PayPal dropped the ball again
You may have gotten an e-mail from Patreon saying that you need to switch to credit or debit card to keep supporting me. Unfortunately, it's true.
Patreon informed me that PayPal is ending all the Pixeldrain subscriptions which go through PayPal (why does everything have to start with a P?). There is an appeal process, which I have requested. But of course they only inform me of this after disabling all the subscriptions.
If you are using PayPal to pay for your Patreon plan, then you will either have to switch to credit card, debit card or Bitcoin. Cryptocurrency is the only payment system they can't take away from me. If you can use neither of those, I'm sad to say there's no alternative. I'm looking for alternatives. I'm also considering accepting payments through direct SEPA transfers, but most banks have private APIs that can't be used to automatically detect new transactions.
There are approximately 11000 people paying for Pixeldrain through PayPal. Some of those might convert to credit card, but I suspect a lot of them will be cancelling as well. This will likely result in a significant drop in revenue. If the new budget comes out too low, I will have to resort to some drastic measures. Step one will most likely be adding back the advertisements on the download page that I removed many years ago. If that doesn't cut it, I'll have to scale down the website. This means removing caching servers in multiple locations, decreasing file expiry time and lowering the storage capacity.
This is a frustrating situation. I want to provide storage and file transfer services, and you want to pay, but the only thing stopping us are the rent-seeking companies inbetween who think they're the internet police for some reason. I'm glad Bitcoin exists at all.
I want to stipulate that Patreon is not at fault in this case. They are just being forced by PayPal. It would be nice if they could add some more payment options besides credit/debit card and PayPal, though. The current options are kinda barren. Maybe Wero someday?
Nova.storage progress update
I'm still working hard on my new project. I'm running into the same issue there though. I have to choose a payment processor before I launch, and I want it to be a party I can trust. But how can I trust any payment processor when it's gone wrong so many times already? I'm stuck in analysis paralysis, there's so much depending on my choice of payment processor that I am unable to make any choice at all.
Meanwhile I have been steadily fixing things up and implementing new features. I recently added a documentation site and added S3 API support. Hello. What about my annual subscription, which I paid for via PayPal and which expires in October 2027? Even though it hasn’t expired yet, do I need to change my payment method? At this stage, I’m still not sure whether I’ll renew the service. Thank you.
I payed my sub a week ago and for some reason patreon doesn't accept my card, so i will lose my subscription ? That's really annoying to lose 3 weeks of subscription ....

Yes, I have submitted an appeal and it's still being reviewed. But AFAIK you can't sign up with paypal right now.
Hey, Im trying to top up my Pixeldrain Account Balance so I can keep using prepaid. In the past Ive been topping up for 20€ or smth and just used that till it expired and then topped up again. Unfortunately in the "Deposit credit" window on Pixeldrain only Crypto is listed and I only can pay via CC or Paypal. What are my options here? Would it be possible to buy Patreon subscription and then switch back to Prepaid or smth?
Sorry, prepaid is only available with cryptocurrency right now. You can get a Patreon subscription to replace the prepaid plan.

That actually sucks, unfortunately no Credit card and the like for me.
A Flash of WTF hits me!!! IF PayPal is removing Pixeldrain from their services how long do any of us think it will take before PayPal starts removing ALL of our payment plans from ANY and ALL Patreon listed developers? What is to stop them other than banding together and posting warnings to all users and potential users of PayPal to consider using other options for their online buying to avoid PayPal purchasing "Censorship" through denial of services? When PayPal can make no money because no one wants to use their services since they cannot be trusted, maybe it will change their loyalty to their customer base and not to public opinions and pressures which are usually what drives such changes.
Paypal seems to ignore their customer's requests as well in matters like this. At least with Pixeldrain I was not ripped off like I was with Mega.nz! They sold me the annual membership back in January 2026 then in June they pushed an "Essentials" membership out and it hit my box with all the gusto of any highly marketed item. So much so that I "Forgot" I already had a PRO 1 account that even though I have no use for upload storage options I chose. When it popped up during my attempt to download a file, blocking that download in the process, I was pressed to "Upgrade" to the Essentials account. To get the file since it was a larger file I went ahead and signed up for and paid for the Essentials account. I have tried contacting Mega.nz about this "FRAUDULANT ACT" several times since June but they have not responded to any attempt to contact them. They have my money for both accounts with a 6 month overlap in the accounts but they are treating my account as the Essentials account with a lower download cap than advertised and well below my PRO account cap. I even pointed out, in every contact message, that my account shows BOTH accounts as ACTIVE! Do they care? I would say at this point. NO! They do not give a damn! At least you are working had to correct or make options available for this Paypal fubar...

I was going to make the switch but I pay yearly and when on the page it was acting like I was paying the whole year again a month early but I plan to swap it closer to my next charge date next month!

I have unfortunate news from myself... due to the way Patreon changed my account when I changed my email address I had to forcibly block the payment to stop the transfer and now my credit card will not approve any payments to Patreon. It is a sad state of affairs when I can't just access an account that is still active and is no longer connected to it's original email.

PayPal screwed me years ago by leaking my personal information all over the world. That took me two years and thousands of $ to fix. I do not use PayPal for anything now. I would recommend that no one else does either. PayPal CANNOT be trusted.
At least I got a yearsubscription, so hopefully a non-CC/crypto payment option gets added before next year end of april.

My subscription renews in February, so if nothing changes by then—and I don't hold out much hope, unless a miracle happens—I'll switch to paying by credit card because there's no way I'm giving up PixelDrain, which, in my opinion, is the best file-sharing platform.
I already made the payment by credit card instead of PayPal a few days ago. No issues.
My primary reason for using PayPal with Patreon was to not give Patreon a credit card. I would love for the Patreon plans to also be available directly on the Pixeldrain website for puchase via crypto or card.

I was using Paypal due to Patreons history of not liking any of my cards (for no explainable reason), however, thankfully, it accepted the one I wanted to use this time, so no issues from me :) This website is a mess.
Switched it to pay with CC a couple days ago when I got Patreon notification. Stay strong 💪. I know it's been bumpy lately.
