I finally bought your Buffy collection on here now that you’ve made it to this episode. So excited for you to watch this entire show. It’s the best tv show ever in my opinion.

And this (along with other stuff later on and in flashbacks in the spin-off Angel that i think is more fucked up than this) is why Angelus is considered among the most evil characters in the series. Hes not the most powerful but Angelus is a pure sadist, he didnt even drink from jenny he just broke her neck and staged it to mess with Giles and probably hoped to get him arrested. And he done worse to others in his past, again Drusilla probably was the hight of his sadism. And he views it as art, Angelus broke this poor woman down then turned her so his masterpeice could endure forever.

At the beginning you were lamenting the lack of camp. There is not much camp in the rest of the show. Some bits here and there but for the most part this was the turning point. Jenny's death hit us all hard.

I would say Season 7 is the least campy, but the show is campy incarnate. It definitely keeps up the camp, I mean Season 4 is major campness. The show just does camp on a bigger budget.

I was a casual fan when this show was airing, and this is the episode where I was like "I can not miss a single episode moving forward". I realize now they didn't even want to bother with Angel trying to bite her, or biting her, or turning her and then maybe they could put her soul back. They just had Angel kill Jenny in a way that left no other avenue to really impact the viewer

I still remember seeing the trailer for this episode on TV spoiling that a character would die. Still heartbreaking all these years later.

This is a random suggestion but I’ll forget if I don’t mention it now. Legend of Vox Machina. Voice actors play aDnD campaign, the campaign gets translated into an animated show, same voice actors play the same characters.

Welcome to the Buffyverse, where NO ONE is safe.

You said you wanted to know what Angelus was like 😬

This is Angel, at his darkest, is it not? Great episode.

I can't remember if I've ever seen UV lights work against supernatural vampire, I think I've only seen it works in fictions where the vampirism is caused by a virus or similar. I do think I'd try it if I were to wake up in Sunnydale.

C
Captain Hammer · October 7, 2026

Yeah they specifically say sunlight. We don't know if its the UV that is the problem. I don't think it's meant to be taken as the science of sunlight, it's more the magic of sunlight that does the trick. Like wood through the heart. It's not the material that is scientifically killing them it's the symbolism of it.

As devastating as this episode is, the: “Sorry, Angel. Changed the locks.” *door slam* is SOOOO GOOD

I wish Nat could have gone into this ep more blind, but all the comments from last week to the effect of "oh no get ready for next week!" seemed to have tipped her off.

C

Yeah it's a shame I know people do it because they are excited and it's not malicious but I wish people would take a second to just think about what they post.

And there it is. The first major death of the show, executed by none other than Angelus. Just in time for Halloween season. This one's tragic, but also one of the best in the series imo.

Hi Natalie - I just watched your reaction to "Passion". You've hit one of the big shocking and sad Episodes in the Buffy-Angel Arc. These don't happen often, but when they do it's always a gut punch. But this sets the stage to what will come. There will always be the one-off fun episodes like "Bewitched" with Xander's spell gone hilariously wrong, and the new demon or paranormal ones like "Phases" where we discovered that Oz is a werewolf. The writers and producers always drop pearls that we realize in later episodes. That's a big part of the Engagement of wanting to keep watching every week back in the era of Episodic TV. There are Always more Creative Surprises to Come in the Buffyverse. Cheers! Dave PS - Natalie - I just watched the interview on the Charisma Carpenter "The Bitch is Back" podcast with Robia Scott, the actress who played Jeni Calender on Buffy. It's a fantastic dialogue between two actresses about doing the auctions, working on the show with the cast and crew, and especially on this Episode when Jeni is killed by Angelus. And what she is doing now. https://youtu.be/CgZyUdEU3u4?is=Gm5iHXo6DcIWsUQj

The shocked still hitss the same

C
Chris Cooper · October 6, 2026

Is there a problem with the audio on this video? I am getting some kind of interference/static noise in the background it seems

D
Darryl Low · October 6, 2026

I can hear what you mean when it's quiet. It's probably Nat's air conditioning combined with her mic's noise cancelling that's giving off that sound.

Really looking forward to your reaction on the new spider man movie 👀 its out on digital now!

I posted a spoiler warning comment a few weeks ago, after an episode where you were particularly excited over developments with Giles and Jenny, expressing how bad I felt knowing this episode was coming. I hope you stick with it, Buffy does a good job mixing humor with the tears throughout its run.

We’re here 😭😭😭 it’s been 30 years and I’ve never recovered from this moment. The moment where you realise Angel might really be irredeemable… the way he set it up to torture Giles ☹️☹️☹️ Giles coming in with the flaming bat gets me hype every time tho 😭 We told you it gets serous!!! 😭
