Armin at this point doesn't know how Marco died, Nobody does... he was killed offscreen. All Armin picked up on was "Annie had Marco's ODM" based on the scratch marks on it. He had worked with Marco before and recognized it. We can even see the exact moment when that happens. It's a VERY subtle foreshadowing when Annie and Armin are talking while their gear is being reviewed. So Armin was on to Annie WAYYY before the recon mission started. So the actual penny dropping is not "Annie is the female titan" it's "Armin figured it out before we did"
I too will commit the sin of saying I think the dub is better than sub for this show (all opinions valid that's just my preference). Sure not all the VA in dub is great but I think this is definitely one of the better animes for dub. Matt Mercer is my Levi.
I did a hard analysis of the English dubs vs the subtitles of this show on YT. The dialogue is even harder to follow in English, because they speak so irregularly. No real human being in reality talks the way that the English dub speaks, but they insist on their weird translation. You being able to read the dialogue that you miss while having your reaction (which is why we're subscribing) is optimal. In English dub, not only is the dialogue more unnatural than the subs, but you risk accidentally talking over important details. And in THIS show, in particular, where there's mystery and intrigue and hints everywhere, you need to have full attention to the details.
I prefer the back to back same day ngl
I know many would consider this a sin but i do prefer the dub to the sub for this show, its such a exposition heavy show with so much going on screen i do think its a show best viewed in whatever your native tounge is, plus the English voice actors do a really good job. Favorite characters gotta be armin and reiner.
The subtitles are pretty bad-the English voice over is a better translation at least in the first couple seasons
on crunchy roll the first 2 seasons of subbed are terrible compared to dubbed it gets better after that though dont know why.. ive watched other reactions of ppl for aot and they used something else to watch the subbed and its way better..dont know why it would be different
Favorite character is Sasha (Potato Girl)!
Can't wait for tomorrow! You have to watch the sawano video of this soundtrack!
I liked Connie
If you take out the obvious badass favourites like Levi and Erwin, then my favourite has to be Sasha 🫡 we haven’t seen her in a while but she’s the potato eating girl!! Out here finding the joy, god bless 🥹 She gets more time to shine next season dw
God, it’s been so long since i first watched that I forgot how the Annie reveal happens, but I KNEW it happened here, and my heart still dropped when you see the scouts on the roof 😭 “it’s so quiet.” The way she’s spinning some of these guys too 😭 Annie what is your damage please
Tough call in terms of favourite character... If I take Levi out of the running lol. #2 would be Erwin I think. I like the trio but Erwin and Levi are just so good.
Captain Levi is a BAMF
Yeah the nuances get a bit tough to read, esp with it being animated. My take is that the underground dialogue is basically a façade. By that point, both Annie and the others already understand what is happening. The group is trying to corner her by leading her underground, where the Female Titan would be disadvantaged, and Annie immediately realizes it. But Annie cannot go underground without surrendering her advantage, and she also cannot let Eren leave, because capturing him is her goal (it's also her last chance to capture him as he will be killed as soon as he's returned to the military police). So her excuse is not really about fear of the underground itself. It is the last layer of social pretense before open conflict. The tension comes from everyone talking around the truth while already knowing the confrontation is inevitable. When Mikasa openly identifies her, that pretense finally breaks, and Annie’s laughter becomes the release of a situation that both sides already knew could only end in a fight.
My favorite character is by far Eren especially because of the later seasons.
Your reading the right dialogue translation it’s just that Annie has cryptic/confusing dialogue that you won’t understand till later
I think the crunchyroll translation is terrible, tbh. The subs I use from the Blu Ray are much better.
I don’t think it has anything to with the translation. I think she’s meaning what does Annie mean when she says certain things and how the dialogue is cryptic, which is done intentionally. I could be wrong but that’s what I think she’s confused on.
I am once again asking you to please take an extra minute to watch the end credits....they really do become important in later seasons, as soon as the season 2 credits.... You could talk about your thoughts and theories while they play :) I've seen this show 4 times now, and on my 3rd viewing I finally started watching the end credits and I wished I'd watched them on my first viewing.
Natalie, I haven't watched this far into the show, in fact I'm like 4 or 5 episodes behind, and I’m not sure if you’re aware of this or not but thank goodness I’m here to tell you, but I am pretty sure that I read somewhere on the internet that there is a post credit scene after the finale. Not 100% sure about it but I'm getting a strong feeling. It’s very likely. I think. Also I know you probably watched this episode on Sunday but I’m sending telepathic vibes to you into the past so you remember. Nobody else even thought to do that, I bet.
Remember, post credit scene tomorrow!
remember, the finale has a post credit scene
its not that armin made a connection with marcos gear and her being the female titan. him realizing she had marcos gear made him suspicious of her since the day they had that inspection after sawny and bean were killed. and the female titan looking like annie, and the nickname he used. she used her own gear to kill them but switched to marcos on day of inspection to pass. also, missing that part about petras patch, theres nothing to really be worried about, its an easy thing to miss. its not like levi narrated he was cutting the patch off or something. the most we got was him kneeling down to a mostly unknown body and then we see him handing the patch later. easy thing to miss. and yeah, theres an after credits scene in the next episode, the finale to season 1.
As the guy that wrote the comment about Petras patch i agree completely its not something thats "meant" to be seen on the first watch, its more a tidbit that you might notice on a rewatch. In my opinion the second rewatch is almost as good as the first because theres SO MUCH foreshadowing you can pick up on knowing where the story goes, an example is something Annie said in this episode (if you know, you know) which can easily be glosed over but gets a much deeper meaning later in the story.
Hi Nat, in case you don’t know episode 25 has a post credit scene. There are no post credit scenes in Season 2, people can reply to confirm or correct me below
Armin got confirmation from both Marco's gear that has a mark on it and her not killing him and she's the only blonde chick who can fight lol.
Happy Titan Tuesday Nat. Hope your doing ok. Excited to see how this season concludes 😊 You went back and forth on your theory, but you were right Nat haha. Epic showdown tomorrow. I think my favourite character is Armin. He's definitely a brains before brawn kind of guy and has got them out of some tough scrapes. Look forward tomorrow's finale. Cheers Nat 😊
