I almost turned it off after Sarah's murder, just because it was just sad. P.S. Tyler is hilarious.
I was a bit confused by the montage too, but the characters do say it had only been about a week, which does make sense because Nikki would have initiated these romantic moments very quickly, which Bear would have loved. In regards to the Cat, I took it as he threw it in the trash, which is gross, but makes sense I guess.
“It’s not a romance, it’s a love story.” Sums up the whole movie
As of today, Obsession has made over 400 million dollars at the box office on a budget of only $750,000 Making it one of the most profitable movies of ALL TIME Horror stays winning 🫡🫡🫡
A movie I was actually lucky enough to see this in theatres! I remember seeing the trailer like over a year before release and it piqued my interest immediately. I’m so glad it had the reception it did 🥹 The saddest part of all of this is that i really think Nikki was interested in Bear, to some degree at least, before the wish. She literally gave him the chance to confess his feelings to her face, but his own insecurity and fear of being hurt prevented him from taking it. A moment that I think is mirrored in his initial choice to use a gun to kill himself at the end, before deciding on the easier, “less painful” way of sleeping pills. Just another horror protagonist refusing to take responsibility for his actions and so his actions take responsibility of him (I love it) Inde Navaratte definitely stole the show in this, a true standout performance that demanded almost the entire emotional spectrum in multiple scenes, and she delivered! Can’t wait to see where she goes 🫡
The scene in the car when Bear is initially driving her home was filmed with multiple takes on purpose (one with her definitely interested in him, one with her not interested, one indifferent, etc.) and then those takes were edited together so that it was ambiguous in the final cut. We aren't supposed to know if she was actually interested in him or not, just like he isn't supposed to know. It ties in with the line when she actually says that when she has a crush on a guy, no one knows.
Your copy probably was darker than intended, the one with the Universal logo at the start. I think some other regions got versions where it actually isn't dark enough, and you see more of the makeup than you should.
Hereditary still #1 reaction I’d say this is #2
Can I come innnnnnn xD
The script had Nikki dying at the end along with everybody else and that's how they filmed it on set as well. After filming several takes as planned they gave Inde one take to try out the ending where Nikki lives. She obviously nailed it in one shot and Curry Barker was basically convinced by others in his inner circle that he needed to go with that ending instead of what he originally planned.
I was going to bring this up. I'm glad I scanned through first and also that someone else keen on the behind-the-scenes. There was so much collaboration between Inde and Curry in how everything got portrayed throughout the film.
That last improv LOL, It was too short Nat. I need full episode of that! people obsess with this movie for reason. I really enjoyed that and thnks to you , watched again.
Just seeing the budget was $750,000 is wild because they probably spent all that on just the duct tape for the door, that stuff is expensive lol.
Obsession became my favorite horror movie! I've watched pretty much every talked-about horror movie and almost never get scared, but this one was different. The second Bear snapped Willow, something about Nikki just terrified me. I've never had a character make me feel that uneasy before
Put some newspapers down if he's going to just wait for you out there! 😆 I wonder how many girls thought of screaming "STAY" as their partner is getting out of bed, after watching this? 🤔
you two are so funny!!!
Bear was being wishy-washy/ fence sitting because ultimately he's not a good person. He's a coward who's infatuated with this girl and he'd rather have his dream girl be a maniac and try and "control" the situation than admit that the situation is horrible. His "obsession" was his (and his friends's and the poor real Nikki, who has to live with all this) ultimate downfall.
agreed
What a spectacular debut for such a young director. Wow. Since this film did so well, I am positive this will get a sequel but I hope they choose a more anthology-style instead of a direct sequel. The One Wish Willow could be a starting point for different stories, or maybe just obsession-type stories. So cool to see something original do well!
I think there is a lot to explore with the Nikki character and how she moves on from this. I don't want her to go to prison and if she had her attorney make a wish or somehow got out of prison time, it would be a compelling character arc of someone that everyone else thinks is a psycho killer. Like what if Casey Anthony or Jody Arias was actually innocent.
Wow. That was a crazy movie. The part at the end of your reaction with your husband was hilarious. You two are adorable 😊
This movie is having a generational run at the box office for indie horror. Well deserved success.
great reaction as usual! bear might win the award for most infuriating protagonist of the year LMAO it's actually surprised me how many reactors try to defend him. and with the way this reaction started I thought you might go easy on him too lol on your critique: I think his lack of growth is definitely an intentional subversion. I kept expecting some kind of redemption or hero moment, but it never comes because he's too much of a coward and too self-deluded to ever earn it
He would literally rather use a wish to make his crush to lose all control than just tell her that he likes her and wants to go out with her. He was also incredibly cowardly in not trying to help Sarah at all. Like he just cowers in the corner rather than try to stop Nikki from harming her. I literally yelled out when that happened. Same thing earlier when they're at the party and he just freezes. Apparently, in the original script Bear just swallows the pills but the actor was like, no he should try to get out of this too.
Happy Feature Friday Nat. Enjoyed your streams last night. I've yet to watch this movie, but I've heard good things, so look forward to watching it with you. Have an awesome 4th of July weekend Nat 💛
Can I ask when do you plan to watch 28 Years Later The Bone Temple?
not really sure
If Sinners can get so many nominations at the Oscars this one deserves them as well. Especially Inde, her performance absolutely slapped
I'd add Emily Blunt in DISCLOSURE DAY to that list.
Yay!! I didn’t think we’d actually get this haha.
Seriously, Nikky needs to get one of those wish snappers and wish that she gets acquitted. It would be even more tragic if she ends up going to prison for shit that wasn't her fault. I would actually really like to see a sequel or another movie where she has to deal with everyone thinking she's a lunatic and her being like, "no, I was possessed by an evil wish!" Also, Ian was totally trying to sabotage Baron in the beginning. He deliberately gave him bad advice not because he wanted Nikki but because he just didn't want Bear to be successful. Bear was so unlikeable, especially when Nikki attacks Sarah and he just whines in the passenger seat instead of trying to help. I literally yelled out, "you pussy!" when he did that. Also, I do agree that they could have tightened up the mid-section more. About 5-10 minutes could have been cut to improve the pacing and to make her downward fall more consistent. Also, the billion dollars should disappear after Ian dies. If not, you know the IRS will seize that money.
She only gets one wish and she used it
My 4K blu-ray comes in 2 weeks, can't wait to watch along then!! My favorite movie of 2026 so far.
This has managed to surpass the lifetime box office gross of SINNERS, and did it on a budget less than 1% of that film’s. Such an incredible feat! OBSESSION has overtaken SINNERS as the highest grossing original live action film of this decade that isn’t a remake/franchise entry nor a biopic/historical film. Also, this is proving to be a great year for female lead performances in genre films. I sincerely hope you also see DISCLOSURE DAY, which has an extraordinary performance by Emily Blunt.
Me: Running red lights trying to get back home to watch this with you
oh god!
Yay!! Amazing that you loved it too like the rest of the world (me included obvi)
