I'd like to see an episode about the Italian Futurists, an art movement that loved speed, machines, and fascism. They also had very . . . interesting ideas about food. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurist_cooking

Love that this dropped on YouTube on my birthday. I might need to make this.

Possible evil subjects: Idi Amin of Uganda or Leopold II of Belgium.

Great history, great food. Pour that grain of salt into his eye, and rub it in.

FYI, typo on the Apicius recipe card, "startch" for "starch".

This is like an ancient Roman version of Buta no Kakuni.

If you want a good contender, consider Pol Pot. The movie "The Killing Fields" is a true story. And it's a good opportunity to work in some Cambodian cuisine.

'It's hard to decide who was the most cruel, sadistic, and frankly psychotic of them all.' Gee, how topical!

What I would like to know is "where did A Grain of Salt" come from?

No, because you say, "when it comes to" you jump immediately in video and voice to "probably. Then an eighth teaspoon" Just checked, and it happens at 3:55.

Not sure why this comment didn't nest properly, sorry!

Another story I read (possibly apocryphal, of course) was that in his youth Caligula was kidnapped and held for ransom by pirates. Before being ransomed ended up charming his captors, and at one point when joking around with them said that when he became emperor he would track them all down and slaughter them. Of course, he was just some rich kid so none of the pirates took him seriously. But later when he ascended to the throne, Caligula did exactly that.

Interestingly, it was an almost exact repeat of a similar event in the youth of Julius Caesar. I had to check because I thought you had confused them, but no. Same story happened to both, except Julius Caesar didn't wait to become emperor (which he never was), just until he could obtain command of a naval expedition.

There's a weird skip in the video when you say the word "probably." The captions say you're talking about not taking chances with poison, but it goes from one "probably" to the next abruptly.

Is it a problem with the captions? Those are the auto captions from Patreon and they’re never very good. Jose does the captions for YouTube and so those are typically spot on.
