Doctor Who 12x02 Edited

Yeeesss I love Sacha so much, he's proper insane as the Master! And it's so much fun to watch, and it's also a great time whenever him and Jodie are together, let them cook! lol You do need to appreciate a good Master because I always forget that you don't get one every era, 9 and 11 didn't (how did Matt Smith never face the master!?) so hope you continue to enjoy this Master! But what a great two parter to start the new series!

Bringing back the Master was a great move. While there had been some scenes of the Doctor being serious and angry at people up to this point, Jodie Whittaker otherwise had lacked the big dramatic scenes that Capaldi excelled at, however things don't get more serious for pretty much any Doctor than when either the Daleks or the Master are involved and I loved their scenes together, especially when she confronted him about all the betrayals and other things. I think she really needed that in order to show off more range and intensity. You're not the only person wondering where this master fits in and whether he's before Missy. Generally speaking Masters are treated as being in the order they appear and even with what we saw with Missy there is an complicated expanded universe explanation. As for how the character survived if he is after Missy, well it's just been long accepted that the Master can somehow come back from anything and I found it amusing when you gave your thoughts at the end of the last episode and admitted you thought we were finally done for good with the character. This isn't my favourite version of the Master by any means (though I appreciate the actor's performance). I like it more when there's clearly some remnants of their old friendship and respect between them rather than being all-out psychotic and murderous, but then again being a Time Lord regenerating it makes sense that each incarnation would be different and have differing relationships with their specific Doctor, including with how strongly this newer Doctor-Master dynamic is to Twelve and Missy. It's also interesting that he admits to doing all of that to get the Doctor's attention which can explain why the various previous incarnations like to mess about with Earth and humanity in general. Aside from that, even though Moffat is no longer in charge there was something delightfully 'timey wimey' about how the Doctor helped the companions deal with the crashing plane at the start as well as the humour with Graham in particular and his laser shoes which I knew you'd love.

Sacha Dhawan is a playful but terrifying Master and I do like he's not afraid to cosplay in each time period he travels to, he's just brilliant!
