Roasting my Patreon member's mix! ๐ฎ [DNB, video]
I was asked to "roast" the mix of a songs by one of my patrons, so hey, I'm up for that!
Going thru what I'd change in the mix in my DAW.
I do this type of feedback every week.
I hope you'll get something out of this; listen to this in a decent environment.
I usually do this for Tier 2 members (I do plenty of feedback outside Patreon too).

If anyone would like to continue roasting, an amended mix that tries to fix the problems Janne pointed out, is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10u0IXlit390xwS1L1NSWfWENZtlvKiLK/view?usp=sharing
Dodgy mono came from using the wide function of Ableton utility.
Utility can only increase the amount of already existing width (=raise the existing side signal level) and tweak the ratio of mid/side. For proper mono level, I often suggest setting width to zero, then raise the gain till itโs loud enough, did then add back some width ๐๐ป
Whatโs the name of software you use to reference/compare?
Wavelab; great for montages
So this was a track I made back in 2020 and it's been a bit hilarious unpacking the session. On the amens the were big cuts at 1k! There are transient shapers EVERYWHERE. There is SO much processing all over the place. Since getting this feedback I have been mostly going through and turning things off :)
"I'm drinking tea because this track is by a British guy" ๐
When in Rome! ๐ซ
Excellent roasting and amazing tips and tricks as always ๐
Nice touching on the phaze correlometer - I find using MSED by Voxengo is great for helping me keep things in phaze with playing with the mid's and sides, seems to work for me ๐๐ป
I notice you always run mid eq cuts / boosts - I know for items where you want to keep depth you usually stick with mid cuts (ex: a dynamic EQ on a synth side chained to the vocal - you go to mid to some of the power to make room for vocal but keeps the wideness of the synth). Do you really not use stereo cuts that often, or was that just how it went in this video?
I rarely do stereo nudges โ I do either mid or side. I constantly listen to both. But Iโm a massively picky nerd who does audio for his living ๐๏ธ๐๐ป๐
