[Update] Dark Souls 2: Seamless Co-op - Mirror Knight & Covenants

Hi everyone

I wanted to make a quick update to the state of the covenant mechanics in Dark Souls II seamless co-op.

Mirror Knight Squire

A unique mechanic in Dark Souls II is the Looking Glass Knight boss fight. This is a fight where the boss is able to summon other players as adversaries to fight alongside the boss.

In the video you can see a short clip of a mirror knight boss invasion in progress. The other character is not moving because it is just me on my laptop and I am not controlling the character.

When I reverse engineered Mirror Knight invasions in the vanilla game. It was a complex mix of invasion area and red summon signs. Players who placed a red summon sign near the boss room would have a 50% chance of creating a Mirror Squire summon sign that could be summoned by the boss. Since the mechanics are pretty poorly understood by people generally, I wanted to streamline it and making it much easier to do.

Matchmaking interface upgrades

This past week I've spent some time on the YuiNexus3 matchmaking system I developed that runs the seamless co-op mods. I've added some new parameters that allow for passive matchmaking systems to run in the background.

Players can join (multiple) covenants and those covenants exist in a list that run in parallel to the normal matchmaking systems (invasions and co-op).

When you are OUTSIDE of an online session (e.g. not in an active invasion, hosting, or a phantom). Then the new system will search for sessions that match the covenants that you've joined (e.g. mirror knight, blue sentinels, etc.) and if there is an active session open then you will automatically connect to it.

This should help somewhat with activity, as you don't necessarily need to keep using an item over and over to scan for sessions.

For example, a player could be invading actively whilst in the mirror knight covenant. Whilst they are searching for invasions, the mod will also be looking for players who are fighting the Looking Glass Knight boss. If one is found, then the player will automatically be connected to the host and the mirror knight invasion will begin.

If a player has invasions turned off, then the covenant system will be disabled.

Timeframes

Please refer to the timeframes post I made last week. In an update to this - It will probably be closer to Mid-September as I am doing something in the first week of September that'll keep me occupied for a bit.

As always - thank you for your patience and a huge thank you to all of my supporters <3

Take care,

Yui
