YouTube pop'd, and I went straight to Patreon. Thank you! and FYI spend 10-15 min on the IMDB CAST, there are many recognizable [favorite] faces including/especially Director.

What’s going on with the static noise when you’re silent/watching? It drops out when you speak but it’s super loud otherwise.

Battle Angel was an anime that came out in the early 90s, around the same time as some of the early anime classics like Akira and Ghost in the Shell. It hasn't quite reached the lofty heights that the other two cyberpunk classics did, but it holds its own. The story is kind of melodramatic (similar to the story in this adaptation), but the action sequences were awesome and it didn't hold back on the gore. Battle Angel is shockingly violent and it held its own with some of the more "splatterhouse" anime like Fist of the North Star and Ninja Scroll. I remember the early 90s I would go to Blockbusters and rent anime and I would watch tons of them, but Battle Angel is one of my favorites from that time period. I liked it even better than Akira, which at the time was a much more hyped up anime. Alita: Battle Angel, the adaptation, came out right before the pandemic. I feel like if the movie waited a few more years, like if it came out in late 2020 or in 2021, it would have been more successful. I think current viewers would be more forgiving of the cgi effects. The movie did well globally but not well enough domestically to carry it over its budget, so no sequel. Not long after the movie came out, Disney bought out 20th Century Fox, so now its up to Disney to green light a sequel to the movie that was competition to Captain Marvel.

The static noise continually cutting in and out was a bit annoying, but otherwise I enjoyed the reaction.

My next feature suggestions: - Boogie Nights - The Count of Montecristo

It’s still wild to me that this came out in 2019, the same year as *The Rise of Skywalker*. Remember that “cinematic masterpiece,” kids? Now here we are in the last quarter of 2026, still without a sequel to this far superior sci-fi action film, but with an endless stream of mindless, soulless, mechanical Star Wars content they’ve been spoon-feeding us ever since. Both films featured strong female leads, so no, that and the so-called “woke” stuff aren’t my issues with Star Wars. My problem is the awful storytelling and lack of character development. But with a billion-dollar IP behind it, Disney can churn out garbage and we’ll keep consuming it—or at least we did. Until this past summer, when *Mando & Grogu* tanked. Now, at last, we have the one thing we need: hope.

great movie, ruined by the ending , for me at least

The ending was perfect. It's obviously an ending meant to say the story wasn't over. Production for the sequel starts in 2027.

Met one of the motorball stunt actors at the skate park in Venice during the pandemic, got some cool pictures of them catching some air!

Rosa Salazar and the effects department really make this movie. I really enjoy her sense of wonder and enjoyment in discovering the world, and on the flipside her being an absolute badass. "Fuck your mercy" was such a great moment in the cinema. I'd love to have seen more but unfortunately I think they rushed through so much of the source material with this one movie that they didn't leave enough to make a satisfying second one.

I'm not super familiar with the manga but they have literally tons of source material. That was a very long running manga.

One suggestion for the YouTube edit - have Cam or Tyler enlarge your eyes by 30% for the whole video lol (or at least the intro)

I unexpectedly really enjoyed this movie when it came out. Pretty much solely because of Alita and Doc Ido. She's so pure and full of just voracious hunger for life, in ways we've all lost. She's literally like a newborn, experiencing everything for the first time and seeing that spark and awe for things we would take for granted is really cool. To be honest I think that's why we enjoy watching reaction channels like yours, Nat, it's as close as we can get to experiencing things we like again for the first time, we get to see those initial feelings develop in real time vicariously through you, and that's a pretty cool feeling. Her character mainlines that feeling the entire time, because it's all new to her. (Definitely got more philosophical than I intended, my bad.)

This is not an Oscar winner - except maybe for effects or set design. Popcorn flick. But it's a fun, enjoyable, Cyberpunk movie and we don't get very many of those. It unfortunately suffered from a case of bad timing, and didn't make enough money for the sequel right away. Which is unfortunate, because with the big names attached to it, many of us wanted to see the continuation of the story.

Fun reaction. Glad you enjoyed the movie. I saw this in theatres when I was visiting family in Jacksonville pre-pandemic. What's kind of funny is that when I went to see this movie my nephew chose to go watch Green Book that also featured Mahershala Ali.

I have mixed feelings about this movie. I enjoyed it but never rewatched it and I think because it just hits a bit too much uncanny valley for me. If you have seen any of the pictures of Nvidia DLSS 5 modded onto anime games it gives me that vibe.

“Not sure why my fans chose this dystopian action movie for me…” 10 mins into the film - “Oh, this kindly old man is absolutely gonna die” like some kind of Purge Whisperer

Jennifer Connolly, Demi Moore, and Colbie Smolders, kinda look similar.

Natalie Gold · September 5, 2026

hmmm idk if I see it with Colbie Smulders, but maybe that's because I was such a big HIMYM fan

This movie came out when I was living in PR where alitas are chicken wings so we’ve always called this movie Chicken Wing: Battle Angel.

Alita Battle Bagel Day! I've been waiting for several years, wanting you to watch this one Nat. I am glad you liked it. And the (waaaaaay too long in the making) 2nd part/sequel is supposedly being developed by Cameron and Rodriguez. But not green-lit yet. Thank you for crossing this one off "the list"!

Happy Feature Friday Nat. Been looking forward to watching this movie with you all week. It's a really cool movie with a lot of great visuals and fun action 😊 Post: This was a lot of fun Nat. It was really cool watching this movie in 3D at the cinema. It was done so well. Hopefully we will see a sequel one day. Maybe James Cameron will do it himself once he's done with Avatar 😅
