Modding Diary - Abandoned Baby + I kinda made a baby carrier?!
Hi guys! ☺️💛 Hope you’re all doing well. This is going to be a bit of a longer post today while I explain what I’m planning next, what I’ve been up to, and what I… accidentally discovered along the way 😂
As many of you know, the childbirth mod is my biggest mod, seriously, it’s almost 200MB (yes, I am still working on making it modular🥲). I’ve spent the past four years expanding it in every way I could. And as much as I love it, I’ve started to fall into a routine. Every update feels a bit more predictable now.
If you know me, you know this is both a blessing and a curse 😵💫 I need constant challenges, and I feel this itch to show people something they’ve never seen before. After adding new homebirth animations in the latest update, I realized I’ve pretty much covered everything I originally envisioned for this mod.
Sure, there are features like occult births and more birth positions that could be added, but they’re not things I want to tackle right now (animating 60+ seconds of birth scenes is… well… not exactly a spa day ✋😭).
So I’ve reached a point where I want to work on something different for a while. Don’t panic, this does not mean the childbirth mod is abandoned. I’ll still update it for bugs and game patches, and I’ll definitely return for more content updates in the future. But for the next couple months, I want to focus on something new:
✨ THE DRAMA GENERATOR MOD ✨
What is a Drama Generator Mod??
It’s a mod that brings larger-than-life events and scenarios crashing into your Sims’ peaceful little lives. I posted a poll a while ago with some of the wild ideas I scribbled down, it wasn’t a final list and I’ll be updating it as I go. The scenarios themselves might be dramatic, chaotic, or straight up bizarre… but the consequences and emotional impact on your Sims’ relationships will be very real 🔥
A lot of you said “but I don’t want XYZ to ever happen in my game!!” and don’t worry, I hear you loud and clear. This mod will be fully modular, so you can pick and choose only the scenarios you want.
Each scenario can be:
• triggered randomly
• triggered by a related event (like the runaway child happening after a kid and parent argue)
• or triggered manually by you
And whenever something happens, you’ll always have the option to play it out or cancel it with zero penalties.
So… here’s what I’ve been working on for the very first scenario:
👶 Abandoned Baby
When this scenario happens you will get a notification saying someone left a baby by your door. You will get a similar pop up every time a scenario happens, letting you know what is about to go down and whether you want to proceed.
and if you choose to accept the scenario you will find a baby in a carrier by your door.
Upon investigation your sim will be very surprised by what they found, and it will send the house into a small panic
Sims will have one of three moodlets describing their discovery (no they are not all angry)
if a child sim is the first to find the baby they will get a moodlet like so
and everyone in the house will get a moodlet like so
once you check out the baby you will be able to perform all the usual baby care interactions
and in the unlikely (or likely) event that this happens more than once in your sims life time they will get a different moodlet
Once you found the baby you will be able to talk about it with your other household members
you will get one of a dozen responses randomly
you can also talk about it to your children
and they will probably say something silly
Next week I will work on the interaction that allows your sim to talk about what to do with the baby with their partner, sims who hate children or have the "doesnt want children" trait in RPO are going to be against keeping the baby. You can either call CPS to take the baby, bring it to the police station, foster them temporarily while the police try to find their parents, or adopt them without telling anyone 👁️👁️You will also have to decided how to raise the child, are you going to be honest about their adoption from day 1, are you going to not tell them till they are older (they might not take it well), or just bury the truth completely. what if the police find the parent but you have already bonded with the child, what if the parents suddenly show up one day wanting them back, so many possibilities.
Anyways onto the baby carrier:
So I kinda made this by accident because I thought it would be kinda weird for the baby to show up at your door in a bassinet, it was not easy getting all the interactions to work but I got most of them working.
the cool thing is you can pick up the carrier and walk around with it, and take it to another lot
and the other cool thing is your sim can tend to their baby while sitting as long as the carrier is near by
the baby in the carrier behaves fully like a regular baby, it has hunger, energy and hygiene needs. Im hoping to turn this into a fully functional baby carrier mod so that your sim will be able to put their baby into the carrier, and go everywhere with it. There are some bugs I need to iron out, but honestly if I can get this working I think it would be a matter of time before I can make a baby stroller 😎.

Wait so... is this randomly generated or could you have a sim abandon their baby on another sim's door step (cause I can see the second one being an excellent storyline for townies like the notorious casanova Don Lothario... as an example)
right now its just a random event, but im looking into options to make sims abandon their own baby at someone elses house, im not entirely sure if its possible yet at this point

Love it! Especially a carrier 😍 But PLEASE, for the love of God, give those of us with VERY long lifespans an option for how often these scenarios occur. Sac’s tragedies and drama mods are not even useable for players with long lifespans because the frequency set to slowest is still ridiculous for something that should only happen a few times in someone’s life 😬

All of these ideas sound amazing! I love the childbirth mod and am so grateful for all the work you have put into it but I’m so excited to see you taking a different direction for a little bit because you are such a talented modder, the unique and amazing mods you can bring to the game are endless! I almost screamed when I first saw the baby carrier thing! The fact that you can now take the baby to another lot?! Game changing! And being able to interact with the baby whilst sitting down! Honestly this is such a cool addition to the game! Maybe in the future you could add new interactions too like napping in a rocking chair with a baby, changing the baby’s diaper on their lap! Also just a suggestion but maybe you could have it so that what the baby is laying in is changeable maybe just by clicking on it and selecting what you want them to be in, like a little play mat, the baby carrier, bassinet ect Honestly PandaSama these additions are amazing and I’m so excited to see what you come up with next! 💕

I love the drama, would love it if our sims could drop a baby off (say teen pregnancy and she doesn't want it so she drops it on her sister's door step type situation!) Also would love to have a carseat variant or a rocker for baby! But I love it otherwise!
