Undead Elves & a quick question about tiers

Hi everyone,

We hope you are all having a great week. There are a couple of things we would love to talk through with you today, covering upcoming miniatures and a quick question about how we organise our tiers.

To start with, as many of you will remember, we already have a unit of undead elven spearmen available in our collection, and they can easily be used generically in just about any undead army. We have been thinking seriously about developing a complete Undead Elves range, and you will be getting the very first release next month.

The range is being planned around the army lists for Undying Dynasties in The 9th Age and Mummified Undead in One Page Rules: Age of Fantasy.

The High Elves are already a very complete range and can use a little breathing room instead of receiving additions just for the sake of it.

That brings us to our second topic: a question about our tier setup.

Currently, Adventurer, Bannerman and Crusader are our three main paths, while Sovereign includes all three. Thank you to everyone who has already commented with your favourite ranges! That said, we realized our initial wording made this sound like a poll on which single line you prefer. We already know tastes differ: some people will naturally prefer sci-fi over fantasy, while others value historical fidelity and how easily historical and fantasy miniatures work together. In fact, a combined historical and fantasy option has worked very well for us so far.

The real question is how we handle combinations for those who want two of the three main paths. If the only combined tier is Sovereign, which bundles all three, is the additional cost of taking a third path you don’t particularly want a deterrent, or is it not a significant concern?

Because of how Patreon structures tiers, offering every separate combination would mean managing eight tiers in total. That is a practical platform limitation, but it can quickly make the membership page cluttered and confusing.

So we want to ask you directly: would you prefer dedicated two-line tier combinations despite the extra complexity, or is the simpler current structure acceptable?

Please let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

I'd think they would be more mummy & emaciated undead, rather than rotting zombies. Appearances must be unkept!

Being candid, I don’t see myself wanting to upgrade to sovreign, and I don’t see the strong overlap between the fantasy/historical ranges with the sci-fi for most people. I imagine a double tier for fantasy/historical, and a triple tier for all three is all you’d need.

I like Adventurer, but sometimes get the Banner-men items. Not interested in the Crusader line as of now.

Honestly I'd love to see a proper elf line of undead; especially if they aren't themed after dark-elves/drider and take a new fresh direction!

I work on another patreon/tribe and when it came time to add a 3rd layer of choice the option there was to start a separate patreon/tribe for the 3rd option. This makes the selection a LOT simpler because now if people want that 3rd option they can choose it or not independently; rather than juggling loads of potential cross over middleground tiers.

Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion! We actually considered a separate Patreon for the sci-fi line in the past, but our website sync relies on Patreon’s official plugin and our current setup can’t handle two connected creator accounts. That plugin already gives us enough headaches whenever Patreon changes something without warning XD. Separating the lines would also mean we couldn’t offer a better combined price to those who support us by getting all three—and they’re precisely the people who deserve that discount the most.

Adventurer is my favorite, however I'd love occasionaly to combine it with Bannerman

I understand your expansion to SciFy but I will stick to fantasy/historical bouncing between one or the other from month to month.

Hello, for my part I miss the absence of a Bannerman and Adventurer landing together. I like the Adventurers level, and sometimes I would like to take both. But the science fiction one doesn't interest me at all.

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to reply and share your preferences! Reading through the comments, we realized our original question sounded like a poll asking which single range is your favourite. It is completely natural that everyone has different tastes: some of you are primarily here for sci-fi, while others focus on fantasy or value historical accuracy and how easily historical and fantasy miniatures can be used together. Offering a combined historical and fantasy option has worked very well for us up to now. The real question we are trying to resolve is about two-line combinations. If you want two of the three main paths, but the only bundle available is Sovereign (which includes all three), is having to pay for that third path you don’t particularly want a deterrent, or is it not really an important concern for you? Because of how Patreon structures tiers, covering every individual combination would mean managing eight separate tiers in total, which adds a lot of complexity. So that is what we would love to know: would you prefer dedicated two-line combinations despite the extra tier complexity, or is the simpler current structure acceptable to you?

I'd prefer a two part, but I am not sure I'd buy it. I think I'd rather buy things from the other part as I need it.

I am on the bannerman, but I dip into some of the Adventurer too. Mostly to score some new heads and or weapons. I have no interest in crusader, however I get that it is the way to go forward, and I applaud you for it. I am a darkelf at heart, so why would I kill them? Haha! I can see them being interesting and for me they can always be part of a objective or on different bases. Also, I htink Undead elfs sounds cool. So its a yes from me (even if it might not have a lot of bearing on the outcome. =)

Bannerman is definitely my favourite, but I occasionally dip into Adventurer too. I have no desire to go into the Crusader tier

But Undead Elves would be cool to use in my Oathmark games! Still following along for Dwarfs and Tor Rufane!
