfinder RPG module, Kingmaker -- Oleg's Trading Post!
Located about a dozen miles north of the Narlmarches on the southern edge of Brevoy, Oleg's Trading Post is an old border fort rebuilt to function as a trading post by Oleg Leveton and his wife Svetlana Leveton. The former fort is still surrounded by a 10-foot-high wooden palisade, with a 30-foot-wide gate serving as the sole access point. Each of the palisade's five points feature a guard tower looking toward the remote horizon, keeping an eye for bandits, goblins and other nare-do-wells.
While the repurposed fort has seen mild financial success through hard work and visits from traveling merchants, it is too remote and distant from any major waterways to reach its full potential, relying mainly on hunters, trappers and few other regular visitors. A large market exists in the center of the post, conducting business and serving food to guests by a fire pit.
The interior of the outpost has [7] main buildings:
Trading Post -- This two-story building offers brief respite from the weary trail and an assortment of arms, armor, camping and traveling supplies. While not an Inn, Svetlana does keep an assortment of breads, cheese and various cured meats available for hungry travelers.
Oleg & Svetlana's Home -- One of the [4] houses inside the fort, this cozy cottage provides the two a comfortable living, while leaving the store's upper floor open for visiting guests. The couple keep a dog downstairs, to let them know of any trespassers or thieves in the night.
Herbalist Hut -- Part of the adventure includes a contact capable of brewing potions, so I thought it would make sense to potentially have a more permanent place at the outpost for him, as well as to provide this location with some support for budding young adventurers just starting out.
Herbalist's Home -- The herbalist lives in one of the other cottages with their family, living simply and enjoying the protection of the outpost walls and companionship of Oleg and Svetlana.
Hired Hand's Cottage -- Another cottage contains the family of some hired hands, folk that see about tending to the stables, tanning hides, hauling gear and otherwise keeping the place running easily and smoothly.
Retired Adventurer's Hut -- This small home holds a retired adventurer that frequented the outpost and decided to retire there, after enjoying many evenings with Oleg and Svetlana. The adventurer mostly fishes and enjoys a simple life, though having an able blade on hand when trouble turns up never hurt anything.
Stables -- This modest stable and attached corral can accommodate several horses and one medium-sized rig, allowing visitors a place to store their animals and transport. Other transports can find space within the yard, should more arrive. Pens contain some chickens, goats and a milk cow.
Here's the Base Map of the Town:
I hope you enjoy the piece and seeing where some of your support goes!
