Making early 2000s style drum and bass

It's time for another D&B production session. I'll run you through what I've been creating and how. I'll help you make it bang.
Let's rock in the vein of artists/labels like Evol Intent, Technical Itch, Hive, Metalheadz etc.

In this tutorial, I will show you what I've used to create the bass using a synth and what drumsounds and layers I have used.
I'll tell you where to get some decent breaks if you need some.
I'm discussing some production decisions and showing EQs and other processing too.

I'm also giving you the exported audio stems and the synth preset to hopefully inspire ya'll👇🏻

Hi Fanu — I've got a general question, and I simply didn't know where else to post it — I hope its's okay that I post here. I assume that the same space that you do your mastering and mixing work is also the same space that you do your creative music writing in — is that right? How do you create (mental and physical) separation between those two spaces? I also mostly work in the same space as all my music gear, and I find it VERY hard to not get distracted by the temptation of music making when I am supposed to be doing my design work. The flips side of this, is that if I'm working long hours on design projects, I hardly feel like making music in the same space (!) First world problems, maybe — but I still thought it was worth asking the question. :)

Yeah this is a great question and topic. Yes, I do all client work and my own music (and my 3D practice) in the same space. I know the temptation of dicking around with whatever during the workday; I do all my work during your regular office hours, and love the freedom. I am never able to make music after work (this at least has to do with the nature of my daily work: music stuff), so I always go out, to the gym, take a walk etc, to leave the workday behind: that is an absolute must, partly so I can make music and fun stuff, but also for other reasons, to simply "leave the workplace behind"...I often feel like the post-work day doesnt even start unless I leave and come back. The best days for music for me are Saturday and Sunday!

Phil Speiser has some GREAT plug-ins! I use the Smoother 2, the Balance 2, and The Strip 2 a LOT to clean up my mixes. Total game changers. 👍🏾

Yeah early 2000s had this sort of aggressive yet not over-pushed vibe!
