Poll: Tourist Walkbys in Home Regions
Another quick poll regarding an aspect of Home Regions.
There have been some Worlds that include walkbys which are explicitly called tourists in the game's tuning. I have allowed these Sims to get through the filter up til now as that appears to be the intended purpose of the role as designed by the devs. However, they have caused some confusion in the past because a lot of them aren't dressed any differently than normal and they aren't compelled to do anything overtly "touristy", particularly ones in Mt. Komorebi, Innisgreen, and now Gibbi Point. Players sometimes see them and assume that the filter in that World isn't working properly.
Currently, Home Regions handles these walkbys like any other tourist and they can be toggled off in the settings, but this will also toggle off tourists at festivals and the like in that World, too, which seems like overkill and is probably not what the player wants. I am considering just ignoring the intention behind these roles and adding them to the list of roles to limit to local Sims, regardless of the tourist setting. This would mean you could still let tourists visit big attractions and festivals, but they wouldn't be walking down the sidewalk on a random weekday.
Please note that I have zero intention of splitting the tourist setting into something like "Major Tourists vs Minor Tourists" as this would be overly fiddly and annoying to implement and maintain.
What are your thoughts?
This poll is non-binding and not a guarantee that I will update the mod in any particular way, but it does help me gauge community sentiment and gather feedback. If you need further info or clarification to answer the poll, let me know in the comments and I can try to clear things up.

So Twistemexi toggles for occults do not work would it be possible to add these options to the home regions mod ?
I've been using this mod for a short time, so my experience is limited, but I haven’t found the tourist feature to be troublesome at all. After some thought, I actually like the idea of visitors from non-adjacent regions appearing in certain maps, especially those filled with festivals or public areas with interactive objects. However, to avoid confusion, it might be helpful to mark tourists with a red name tag above their heads or give them tourist-like behaviors, such as frequently taking photos in groups. I’m not sure how easy it would be to implement and integrate this into the current mod. Additionally, I’ve translated the strings for the new version of this mod into Traditional Chinese. I couldn’t find a way to contact you directly, and since I rarely use itch.io, I don’t have an account on this platform. So, I’m taking the liberty of sharing the translation via a Sim File Share link in this comment: http://www.simfileshare.net/download/5753471/
me too, i like when ocasionally other townies are on the sidewalk, makes it feel more immersive. i just dont want to see the same 10 townies everywhere i go 🤣
I am not sure if i voted right by picking the second option but i agree with the everyone can be at festivals and events but keep the walkby to be from the region only unless it is an international gathering hub
If the tourists aren't acting like tourists (wearing the silly outfit, taking photos), then it makes more sense to treat them like standard walkbys. FWIW, I tend to use the International Hub lot challenge on community lots in more "touristy" worlds (Mt. Komorebi, Sulani, probably now Gibbi Point too). So this way Sims who are visiting the world or who live there but are going out on the town will see more tourists, but Sims who live in that world won't run into as many tourists in their day-to-day. Just tossing this out there in case other people are looking for a tourist-light option for these types of worlds. :)
100 percent agreee with this comment. I use the international Hub the same way. If there's a spot in say Mt. Komerabi that I think would have tourist, I just drop International hub there.
I agree with the other comments that "give tourists distinctive outfits or behaviors" would be a great idea for someone to do eventually, but if that's out of scope in the short term for Home Regions then it makes sense to ignore the internal names and apply the filters based on what's visible in-game.
Are they not wearing the Tourist Situation clothes anymore? I actually liked seeing them in San Myshuno wearing those silly outfits and actually wish I saw them more often.
A lot of the older ones do, like in San Myshuno or Del Sol Valley, but the newer ones like in Innisgreen and Gibbi Point tend to just use their Everyday outfit.
whats the secret third option?
That's up to you to describe. The "I" is the person answering the poll.
Maybe you could add a tourist role to walk by tourists so it doesn't confuse anymore?
I think the best option would be to handle them like tourists IF their outfits can be adjusted to be obviously touristy. Otherwise, I think walkbys should use the filter for the region.
yes or that tourists ocassionally take pictures and look at things , anything that makes it obvious that they are a tourist
