That was some great cornbread. This movie has some interesting things to say about the relationship between whiteness and black culture, essentially that witness seeks either to control and even destroy it (the klan) or to appropriate it (the vampires). It begs the question of is there a healthy in-between. The closest we see is Mary who raises more red flags than green ones. We also see two other racial groups: one (Native Americans) who live and try to protect others by protecting their own identity and the other (Asian family) who died because they lived more comfortably in that middle ground. That raises questions based on the triumphs and challenges of both of these groups today.

In case you were interested..this is what a haint is: A haint is a regional Southern and Appalachian term for a restless ghost, spirit, or malevolent entity from traditional folklore. In the South it’s a superstition to paint the roof of your porch “haint blue” to prevent evil spirits from entering your home.

I can see how you got it confused but Mary had a relationship with Stack (the one who was turned into a vampire). So she didn’t cheat on Smoke. Smoke used to be with Annie.

I miss when she would post the release year, because I had never heard of this movie, and there are like four movies just titled "Sinners." It's a minor inconvenience, but I had to watch pretty far into the video to know for sure which one she meant.
