FIRST TIME WATCHING: Independence Day

Happy Feature Friday!

This is an early 4th of July release! This movie was so fun and cheesy. I had a great time with it and hope you enjoy watching it with me! I watched this on Disney+ for those who are curious.

As always, thank you so much for your support here on Patreon. Until the next one, stay golden! ✨

"Thank God the Americans have decided, none of us knew what the f*** we were doing" Not a couple hours ago, I watched an interview with the CEO of Rheinmetall on the wretched state of German defense and energy independence. He quoted Angela Merkel directly telling him "we don't need you, if anything goes wrong we'll just call the Americans." Possible Truth In Television here.

Man I love this movie. I am not technically one of the tribe because my dad was Jewish and my mom is not, but I'm a half-Jew living in NYC loving Judd Hirsch in this movie and just kinda here for Natalie reacting to it.

As a Brit I love this most American of movies.

you mentioned armageddon at the beginning of the video, but unfortunately you have not reacted to it. BTW, the guy that plays Jeff Goldblum's father has a physics degree in real life

There was a deleted scene explaining that our computer technology was based off the alien technology which is why our computers can infect their's. Also, I was apperently watching the directors cut of the film. I had no idea! I kept seeing scenes I have never seen before haha. Made matching up your reaction to it a game of cat and mouse. Haha I loved this movie as a kid. I watched it like every day when I got home from school when we got it on VHS. Lord, I'm old.

Should do Mars Attacks as a companion piece...

I first saw this at the cinema back when it was released and I cannot overstate the laughter the Independence day speech brought out of the audience here in Norway. People were almost shitting themselves with laughter.

This came before Men In Black, but I remember seeing a trailer for MIB and thinking Wil Smith, aliens? Holy crap its Independence Day 2!

I think the only other actor I’ve seen her swoon over is Charlie Cox in Daredevil but this film she was just unhinged over Jeff Goldblum which is honestly understandable dude was the perfect mix of Nerdy and Sexy in this.

I would also highly recommend the series The World According to Jeff Goldblum which sadly got pulled from streaming from Disney+ but has been preserved on the Internet Archive. I hope it's okay to share the link here: https://archive.org/details/the.-world.-according.to.-jeff.-goldblum.-series

Love this movie. Saw it in theatres with my Mom on July 3, 1996. Very happy you liked it. This might be my first viewing that I noticed a couple things. 1) Harvey Fierstein's character Marty calls a 'Dr. Katz' who shares the same as an animated show from 1995-2002, and 2) Jeff Goldblum says "Must go faster" or something similar in both this and Jurassic Park.

Trivia on Amazon Prime quotes Dean Devlin (one of the writers) as saying that most of the dialogue in the scenes Jeff Goldblum shared with Judd Hirsch and Will Smith was improvised. I believe it. As others have said, seeing this in the theaters when it came out was so much fun. It's always good on a rewatch, too.

I was looking for the movie but couldn't find it... so I was just going to check out some of the reaction without visuals... but then you said it's on Disney, whoah yea... so I got to watch after all. If you didn't know I think everyone loves this movie 🙂 those who actually watched it... you know just like you were reluctant to watch it... people you know just don't know how to have fun - well I'm glad you liked it. Yes it's quotable and re-watchable - especially as reaction videos, I'm always drawn to see another new reaction 😆 One of my favorite reactions is from a European who watched this... from Belgium who was you might have guessed closed to it at the start... and was making fun of how "the Americans" were behaving... But then you know by the end she was won over and was very happy and enjoyed it very much because... you know... "this American movie... may no longer be known as just for Americans... We can no longer be consumed by petty difference any longer. It's about time that the world came together as one... That we will not go quietly into the night! We will enjoy this movie, and we will live on!..." This movie whose title is... Independence Day! The speech was just sketched out in 5 minutes by the writers because they wanted to see how Bill Pullman's character would do it. On the first rehearsal in front of extras he gave such a rousing impassioned speech the extras all broke out in spontaneously cheering and in awe... They just needed some different camera angles after that. "They look kinda young... kinda nervous... Let me borrow that mic..."

I remember seeing this movie in the theater as a kid with my dad. It was the 90s and a heatwave and seeing this in the theaters over the 4th of july weekend was so much fun. Everyone in the theater cheered when Will Smith said "welcome to earth" and punched the alien. We all laughed when the guy said "I'm back". The laughs were so loud and the threater was packed. It was an old summer blockbuster hit.

K
Keith Jacobsen · June 26, 2026

BTW Nat, the sequel is TRASH but it was quite funny to watch. One of the funniest unintentional comedies of that year. (imo)

CHRISXGAMESALOT · June 26, 2026

This Is my first time watching this and your reaction made it into a comedy.

R
Roook · June 26, 2026

I got to see this in theaters on July 4th right after release. Packed theater and it was the wildest and loudest audience I've ever seen. Every Will Smith line had the whole audience roaring and people were cheering their heads off when the humans started winning lol

OMG I'd forgotten how emotional I get in the final 3rd of the movie, I always get a bit teary eyed when the odds are against us and someone makes an inspiring motivational speech... 😭🤣

Hi Nat, I love this film as it takes me back to my youth.... Did you notice the soldier who met the President at Area 51 was the Adam Baldwin who played Jayne in Firefly?

Mastervodo · June 26, 2026

I am absolutely loving Natalie ovulating over Jeff Goldblum. Maybe this is the year we finally get Goldblum's sexiest movie ever - THE FLY! - for Natmares! Serious! Write it down! It's a Jeff Goldblum MUST WATCH movie! And, FYI - it won the Oscar that year for best makeup and hairstyling. So.... Oscar winner! How many horror films do we get to watch that win Oscars, huh? HUH? Also - to keep in that theme - 8 Legged Freaks.

N
Natalie Gold · June 28, 2026

I will admit, I'm more motivated to watch The Fly now than ever before...

Such a great cast! Judd Hirsch is one incredible character actor too (loved him as Jeff Goldblum's dad here). He was equally as great in the Steven Spielberg semi-autobiographical film THE FABELMANS (2022), which would make a great watch too!

T
Tarjei · June 26, 2026

Judd Hirsch and Jeff Goldblum playing father and son is legit the best part of the film. I'm willing to watch ever those two does separately and doubly over when I get them in the same film. Even a cheeseball film like this. Oh, and the second best thing is Randy Quaid as Randy Quaid...

J

I remember my high school english teacher telling us how ridiculous this movie was because he owned the same Apple Laptop that David used to decode the countdown and said it could barely manage opening a word document nevermind decode an alien countdown.

David Sumner · June 26, 2026

This movie won an Oscar... for being the most freaking awesome movie ever!!!

Happy Feature Friday, Natalie! 😊 Happy early 4th of July! This movie is perfect for the upcoming holiday. And it's always a must-watch for me every 4th of July. There's usually a marathon of it on tv every year. This is easily one of my top favorite Jeff Goldblum, Will Smith, and Bill Pullman films. I do recommend the 2016 sequel "Independence Day Resurgence". Not as great as this one. But still a good movie. Looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today! Stay Golden! 💛

Holy crap, it's Friday?! (I NEVER know what day it is) Looking forward to checking this out. For some reason, I just mainly want to see her reactions to Randy Quaid's character. Gotta find a DVD of it though. There's gotta be one SOMEWHERE in this house, lol.

Happy Feature Friday Nat. I've been hyped and looking forward to watching this movie with you all week. I've finished work, I have my dinner and I'm sitting down to watch now haha. It's such a fun, epic movie 😄 This was the best way to start the weekend Nat. Had a blast watching it with you. This was the next movie from the team that made Stargate, with another epic score by David Arnold. They were able to keep the budget down by doing so much practical stuff for the visuals. Bill Pullman's stirring speech always gets the hype meter high haha. Judd Hirsch as Pops is so good. I'm always quoting lines from him. The guy that you kept thinking was Ben Affleck, was actually your man Jayne from Firefly! Haha we all love Jeff Goldblum Nat 😄 The filmmakers really wanted him for the role of David. So much so that when they were writing the script, they were reading the lines in his voice 😊 You will definitely have to check him out in The Fly for spooky season now haha Thanks for an awesome reaction today Nat. It was much needed. You promised us fireworks, and you delivered 😊
