Steam achievements - Poll

Hey everyone,

A while back, we asked about achievements in the game, and the vast majority didn't want/need achievements or were neutral towards them. But back then, no one knew this was for a potential Steam release.
We've had lots of questions about achievements, so let's poll it again.
Keep in mind that, depending on the outcome, the release might be pushed back a little. Achievements have to be made, coded in, linked to Steam, create little avatars, naming and so on...

Do you want achievements in the Steam version of Intertwined?

Personally I don't really care about achievements like are used on STEAM. I understand how STEAM's platform can help developers get going. They have a proud habit of supporting new developers. Only thing is. With AVNs they tend to be wishy washy about content and have been known to ban a developer just for the appearance of a subject they take offence to that week. Then of course they like to watch what gamers are playing in their client service. Which leads to tampering and censorship. I have also seen them ban gamer self help advice givers from forums for what they call "Hacking" the game files where what is happening is one gamer found what was wrong with a game and fixed it and then shared how. NO hacking involved. No selling of advice. Only gamers helping other gamers when game developers and support services for this or that game have failed to respond to gamer requests for support help fixing what is causing game crashes etc. STEAM (Valve) can be two faced about just about any subject and once they make a decision, even if it is wrong and they know it. They REFUSE to correct their actions. I ran into this when I fixed a problem with Deep Black the underwater game. A STEAM file update for a shared file on STEAM corrupted the game's execute file. I found it, and I don't know programming, I just found the damaged file, and replaced it with a backed up copy. That is NOT hacking! That is a common practice for keeping games running right when developers stop supporting it like happened with Deep Black. I provided the tip of where to get a clean copy of the file that the STEAM Shared system file corrupts when you launch the game causing it to crash. Setting the file, once replaced with an uncorrupted original file, to READ ONLY. Kept the file from being corrupted again by the STEAM common file. STEAM Blocked me from that forum page and removed all of my posts then accused me of hacking the game. I presented them where to get, where I GOT, the ORIGINAL file that STEAM kept corrupting and it was a LEGITIMATE file source for DEEP BLACK. NO COST Files! Original files from the NON-STEAM release of the game. That just pissed them off more. Anyway... MY Deep Black game STILL runs fine. I did find that other gamers had picked up on and shared my advice before STEAM banned me after I had been banned and my posts removed. Pleased me no end I tell you that. How can any body complain about someone helping others when THEY THEMSELVES can not find and fix the problem THEY caused?? Hince my dislike for STEAM Client services and lackadasical support.. Sorry. Got on my soap box again!!

Yes

I would vote yes, but unfortunately I can't access games like that on Steam. They're blocked in Germany :-(

Elton Zait · June 19, 2026

Que jogo extraordinariamente bom, não vejo a hora de adiquirilo na steam e é claro se tiver conquistas ainda sera melhor. obrigado!

*A special request*: Please make them retroactive! As in when one of us load our save, we would be awarded all the achievement triggers that were included in that save. I've seen it often in other AVN Steam releases and it always makes me very very happy. lol 😛

If you add achievements (and I hope you do) I'd suggest a short guide of summary that drops hints on how to earn the achievement. You can place the hints behind spoilers for those who do not want to see them...

I dont play on steam so im Neutral here

k
kospac · June 18, 2026

I picked neutral because there is no steam release in Germany, but make it positive for others if that's a majority or close to

A
Alex · June 18, 2026

don't want to delay the release but a lot of replay value is getting missing achievements, but that's more for replay. as an avid/probably have addiction fan of AVNs maybe patch achievements later. which a lot of creators do

М
Мрак Бесс · June 18, 2026

You'd be better off working on bugs and localization than coming up with achievements

G
Greg B · June 18, 2026

Yawn. I get the fact that achievements can tell you what new path you might have discovered... But what's the real accomplishment here? I just don't get it. For playing RPGs and FPSs, I get achievements. AVN.... Not so much

S
Simon · June 18, 2026

Seems like leaving money on the table. I'm not too bothered but having achievements can bring in more players and could motivate others who supported on Patreon to buy again.

Erik Malkavian · June 18, 2026

Thanks for Poll Nyx and personally its not that important to me because I play games for the game, not achievements so I am "Neutral"

J
João Victor · June 18, 2026

In-game achievements would be cool. It's a way to show which content has already been explored.

F
FOAM · June 18, 2026

Achievements are one of the main reasons for getting a game on Steam vs other platforms.

S
Sweetonu · June 18, 2026

Yes I think it would be great!

M
MasterSav · June 18, 2026

I couldn't care less about steam achievements but I know it's quite popular

T
The Gaspless · June 18, 2026

Yes, absolutely! Personally it would make me want to replay the game again just to go for them. More importantly, though. Most new players on steam will probably be expecting them. A lot of people will probably buy the game simply because it has achievements, while I don't think anyone would avoid the game because it has them.

R
Rodrik Rofert · June 18, 2026

Achievements = not worth the time or energy. Would prefer more content, hidden paths, etc.

J
Jarulf · June 18, 2026

Voted 'No' While I don't hate them, I don't want my games gamified.

M
Monetka · June 18, 2026

Hello Nyx and Saca. I'd like to know about your plans for translating the game into different languages.

Most games in their steam releases comes with an achievement system. The big question though remains: what types of events or success do you consider as an achievement? 🤔

With hints

Some people buy games specifically because they have achievements. In other words, there are players who might not know much about this game, but decide to buy it because it has achievements, while others may choose not to buy it because it doesn't. Achievements are one of the factors that can influence sales. Most people whose native language isn't English tend to use the skip function for a large portion of the game, whether it's to view the lewd scenes or simply to unlock the achievements. As someone who has purchased hundreds of AVNs on Steam, I can say that achievements and trading cards have a bigger impact on sales and revenue than you might think.

I don't really care, especially at this stage of the game (it not being finished). Once it's finished, then I'd care a bit more maybe. Reason for that is that I don't particularly care to dive deep into games that aren't finished yet. But like others said, most Steam users will probably expect them...

K
Krazy Waves · June 18, 2026

I'm neutral, but I voted "yes." With the variability of Intertwined with so many different little scenes and relationships you can get depending on various choices, it could be fun. As long as a lot of the non-obvious ones are hidden achievements to avoid spoilers, could be fun for people looking for a certain challenge or uncovering certain scenes. Could also help draw more people to your game and the extra work might be worth it in the long run.

S
Sebanisu · June 18, 2026

Achievements might lead us to take a path we wouldn't normally.

S
Syntax Error · June 18, 2026

I'm no fussed long as I explore the paths I'm happy

I find that most "achievements" are just chapter markers, not something "achieved." They can be difficult to employ in VNs. But if done well, they can be a fun way to mark the accomplishment of difficult paths. Getting an achievement for simply clicking through a story is not really an achievement.

G
George Peters · June 18, 2026

Perhaps a better mechanic is the Steam Trading Cards. Getting a card for each path played, i.e. Alexis, Erynn, Layla, etc, and even one for playing all or none of the love interests is fun!

Dracconius · June 18, 2026

Gives us a bit extra to work for honestly

S
Scott Minkoff · June 18, 2026

If you release on Steam it is very important to take the time and use the features of the platform: achievements, cloud saves, even collectibles.

K
Krazy Waves · June 18, 2026

Couldn't agree more.

T
T3chTaff · June 18, 2026

Yes, for us achievement hunters this upps our playtime and engagement with the game which in turn boots steam engagement hours.Plus I like chasing down the 1% achievements.

honestly they can make it 1k and it still wont be enough haha

T
Tremonia · June 18, 2026

I don't need them, but they're nice to have. For many players it's important. If I were you, I'd put them to the game, because more people would buy the game.

T
Trixxter13 · June 18, 2026

Sadly as a german i cannot buy the steam version of the game, but I voted for the achievement. A steam game without them is like…. a intertwined chapter without a cliffhanger ending.

b
bedellia · June 18, 2026

neutral, because it can avoid some player complaining about no achievement on steam, but for myself, the gallery is enough :)

I don't need achievments, but... Without it, you can lose some steam players. I'd say go for it.

A
AJ · June 18, 2026

The achievements are good and help explore remaining paths to gather all of them. 👏🏼

w
william lance · June 18, 2026

Achievements give the player goals to work towards. Yes the content and story are absolutely great on their own. But having achievements helps to have plenty of return trips to the game and creates a more satisfying experience especially for those not using a walk-through to help guide them along.

P
Praka · June 18, 2026

I enjoy the achievements for the games I love. In AVNs, the achievements can help you know what storylines are possible (if no walkthrough available) so another good way to replay the game to catch everything

Cascade Falls · June 18, 2026

Achievements is a fun thing to have, but not absolute must. Of my 200+ games collection I have only 3-4 games where I actually went out of the way to get an achievement.

C
Cascade Falls · June 18, 2026

On the other hand for the game I develop I created achievements without asking anyone. Double standards right there :))))

C
Calhoun28 · June 18, 2026

Yes. I think they are fun. But more importantly, most of the new players you will get on Steam will be expecting them, and they will let you know in the reviews if you don't have them.
