Modding Diary - Pregnancy Loss D:

Hi guys! long time no see! hope you all are well! :))

I had a great time off the last two weeks. My partner and I visited LA and we were spoiled by the warm weather and everything it had to offer. Im feeling refreshed and ready to work on this next update. 🤓

This upcoming update will deal with pregnancy loss and death. I totally understand this is a sensitive subject, if this is something you dont care for or dont have the stomach for feel free to unsubscribe. I expect to spend around 3 months working on this update. obviously the update will be an optional download similar to the death enabler in the midwifery update so that you wont have to have it in your game if you dont want to.

I dont know yet if I should do a enabler again or make this a completely separate download.

now on to the update itself:

Frankly even i felt a bit uneasy when i was doing research on this update. 😔if anything it's just so extremely sad. I dont have children myself but I can imagine the devastation and emotional pain it causes. I was also shocked to discover still birth babies are not delivered through c-sections 😶

at the same time i also understand pregnancy loss is part of life, so im going to approach the subject respectfully, and im only going to go as far as I am comfortable with.

the idea is that when doing ultrasound your sim will get a notification saying their baby has passed and they need to induced, right now I am only dealing with single baby pregnancies, I do not know yet what I will do when multiple babies are involved, i have to dig deeper to see what is possible.

your sim will get one of five moodlets

Once induced, the actual delivery will be similar to a natural birth. but when the baby is handed off to your sim it will appear to be in a swaddling blanket and a beanie. i read that babies are clothed like this normally as a way to humanize them and treat them with dignity. as silly as it sounds I do agree that the clothing helped me feel a bit better as well when making the interaction.

please ignore the weird hand placements, I need to rework the birth animation entirely, but here's what the clothing would look like.

next week I will rework the ultrasound animation and the delivery animation to make them more appropriate for the context.
