So happy to know we're getting more Buffy. I haven't watched this show since it aired and this has already been a fun rewatch

Kinda hope they never fix the log line just to fuck with people

I can't wait for you to continue this show. I find the first couple of episodes of Season 2 to be pretty weak, but after that is becomes very good. Season 2 and Season 3 are both bangers, Season 4 has some big lows but also some big highs (one of the episodes was nominated for an Emmy award for the writing). There are quite a few very creative episodes, and I believe a few TV firsts through out the whole arc of buffy. All the characters are great and make you want to come back for more.

“What do you think? 5.1?” Suchhhh a good line, I’ve been waiting all season 😂 Also love how quick and easy Buffy shut down Xander, and Willow refusing to be his second pick. Like these are such good character decisions that quickly cut out that drama and I feel like they would be drawn out a lot longer in more modern tv shows I love how you’ve came around on characters like Cordelia 😭🫶🏼 truly just a vibed out queen!

To be fair Buffy, Xander, and Angel didn't know the library was under siege and their friends were at risk. But more importantly sometimes looking badass takes priority.

When Buffy first aired it was a mid season replacement. It was possible for Buffy to die and a new slayer be called. A very stressful 15 minutes in my life watching TV. Buffy's dress... could it be virgin white, something one would dress a sacrifice in? Angel is a walking corpse he does not have the "breath of life".

Cole Crouse · June 30, 2026

I'm excited for you to get to the next season. Everything gets taken up a notch, the sets, the choreography, the music, the writing, the cinematography, everything. This was a midseason replacement that was filmed all at once with a shoestring budget. Next season, it finds its footing where it mixes the drama, the camp, the humor, and the horror more expertly, and becomes the show we all love. And I promise you, if you like some of the characters now, then this is the show for you. It has some of the best character arcs on TV that still stand to this day.

I really hope Natalie changes her mind and watches all 7 seasons.

Disappointed you made light of the seriousness of this episode. Sarah's acting was so good and all you could do is make fun. What made this series great was the combination of drama and comedy and I thought you could appreciate that but obviously not. I'm out of here.

The second season is really good. But if you make it through season 3, I'm pretty sure you'll be here until the end.

I think Buffy is primarily a character driven show. The supernatural challenges and so on are fun, but the primary pull is watching these kids as they grow up and deal with highschool.

slypeartree · June 30, 2026

The Hellmouth was there all season without being opened, it does influence the area while being closed. I'm so glad the Buffy won in the poll.

The Buffy speech about not wanting to die still gets me every time. I’m am a little suspicious when any reactor dismisses it. I’ll still stay a member to she if she gets the show at some point.

D
Dana · July 1, 2026

What's interesting is that the show deliberately even makes fun of itself for the more dramatic moments, so its self aware and pretty clever about it. But the show isn't a sitcom, so if drama isn't your thing its not the show for you (general you), or actually any Whedon shows really

Season 3 is probably the overalt strongest season, at least when it comes to the central plotline. It's also when the show concistently and perfectly nails the tone and feel of the show and balancing drama and humour.

A question for other members. I’ve always watched reactions that have the unblurred video . How do so watch this and my copy of the show on the same screen.

C
Casual Nerd Reactions · June 30, 2026

On my computer I put Natalie’s video in picture picture mode on the bottom right corner and the episode in full screen. It stays perfectly in sync when watching on Disney plus, and requires adjustments at the commercial breaks when watching the version I own on fandango at home.

In the first episode, Buffy tells Giles "To make you a vampire, they have to suck your blood and then you have to suck their blood. It's, like, a whole big sucking thing. Mostly they're just going to kill you." So, getting bitten won't turn you into a vampire. It is a deliberate act to turn someone. Also, interesting fact since you mentioned multiple times how this episode felt like a soap opera. Sarah Michelle Gellar's notable role before this was a soap opera. (63 episodes, according to IMDB, on Swans Crossing).

Bobby B · June 30, 2026

season 2 is really where the show finds its identity and its able to balance the drama and the camp more if you like season 2 its fair to say you'll like the tone for the rest of the show and it starts alot of the characters on the journeies they'll be on for most of the show and the over arching villians from here on are much more interesting (mostly) Season 2 probably has the best main villian in the whole franchise across both shows but ill say no more until you meet him.

A_206 · June 30, 2026

Season 1, and if I remember correctly, the first couple of episodes of season 2 feel like they're still trying to sell the concept to either the audience, or more likely the network, but once they find their voice and the show is allowed to just be what it is...it gets great.

C
Casual Nerd Reactions · June 30, 2026

This was a blast! Rest assured, there is plenty of camp and melodrama in the future, but it is significantly better balanced and less jarring as it navigates the two extremes. Season 2 as a whole is miles ahead of season 1, but my personal favorite seasons are still to come.

The Campy tone definitely goes down in the following seasons, though still fun and clever, definitely less cheese.

Happy "Buffy" Tuesday, Natalie! 😊 Welcome to the season 1 finale episode! This is one of my top 10 all-time favorite episodes of the whole series. "Gile, I'm 16 years old. I don't want to die." Such a fantastic performance by both Sarah Michelle Gellar and Anthony Head(RIP always) during this scene. So excited for you to get started on season two next. Have a great day today! Stay Golden! 💛

Can’t wait to cry when I get home!!! READ ME THE SIGNS!! TELL ME MY FORTUNE! That whole scene breaks my heart 🥺 “Giles, I’m 16 years old… I don’t want to die.” obv SMG was not 16 here, but her delivery and acting in that scene is a taste of how good the show is gonna get. It reminds you that she really is just a kid with the whole world on her shoulders ☹️ And Cordeliaaaaaa getting involved and helping the gang okay queen!!!! Drove into that school like she drove into my heart 🫶🏼 So excited for season 2, the premiere is a favourite of mine 😁 the camp definitely stays but it’s foremost a character driven show so you better get ready to cry!! you’re gonna love it

B
Bobby B · June 30, 2026

SMG is so underrated as an actress how she didnt get an emmy for season 5 for THAT episode (if you know you know).

danzthename · June 30, 2026

Buffy's dress and the jacket are a nod to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie that came out in the early 90s.

B
Bobby B · June 30, 2026

we do not speak of that film.

I will definitely be back for some more Buffy in a month or so, soon as finances stretch far enough for an extra Patreon. I loved season 1 when it first aired. I'd already seen the Buffy movie, which is like camp dialled up to 11, so I had a lot of fun with how campy the first season was. There is some debate in the fandom as to what the exact moment was when Buffy really changed as a show, and became the iconic series it would eventually become. For me it's always been that moment when Buffy says, "Giles I'm 16 years old, I don't wanna die". Like yeah obviously we knew she wasn't actually going to die, but the whole tone of that scene felt so different to what had come before. You're in for quite a ride with this show. Buffy is like a warm comfy blanket that randomly decides to attack you with all the feelings.

Happy Tuesday Nat. Remember the old tech proverb. If in doubt, battery out! 😅 Glad you got your camera sorted. Excited for more epic Buffy today 😊 This was another cool episode. The Master finally made it out, but probably instantly regretted it haha. Been a lot of fun watching this series with you Nat. As you said, it has a really great cast of characters. I look forward to watching season 2 with you 😊

Have you seen the show before?

B
Bobby B · June 30, 2026

I voted for more Buffy but I’d do love the new Westeros stuff. Knight of the seven kingdoms is legitimately great the second season is coming out next year so it may be worth a watch closer to that time. 2 episodes in season 3 of HOTD is actually really good but those episodes were basically supposed to be the 9th and 10th episodes of season 2 before the strikes and HBO slashed the episode count.
