I NEED Natalie to watch Obsession. I just booked a ticket for my third viewing.

Danishprince · June 7, 2026

She had meant to watch it this week but it got pulled from digital release due to the massive success in cinemas

I enjoyed this well enough. I totally understand the issues you had though. Apparently bone temple is better so I guess i'll give it a shot when you get to it.

I did not like this movie, and frankly have not liked any of the 28 movies, but frankly i found myself loving Bone Temple surprisingly.

I know some films you need to watch right away for reasons but I will say it would be fine every now and then if you just decided to watch something because you wanted to watch it without doing a poll every time. After all we're here for your reaction and seeing you react to something you want to watch is going to be more fun than seeing you react to something you feel obligated to watch.

It's a rite of passage; to prepare a child to enter the world of adult. And yes it's fucked up that he brings his kid out so young, in effect forcing his 12 yr old to become an adult out of what reeks of pride. The film explores the role lf fathers and different forms of farherhood. Ironically the one man that is not Spike's dad does a much better job of handling Spike's fear and grief over his mother: Representing a far healthier rolemodel in that regard than his actual father by communicating with him about. Wheras his father shuts him out from his pain and grief and sees comfort with another woman.

They don't collect the arrows because a single drop of blod is enough to contract the infection- just not worth the risk. Alfie Williams is so good in this, the kid's a natural. Also it was this film and Nosferatu that sold me on Aaron Taylor-Johnson - had my doubts up untill these performances. The themes of death, natural vs violent, and how to deal with it, come to accept it and remember those we loose are beautifully explored. And held up against how a closed off society traumatised by calimities has turned to tribalism and cultural nostalgia; trying to reconstruct mythological past instead of forging a new future.

The undercurrent of the movie is about the toxic aspects of isolationism and some of the pushing of boys to be militaristic too early. You were right to be confused by them pushing him too early... particularly by his father who was TOO EAGER for him to grow up fast. Erik was a representation of what Spike could have grown up to be. Jimmy will be another example of what he could be. Also: Spike goes from one cult to another cult. Erik represents the military aspects, Jimmy will represent the religious aspects. In a lot of ways, these 28 Years Later movies are more metaphorical and "fanciful" because they are about a young boy's journey into becoming a man and the situations he finds himself in are metaphorical aspects of that process. The Bone Temple is highly recommended to watch as soon as possible.

Regarding the Buffy reactions—I just saw Anthony Head, who played Giles the librarian, just died from pneumonia complications

I know, so sad :(

I did not liked it much as the other 2 movies. However even if you feel like me, watch the next one: 28 years later bone temple, I really loved that one, and Ralph Fiennes is amazing on it. I strongly recommend it, even when is a direct sequel is a very different movie.

I agree. Bone temple was very enjoyable.

Happy Feature Friday Nat. Enjoyed the stream last night and chatting about movies 😊 I may give this one another shot over the weekend and watch it with you. I tried to watch it a while back but ending up switching it off after half an hour. It just didn't grab me at all, and wasn't what I was expecting after the previous 2 entries. Have an awesome weekend Nat 😊

This film was a little disappointing but still pretty decent imo. The next film, The Bone Temple, was paced much better and had a better overall storyline, though it did horrible in theaters (prob cuz everyone hated this one lol). I hope they still finish the trilogy cuz that last scene in Bone Temple got me hyped!

R
Rob · June 5, 2026

Yeah I just saw Bone Temple and that is an amazing film, I hope she watches it

Shouldve watched 28 weeks later first. It was a great movie, and better than the first years later. I really don’t understand the point of skipping films in a series, even if they aren’t necessary to watch the newest one. Its still the next instalment and should be watched.

M
Mike Hell · June 5, 2026

She missed nothing by skipping Weeks because it is irrelevant to the plot points of this film trilogy.

D
Danishprince · June 5, 2026

Overall I really loved this one though I did have my issues with some of the editing choices and then that ending was just.. Special to say the least 😅

The ending I felt was more a critical commentary of the general public’s almost childlike tendency to put people on pedestals, and why that is a dangerous thing. This is especially true considering who that character is modeling his look on, not to mention the increasing amount of people and any visual media that get vitriolic backlashes when it doesn’t follow the script they’ve concocted in their heads (a fact becoming increasingly common nowadays).

This film (along with the criminally underrated THE LIFE OF CHUCK) came at the most serendipitous time of my life. Both movies came just before my grandmother (who I was close to) passed away (she had dementia in her final years). Both movies explored life and death in unique and powerful ways, including the importance of memories. Both movies are among the Top 7 films of 2025 for me, with the decision to explore death in this genre being a great creative swing. SIDE NOTE: It was insane that Jack O’Connell did this and SINNERS in the same year (he played the lead vampire Remmick in that film). Also, that ending was a brilliant meta-commentary on the general public’s tendency to put people on pedestals, doubly so considering Jack’s character is dressed up to look like Jimmy Savile.
