FIRST TIME WATCHING: The Karate Kid (1984)

Karate Kid 2 when??

Oh my childhood nostalgia! xD

I would love it if you watched Cobra Kai. But watch the rest of the movies first

This was fun stuff. The 80s totally have jabs at history and current (then) issues that people were wrestling with (US Japanese internment camps). "Hey it's the 80s!" always makes me laugh. I really do hope you see both the sequels and the series at some point. The series has a ton of call backs to the movies and gives an amazing telling of the characters after the movies.

Karate Kid 2 is actually quite good, 3 is a little "meh" but has it's moments. Cobra Kai would be fun but I think it weakens after each successive season. I grew up with this on (ripped) VHS and always thought Miyagi was just mumbling nonsense through drunken tears as he stumbled over to pass out in bed, with modern subtitles applied he actually says "Land of free, home of brave....". That stings.

after karate kid part 2, u have to watch cobrai kai

Please watch the next two movies then watch the cobra kai show.

Please watch cobra kai

I think you would enjoy Cobra Kai but you need to watch the two sequel movies first as they are referenced in the show. It is 5 seasons but they are 25-30 minute episodes so it goes at a good pace.

Please don't do Cobra Kai, the first couple of season are great but after that it drags for so long.

Please consider "End of Watch" as your next reaction. Feel like you would enjoy it!

Great reaction! You're now ready to watch the hilarious youtube video 'Daniel is the Real Bully'. 15M views on that, they can't be wrong.

I do hope you watch Cobra Kai. I also think it’s best to watch parts 2 & 3 first because they do mention things from those movies. I decided to watch a few episodes to see what all the fuss was about and I couldn’t stop. I binged my way through the first 5 seasons.

The actor who plays Johnny, William Zabka, was actually a big fan of Ralph Macchio from a movie he was in the year before called The Outsiders. Ralph’s character in that movie was also named Johnny. When they first started filming this movie, William Zabka kept saying “It’s Johnny from The Outsiders!” If you ever watch The Outsiders, please watch the director’s cut. There is about 20 extra minutes that help the story.

Wow. I hadn't seen this since I was a kid. I was 10 when it came out, so naturally I loved all the cool karate stuff. Watching it now as an adult I didn't expect all the heart. Some cheesy 80's style, but really not excessively so. Really glad I watched this again. I've watched the first couple of seasons of Cobra Kai and loved it too. I need to start a rewatch and continue. As I remember you don't need to have watched 2 or 3 before starting Cobra Kai. I've heard characters from 2 and 3 show up in later seasons though. I forgot about that ending though. So abrupt! Also I think a style of the times. No concept of denouement. LOL

Plz watch Cobra Kai. After the next 2 Karate Kid movies though. Don't worry about 4 with the girl. It sucked

I consider this to be one of the best portrayals of a father figure relationship in film.

There is a 4-and-a-half-minute video that changed my whole view of this movie. Daniel is the Real Bully of this movie and Miyagi is a Demon Shaman who casts Black Magic, corrupting the soul of the American teen Daniel to destroy the life and destiny of a teen boy who was on track to become an American Hero. Please check out the link to this theory: I think it would be a funny add-on to this review on Patreon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Gz_iTuRMM

I agree with others, that Cobra Kai is a Worthwile show, BUT and this is me as a TV Series man, I would really suggest watching Karate Kid 2 & 3 first before diving into Cobra Kai, as all the movies are used inside the Show.

Cobra Kai is a very worthwhile continuation of the story, but I would recommend watching KK II & III first.

This is such a great reaction! My husband and I couldn't stop laughing when you did the "oh my god! he's talking to his mom! that's so embarassing!" haha! You should absolutely watch Cobra Kai. That show has NO right to be as good as it is and I ABSOLUTELY love it!

The scene where Miyagi gets drunk is even more powerful, given the Manzanar/Japanese internment thing, is that when he was a kid, Pat Morita and his family were sent to an internment camp as well.

We would definitely love to see you watch the other movies and Cobra Kai! 👊🏻 🐍

This was a really, really fun Reaction! LOL! Thank you, Nat! BTW, IMO, they should have never made sequels, especially the 3rd one. However, enjoyed the Netflix Series Cobra Kai! Love how the characters of Johnny & Daniel were written in the series.

There's no way Mr. Miyagi wasn't the inspiration for Uncle Iroh.

Honestly I may be in a minority here but I personally think part 2 and 3 are actually really great films because while they do get more cheesy the core of the film is the relationship between Daniel and Miyagi and that part is always strong. Really hope Nat sticks with these films and gives Cobra Kai a shot.

This film is great, and I really hope Nat puts the sequel in a future movie poll. Part 2 is actually my favorite of the original trilogy.

You have to do part 2 and 3 then Cobra Kai.

Please tell me we're watching the Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan version... not because it's good... but just for Jackie Chan lol I wish Nat would do more of his movies. Absolute LEGEND!

Great! Now you can put Cobra Kai on the list!

Oh we were on our phones - it's just that they were actually phones and we used them to talk to our friends for all hours of the night. And we were chained to the wall while doing so!

Definitely should watch Karate Kid 2 with how the first one ended. Seeing how it starts off right with the end of the Tournament so it caps off that story before going into the Okinawa trip.

Another Vote for Cobra Kai the series being watched eventually after hopefully karate kid two and three, Cobra Kai is so geewwdddd lol 😁🙏😁🙏 "You're the best arounndddd!!!" and Everyone needs a Mr. Miyagi in their life 🙏

Cobra Kai is great and the seasons can be watched individualy, you could very well just view season one and it would be cool on its own.

This is legitimately one of my favorite movies lol. The rest of the series is good too

Oh Hell Yeahhh!!! sorry just excited to see this 80's 90's kid here this franchise was like the Marvel Phase 1 was to me. The soundtrack I still listen to from time to time.

II is great... III is meh (imo) ... Cobra Kai is actually quite brilliant... cheesy, but brilliant.

Love the shots taken toward NJ from NYers like in HIMYM. Speaking of HIMYM, hope you enjoyed and got the references Macchio and Zabka had in the later seasons of HIMYM especially the theory of Johnny Lawrence being the real Karate Kid

Yeah, Cobra Kai is worth a watch. I have only seen the first two seasons myself, but I enjoyed them.

I believe that you'll enjoy Cobra Kai but you need to watch The Karate Kid part 2 & 3 before watching Cobra Kai. Fun fact: the director didnt want to cast Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi at first because Morita performed only in comedy features before the film and the director was afraid that he wouldnt fit in an action film but Ralph Macchio insisted and the director didnt want to lose Macchio.

Tenet plz

YAY!!! been looking forward to this, I hope this will lead into movies 2 and 3 and then the Netflix show eventually, that would be awesome

I'd say, Cobra Kai should be one of the shows you watch on your channel at some point when you watch all the Karate Kid films. Cobra Kai casts the original main actors you see in this movie for the show!

Anyone know how to run things concurrently on an android phone? I'm in the hospital so I don't have access to my computer, and every time I try to play one vid it stops the other.

Hi Nat, really looking forward to this as I loved it as a kid.. thanks for all the great content..

Happy Feature Friday, Natalie! 😊 I've been so excited for you to watch this movie. RIP always to Pat Morita(Mr. Miyagi)!!! This movie has one of the best movie soundtracks. If you aren't ready to commit to the soon-to-be six seasons(10 episodes per season) of "Cobra Kai" just yet, I do very highly recommend at least watching the two movie sequels(The Karate Kid Parts 2 & 3) to this movie. That way in case you eventually do get to "Cobra Kai" you'll be ready. But the two sequel movies are a must-watch before the series. Fun Fact: Ralph Macchio(Daniel) got to keep the yellow car from this movie. And he still has it. Three other great Ralph Macchio movies that I very highly recommend: Crossroads, My Cousin Vinny, and The Outsiders. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day and weekend! Stay Golden! 💛

So glad you’re getting to this one! One of my all-time personal favorites, and in my opinion, Daniel and Mr. Miyagi are the best cinematic friendship I know of: pure, reciprocal, unconditional, imperfect but perfect.

It would have been cool if Cobra Kai was in your recent TV poll, but in the mean time, I'd really try to get through part two and three (two is especially a favorite sequel of mine with amazing music).

the same duo of director and composer as Rocky… John G. Avildsen and Bill Conti. And with Zamfir on the flute?! WHAT A THEME! https://youtu.be/kSlAk0GatQ0?si=e36IRYcqqdvLnMC2

Karate Kid II/III and Cobra Kai please

Happy Fist Fighting Feature Friday Nat 😊 Been looking forward to this one all week. It's finally time to wax on, wax off and get that fence painted 😁 ha ha Accusing Mr Miyagi of child labour. He had his reasons 😀 This was a lot of fun Nat. Really enjoyed watching along with you today. Thanks for your video today, and thanks for all your awesome work this week. Have a brilliant weekend 💛
